A: I was looking these questions over and that's an interesting one. There's an obvious answer for Lor because she was super good at PE. She was good at any kind of sports, physical stuff, and Tish was obviously going to be good at the brainy subjects. All the STEM stuff. And it was less obvious with the others. But one of the things about the show was I had been reading one of Howard Gardner's books. He's the guy who came up with the theory of multiple intelligences. His whole thing was that people can be – there's not one intelligence. You're not intelligent in just one way. There's physical intelligence, there's emotional intelligence, there's different kinds... and they're all valuable and they should all be encouraged. So, the thinking was that Lor has physical intelligence and Tino has a little more emotional intelligence. And we were playing with that. Howard Gardner's stuff was very popular with educational TV at the time because it kind of opened up the possibilities for what educational TV could be, because you could play to emotional issues and relationship issues and things and do what they called pro-social education and not have to teach facts, which television is the worst medium for getting across facts. Memorizing things does not happen well on TV. So there was always that thinking that they were all super smart in different ways. But I would imagine Tino probably would have excelled at English and probably Carver too. And Carver would have been a really good art student. [ Doug Langdale, The Weekenders creator | Source ]

The Weekenders 21st Anniversary Celebration Week — Pizza Place: “The first episode we had one theme for the Pizza Restaurant but I kept thinking of other themes and I was like “I can’t decide. Maybe the owner can’t decide either.” So he keeps changing saying “This is it. This is the one. This is the thing that’s going to make me a success.” Some of those remodels for the restaurant must have been extremely expensive. There was one episode where the Pizza Guy was depressed. He had just come up with something lame and very half-assed. I feel like that was my favorite. More because he was always so enthusiastic and there was that one time where he was like: “Eh, whatever.” Every single one of those names we had to run thorugh legal to make sure it wasn’t a place that existed. There were a lot of Pizza Place names that didn’t make it to the final cut because it was like: “Really? Someone named their Pizza Place ’Kangaroo Pizza’? The Weekenders 20th Anniversary Celebration Week: Characters – Pizza Guy The Pizza Guy is host to the kids’ favorite hangout, a local pizzeria that changes name and theme on a weekly basis. From the pirate-premised “Pizzas of the Eight” and the space-oriented “Deep Dish Nine” to the action-packed “Mission Impizzable”, the food remains the same while the décor and the Pizza Guy’s costumes (and the enthusiastic attitude) are varied to match. Jeff Bennett provides the voice of the owner of the local pizza place who usually gets a little carried away with his roles.

The Weekenders 19th Anniversary Week (Premiered on 26 February 2000) Day 5 - Tish Katsufrakis 

The Weekenders was set in Bahia Bay, a large, mostly suburban city on the Southern California coast, giving easy comparison to the Kodachrome colors of San Diego's bright green lawns, cool blue swimming pools and hot yellow sandy beaches. The show was loosely based upon Doug Langdale's upbringing in San Diego, which necessitated a road trip for the crew to the city's famed Mission Bay. "I was into Nikola Tesla at the time and I wanted to throw in a reference here and there and explain who he was. [Tesla Park] was based on Belmont Park." "There was the Museum of Man... the woman who sold handmade tortillas made her way into The Weekenders in another form. She was the Foods of the World lady, because obviously we weren't going to do the same cuisine every time."
