Success is having the freedom to decide what self-actualization means to you.

I’ve talked a great deal about the importance of failure as a learning tool, but it’s really a privilege to expect people to let us fail over and over again.

The lie that Asians have it good is so insidious that even now as I write, I'm shadowed by doubt that I didn't have it bad compared to others. But racial trauma is not a competitive sport. The problem is not that my childhood was exceptionally traumatic but that it was in fact rather typical.

Maybe we all need to doubt, rail against, and question before we can finally let go.

Whatever the work is, do it well—not for the boss but for yourself. You make the job; it doesn’t make you. Your real life is with... your family. You are not the work you do; you are the person you are.

If you play it right, your worst career move can be your best opportunity.

I got scared ALL of the time but I learned how to channel the fear into adrenaline. My coach always taught me that fear was just nerves, nerves meant you felt purpose and passion towards what you were doing, and that meant you had a reason to compete.

Finding the balance between pursuing my goals while still being open-minded about the journey is really what’s made me successful. Be open-minded to what the journey is and allow it to unfold. You have to have goals to keep moving forward but don't get so caught up in what the goal is that you miss what's in front of you.

I've learned that making a living is not the same as making a life.
