I had the idea for this sketch a few weeks ago during Tom of Finland’s birthday (May 8th), while thinking about how my fetish differs from the “standard” gay fetish: leather and D/s. 

Isn’t it? It’s always about leather, uniforms, domination and submission… it kind of makes me associate it with the concept of order. Even Tom of Finland’s aesthetic feels rigid. This isn’t criticism. I admire his work deeply. I still practically have wet dreams whenever I look through the pages of one of his books I own. It’s just an interpretation.

I love being tickled. I’m extremely ticklish, and I love that too. As a shy and introverted guy, having someone tie me up naked and force my body to react in ways I can’t control feels strangely relieving. Since I already had a foot fetish and an interest in bondage, it was only natural that I eventually ended up drawn to tickling as a fetish.

Tickling is B&SM (maybe without the “D”, but I might be wrong): it has bondage, a sadist (the tickler), and a masochist (the tickle toy or ticklee). Because of that, I couldn’t help noticing how opposite it feels from the leather community’s imagery. Uniforms function almost like armor. They speak of order. Tickling, meanwhile, is lightly clothed or completely naked, intimate, messy, and chaotic. Tickling is about losing control, handing it to another person, and allowing yourself to become defenseless.

My art style is chaotic too, full of mistakes that transform into shadows or entirely new elements. Just like this leatherman, stripped of the hard black leather boots that protected his sensitive feet, toes firmly tied, naked soles attacked mercilessly with brushes. He may still be wrapped in his leather “armor,” but he’ll sweat so much he’ll wish he weren’t wearing it at all. An organic, chaotic body convulsing in laughter inside an ordered leather cocoon.
