The client for my trendreport is in the coffee industry. Here's an interesting article about coffee trends for 2014. We will see people getting more interested in their coffee roast. Making your own coffee blends by DIY coffee roasting will gain popularity. 

This is a presentation by Sergey Brin, one of the co-founders of Google. This video was recorded in 2000, only 14 years ago. Amzazing to see how much technology has gone forward in the past 14 years.

I recently started writing a trendreport for a cocktail catering company. These are some inspiring summer cocktails.

The trend quality of life is about people using all kinds of apps and devices to improve their quality of life. When I heard about the trend quality of life I started seeing I partake in this trend as well. Recently I started using an app called sleep cycle. This app keeps track of the quality of my sleep cycle, and wakes me at the moment I’m in the lightest form of sleep. I use a heart rate monitor to monitor my running performance, which is linked to an app. In the near future we will be using more and more apps and devices to make life easier, better and of a higher quality.

As Carl Rohde states on his trend website Science Of The Time, the power of the social web comes forth from a couple of factors. Online we connect and unite with other people. We create online communities to organize things. This is what he calls Self-Organizing-Self-Reliance. Another factor is the fact that we share our knowledge with each other, deriving economic profit from one another. This is what he calls Sharing economy. The final factor in the power of the social web is the power of virals. People have the ability to use viral success factors and create viral videos. With this power people have the ability to reach the entire web.

The Dutch festivals Best Kept Secret and Indian Summer won't be using tokens anymore this festival summer. Instead they will use a bracelet with an embedded chip, which is chargeable with a certain amount of money. This will reduce the waiting time in line and give’s the festival organization insights on how crowded it is at the bar. The use of new technologies during festivals will change the way we experience a festival in the coming years.

On May the 15th I went to Mundial Airport. This edition of Mundial Airport was about Fair Trade and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). During this evening presented as a talk show three speakers and the host talked about Fair Trade and CSR in Tilburg. The speakers were Erik de Ridder (counselor in Tilburg), Rob van Mierlo (Director of Switch) and Yvonne Kimman(Former CSR-coordinator in Tilburg). They gave their insights form different perspectives on the Fair Trade and CSR policy in Tilburg. We learned that Tilburg already has come pretty far on both, but there’s also aspect on which Tilburg can improve. The important thing is that the municipality supports Fair Trade and CSR. With this support it’s easier for companies to switch their policies and make Tilburg a better city. Bedside’s that I learned that Fair Trade and CSR can start in a very small way. Companies and consumers don’t have to change their entire pattern to become CSR or Fair Trade. It can start with small thing. If a lot of people and companies do these small things, we’re contributing a lot at the end of the line.

Looking back on the Kunsthal and Worm we saw that recycling and reuse of products played a big role in both the exposition of World War Two and Worm. They gave the insight that sustainability and reuse is of all times. Although during the war people didn’t really have a choice, they still used their creativity to reuse products. That’s something we should still do nowadays, to make the world more sustainable.

Don't just dream, make it happen!

A visit with my family to restaurant De Kas in Amsterdam. This restaurant is located inside a greenhouse where they grow part of their vegatables and herbs. All food they serve is produced locally and organicly.

My observations: Special products (different from regular Dutch food) / Notable signing / Large packaging / A lot of the same the same sorts of products / Asian music & talking (don't know which language) / New tastes / Smells form the Eastern kitchen
