A couple weekends ago I participated in an auction/benefit for my friend’s theater, Action Adventure. It was a really fun night--lots of performances, some readings, and live music. I made this piece with ink and watercolor, based off of part of a story written by local Portland writer Justin Hocking.

I ended up making it into a repeat pattern, and posted it on Society6--the next day it got featured on Society 6′s home page! 

It didn’t yield any sales on it, but I did get a ton of welcome traffic to my account. I think I’m going to buy the pillow version. Link to the merch, here.

Last night I had the JOY of attending Portland Opera’s dress rehearsal/tweet night for Rake’s Progress. 

It’s  an incredible show, and an incredible set. I was completely enchanted by the props, and I now feel compelled to draw crosshatches all over everything I own. It was created by David Hockney--designed in the 70s, it feels very much of its time, but also really contemporary. 

I did a few sketches of the show — some crappy sharpie drawings that I’m really into (I need to draw with Sharpie more), plus pencil sketches. I’m also including a few photos from the show.

The show starts this Thursday, with three shows, ending on Sunday. I can’t recommend going ENOUGH; artists and musicians (score by Stravinsky), and opera fans, will love it.

and I’m listening to Jessica Lee Mayfield singing Elliott Smith and remembering Elliott Smith...recalling life as an awkward shy lonely 19-yr-old with headphones making a dark trek across the campus lawn to do the midnight shift at my college radio station.
