Derek: But you are her wife…

Derek’s phone pings

JJ over text: Can you please return her when she’s done being dramatic? 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think she just needs cuddles

The convo sparked with them seeing an Insta reel that said “Emily fell in love with Doyle” or smth similar while she was undercover.

She meets them at a local restaurant. She’s sitting at a table nearby with the team while Reader is with the twins and a few family members after some kind of sport game or recital.

Emily is sitting on the end closest when one of the twins walks up to her and shows her their placemat drawing. Jealous of the attention the other one also comes over to show theirs.

Embarrassed you rush over apologizing and trying to make them come back but momentarily freeze when Emily looks up at you with a smile saying everything is alright and she was having a good talk.

You bring the kids back to the table but keep glancing at Emily, and she’s doing the same. When out of ear shot the team starts teasing her.

Before leaving the twins run over to Emily and each give her a sticker, placing them on her hands. Emily beams and thanks them before looking at you. You share a smile before leading the kids out. Both of you slightly sad you may never see each other again.

Reader is gay asf. Always has been. However her family refuses to believe that fact and is always setting her up or at least trying with men. They still do even though she’s halfway across the country.

Reader is on the phone with family refusing a date with another random man. When asked why she responds “I don’t think JJ would like that”

JJ walks in from the gym or a run just in time to hear

“JJ is perfect. Kind, funny, handsome, fit honestly perfect” she doesn’t hear the response but your words echo in her head Handsome it hit her differently than the other compliments. The next words she hears cause a chill to run down her back and a smirk on her face “We’ve only been on a few dates but I agree, JJ would be the best boyfriend I could ever have”

The call ends but before you can relax you get surprised “boyfriend huh, that’s new” you jump and turn around seeing her leaned again the wall smirking while you stammer excuses. “Don’t get shy on me now gorgeous” slowly she walks closer “I liked what I heard.. some it seems more than others”

They keep seeing him failing so they make a bet to see if it’s just him. They both spot Reader and instantly are both 😍. What starts out as a funny bet turns into a mini war of who can win the pretty girl at the bar.

JJ and Emily use the same lines as Derek and reader responds back instead of ignoring them. At the end Derek walks over and asks Reader who she chooses. Her response “Why choose when I can have both” the interaction ends with JJ and Emily blushing, kisses to their cheeks and a new number in their phones.

Reader texts them sometime that night saying they are lucky they are cute cause their game sucked. Both make sure to point that out to Derek.

Finally they dance together what could be their last. “You were supposed to stay, I wasn’t supposed to lose you again” JJ whispers, eyes misting as they slowly spin around the dance floor.

“I was supposed to come back to you being mine, but” Emily’s eyes sweep over the backyard. “Sometimes things don’t go how we hope.” JJ watches her pause. Emily swallows and looks away.

The next words are breathed out so faint even JJ can barely hear even with their proximity. “I still love you, it’s why I can’t stay” The words hurt, but what shatters them both is having to pull away as the song fades.

They both turn JJ into Will, Emily into Derek. Over shoulders looks are exchanged, smiles given,a silent conversation had.
