The Holy Mountain (1973) (dir. Alejandro Jodorowsky).
I must admit,I adore his movies,I mean my all time favorite movie is Santa Sangre.
I'll talk about it a little bit,no spoilers and no big analysis so you can do it by yourself without my opinion altering yours.
Well it's a 73' arthouse film,it was produced in the early 70',which was an amazing period for artists,when movies could exploit free expression and they could use any image or sound to illustrate something,they were able to show literally anything,without the fear of legal censorship and what not.
In this movie they used socking images to convey an anti religion and anti capitalist message.Beside visual satisfaction,which makes you doubt your own persona,since it is full of grotesque images beautifully reprezented artistically and aesthetically.This movie didn't exploit it's freedom just for the sake of begin socking and kept it's integrity,thus every scene is a symbol,metaphor that sustains it's initial message:criticism against the system that values money more than morality and humanity,consumerism, against religion, ape vs God psychology,politics mocked in a really brutal way.
It's a surreal world or how Jodorowsky describes it "magic-reality". The ending is genius on so many levels,it even mocks it's viewer.
The Tarot references are quite complex,let me know if u want me to make a separate post deconstructing those.
