Life Immitating Art
Truly only the bold who flourish from the depth of mundane taste preferring the elaborate, will appreciate the meticulous minds of creatives in the industry and the supposed art they show to the world.
Time check, 1:07 AM, itâs Easter Sunday already and Iâm still up having the most chaotic thoughts at this hour. It comes to no surprise, I was editing photos since afternoon and I decided to stop because my eyes were getting beaten-up. To tell you the truth, I was excited about this post a month ago, but as I was excruciatingly finishing the photos, I thought it was all too humorous. The whole lot canât be taken seriously. From the severed arm and head, itâs a big laugh. Soon to become a meme in a 9gag.com post.
If you are not aware - only those who follow fashion shows religiously would know - the head is supposed to be poking fun of Gucciâs FW18 runway show during Milan Fashion Week. Two models confidently wore their own heads as they galavanted through the hospital-inspired set, carrying it like a big clutch - all chic and normal. It was weirdly satisfying to watch. I thought the show was a spectacle - a fantastical mirage birthed from the mind of Alessandro, setting no boundaries between imagination and reality. He has indirectly suggested our unspoken future - deciphering designs, while consuming its literality without questions - basically life imitating art.
And we are all a suckers for it!
When asked the dubious question of what fashion is, most people in the world would say, it is art in everyday motion. A considered necessity for all, with flare of creativity weaved in the garments to enhance the daily routine of dressing-up. What is stylish or not, what looks good or bad, what is in or out, are all left to decide by the wearer of his/her clothes, just as art is - in all its forms - an open question answered by the spectators for themselves. We give meaning to what we see and feel without affirmation from the artist, because believing in our interpretations relishes our minds of the imagination.
Fashion during recent decades have abruptly risen to the game of blurring the lines of art and clothing. Designers have interpreted garments -reincarnated and reiterated - into spectacles of craftsmanship for ready-to-wear from the intricacy exclusive only for couture. They have let consumers enjoy the delight of wearing daily art pieces in the norm of the streets allowing all of untempered style to disrupt themselves and stand in awe. Truly only the bold who flourish from the depth of mundane taste preferring the elaborate, will appreciate the meticulous minds of creatives in the industry and the supposed art they show to the world. And the severed heads from Gucciâs FW 18 show only shows that nothing is impossible to someoneâs utopia, and what can be worn and what cannot, considerably, has no bearing with the art that has become of fashion.
