“Honestly, dude?” Emmy began downing his shots without bothering to remove his feet from the table. “Work is my problem, and I work in a bar of all places. Believe me, though, I wasn’t s’posed to, I swear. I could go on about that whole thing if you want me to.” He stopped, rethinking his sentence over. “Actually, I might just tell you regardless if you want to know or not,” he snickered. “But, I mean, my family’s also kind of a problem, and just life in general, I dunno man. I’m grateful that I lack responsibilities ‘cause otherwise, I’d never have the time to be here. But I think we might be in the same boat with the whole ‘pleasure’ aspect of it all.”
"Nothing wrong with coming home and enjoying your time." Oliver responded to the other as he looked at him and smiled softly. "I don't blame for wanting to lack responsibilities. And life seems to have been kicking everyone's ass lately so I don't doubt it. It's just been awful and whatnot." He mentioned to the other individual as he smiled a bit. "If you need to bitch then I definitely have an open ear."
she took a look at his overall image, the way his hair looked and framed his face. it had good shape to it, and she could see herself doing a lot of different things that would change up his look. but she could easily do what he was asking, as bleaching hair wasn't nearly as difficult as some people made it seem. "that can be arranged," she said with a polite nod. "if you want, i could show you my portfolio? that way you can get a good idea of what i'm capable of, as well as comparisons of what i've done for other people with your hair type," she offered.
"Well I know it can be arranged. I just wanted to see if it's something that you would recommend doing to my hair? I know that not a lot of stylist would recommend it and I wasn't sure with my hair honestly." He mentioned to the blonde herself as she smiled softly. "I would love to see honestly what you have done for other people with my hair type. That would be nice to see and maybe I'll even be inspired by something that you've done that I wouldn't have thought of." Oliver replied to her and then shrugged. "That is, if you have time for this right now. If you don't then I don't blame you and we can plan another time to meet."
It was a nice day to read, but it seemed like everyone wanted to enjoy the nice weather. There wasn't many places to sit at when Nijiko arrived at the park. The picnic tables were occupied for what seemed to be a birthday party. When she walked around to try and find a free spot to sit, the only place that seemed like she could sit down at was an open half bench. Nijiko did her best not to disturb the man from his reading as she sat down next to him, but noticed that she failed her goal when he greeted her. A small smile pressed onto her lips as she engaged in the conversation. "Weather's nice," she said, pulling out her own book from her bag. "I didn't expect it to be overrun with kids, though, but I've already committed to being here."
"Yeah, I think it's going to be overran with kids for the foreseeable future. It's that time of year where every event is taking part outside and trust me, I am not excited for it." He chuckled a bit. "I feel you on that. I am here against my own will because I'm pretty sure that if I didn't come then I never would've heard the end of it from the kiddos." Matthew explained to Nijiko as she had responded to his conversation opener. "Are you someone who normally likes to sit in silence when they read?" He asked, curiously.
as she finished up her consultation, she noticed that he'd waited for her. which was fine, of course; she'd welcomed him to do so. she said goodbye to the client and then stepped in front of him once again, sitting down near him and giving him her full attention. "so. what can i do for you, or better yet, what do you have in mind? if you've already got an idea of what you'd like to get done, that would be rather helpful in the process of me figuring out what to do," she explained, noting his rather short hair. he still had plenty to work her magic with, though.
"Well honestly.. I really want to change all of this. I don't want to change anything about the cut really as I like the sides buzzed and the top trimmed a bit, but I feel like I want to bleach it or or something. Do you think it's worth it or would even look good? I guess I'm just worried about how it'll look as well as remaining a little plain. I wasn't sure if you think that it would look good or not but I can tell just watching you that you're honest about it." He explained to her.

"HMM," she hummed dramatically, circling the other and feigned deep thought, tapping her chin with a painted finger. "most definitely, though i think you could get a guy to come home with you in most things. how are things going with that other guy? not feeling it?"
"Well thank you! I mean, I think you're right too. I think that I could get someone to come home with me in anything. I seem to have a charming personality if I must say so myself." He smirked. "It's been okay. We've been fooling around but I'm not sure if there is something real there. I mean it's nice to have fun but I am looking for something more serious right now." He spoke honestly to his friend. "How about you? Anyone special in your life?"
"my gig?" julius blinked in confusion before realizing what the woman was asking. having a major life event constantly weighing on him seemed to make things take a little longer to click for some reason. "right. i'm not a professional, just a guy who likes to draw." he turned the small sketchbook so she could see the lines he was trying to capture of the sculpture they stood in front of. "but i do visit often."
he had seen her around the gallery before actually, but julius knew not everyone liked to be perceived and made the effort to always avoid saying things like that in case the other person became uncomfortable. "what about you?" the woman had more of a business vibe than an artsy one but it never hurt to ask. people could be surprising. "also, what do you think about this piece anyway?" he pointed to the sculpture she'd been blocking before. "it's interesting to look at, but i have no idea what it is," julius admitted. "either it's abstract or i'm losing my artistic eye."
"Yeah gig.. As in like what you do." She smiled as she looked at him and then smiled when he responded. "Well how long have you been drawing?" She asked him. As the book was flipped towards her, she took a look at the sketch that he was working on and she nodded. "Seems good so far. Have you ever tried to take it to a professional level?" Madelena asked curiously.
"Oh me? I work as a lawyer I've been doing it for quite some time now. But something about art has always had a soft spot in my heart and I like to come and appreciate the art that others put so much work into." She responded honestly to the man. "I don't think you're losing your artistic eye at all, unless I am also losing mine." She laughed. "But honestly, I'm not sure exactly what to make of it so I think it's best that we go with that it's abstract. Then we can feel better about ourselves."
status: 2/5, open! location: evergreen gallery when: friday night
julius often found himself drawn to the local museum. hell, he even had a yearly membership just for the free admission and gallery talks from the artists. maybe it was because he'd always wanted to try his hand at painting despite the stubborn fear of failure always keeping him from actually doing so. it was nice to see the works of people who dared to try. dared to be judged by pointing fingers and tilted heads. today in particular, julius brought his hardly-used pocket sketchbook and was trying to get the silhouette of a sculpture when another form blocked his view.
"i can draw you if you want," he started without looking up as a way to politely get their attention so they could move, "but it'll cost you a dollar."
Art was always something that Madelena appreciated so throughout her time in Magnolia, she was a constant visitor to the museum so that she could appreciate the local artists. She would make big donations as well because she knew it was the right thing to do. She had her purse over her shoulder as she was walking through the different exhibits. She stopped to appreciate a piece that she hadn't seen recently and she then realized that she was blocking someone who was clearly trying to also see the art that she was currently looking at.
Madelena let out a small laugh, "Trust me, you don't want to do that. Honestly, I can just move out of the way and you don't have to worry about all that." She explained to the gentleman. "Are you a professional or are you getting your feet wet? Like what's your gig?" She asked him, wanting to know more.

Starter for: Oliver & Jesse (@jessefms) Location: Coffee Shop
Oliver has been in Magnolia his entire life and ever since he started liking coffee, which was at the age of thirteen, this was the coffee shop that he would come to. He would drink hot coffee on the colder days, but normally he stuck with an iced coffee, until cold brew became a thing and that's what he was always going after.
The line was really long today, but he didn't have anywhere to be since it was the mid morning and he was a bartender who worked primarily at night at Lyon's Den. He yawned a bit and stretched since he just came from the gym, showered of course. He didn't like to go out anywhere sweaty. As he was waiting, he felt someone fall into him which probably came from someone else and he looked at the individual. "Hey, you alright? Some people can just be really rude sometimes and not realize what they're doing or where they're going."

cezanne was so engrossed in her consultation that she had barely noticed the man tuning in, turning in surprise at his voice and looking up at him. "oh, absolutely," she answered with her signature smile. she fished a card off of the table in front of her, handing it over to him before speaking once again. "if you have time to wait around, i'd be happy to talk to you today. otherwise you can call that number anytime and we can book something," she explained.
"Yeah, I actually don't have much going on today. Everything that I planned on doing can all be pushed back so that would be awesome if you had the time!" He replied to the woman. His hairdresser came over and performed the simple haircut that he was looking for. After he paid, he paid, tipped them and then plopped himself down back out in the waiting spot. People eyed him up for sitting around after just getting a haircut but he didn't really bother with them.
julius needed nothing more than some space to think. he'd been trying for the past month to stay distracted with anything from socializing more than usual, to completely isolating with new hobbies. neither of the two extremes worked. he just felt worse once he remembered what he was trying to avoid. now at the park, he looked over at the sound of a voice and smiled slightly in greeting. "hello. no, not really... i was halfway to the library and decided to pull over and get some fresh air." a little conversation couldn't hurt, right? "what're you reading? something old or something new?"
"Nothing wrong with stopping halfway through and getting some air. It's nice out today so it's the perfect kind of day to get some fresh air and really enjoy it. I feel like it's not enjoyed enough sometimes." Matthew replied to the gentleman who had decided to take him up on his offer to engage in conversation. "Reading the new Hunger Games book. I haven't had a lot of time to get around to it. It's something I read when I was in my twenties and I like that they are continuing the story on. Or well, telling the story about previous games." He responded. "I'm probably a little too old for it now, but ya know." He shrugged his shoulders.
who: emmy & anyone! (0/3)
where: lyon’s den
when: a late night in may 2025
Realistically speaking, Emmy should not have been in a different bar on a night when he should have definitely been working (by that it felt like he was cheating on The Pulse) but he had the night off, and it would have been awkward to walk into his workplace as a customer. That’s exactly why he walked into Lyon’s Den intending to get hammered to forget about any responsibilities he had (spoiler alert: there were not many, so he was fine, really.) It was loud in the establishment—as expected—but he could always switch his hearing aid off if he wanted or needed to.
He practically threw himself atop a stool, swerving around in it one time (he was a child at heart, unfortunately) before insolently putting his crossed ankles atop the counter and ordering several shots of tequila to get himself through the night. As for getting home…that would be a later problem. That tied into the ‘responsibilities which he very much lacked’ department.
“Hey,” he called to someone who had sat beside him, whether by choice or coincidentally, he felt bad nonetheless. “Do you come here a lot to avoid your problems too? If so, that’s great, and if not, you ought to know it’s never too late to start.”
Being a bartender at Lyon's Den, Oliver was always seeing attractive men come and go throughout the night as some were here looking for a relaxing moment after a long day's work or even looking to just find someone that they could bring home that night for dessert. He had learned a lot about the type of people in this world, but it also provided him a chance to flirt with guys and he couldn't get in too much trouble because they usually forgot about it the net morning and yes, he happened to go home with some of them at the end of the night.
Luckily though, he was done with his shift and he didn't think the same way the other did. He didn't mind staying at the bar that he worked at so that he could get a few drinks for free and potentially meet some guys here and there. "I come here a lot, not sure if it's to avoid my problems. Sometimes it's business and sometimes it's pleasure. I guess I can't complain too much. How about you?"
"i hear what you're saying," cezanne said, flipping through a portfolio laid out on the salon's coffee table. consultations were one of her favorite things to do throughout the day, as it gave her a chance to show off her skills and help other people in the process. that was always a win-win, in her book. "you want this specific color for your dye job and some blonder highlights. that can certainly be arranged, but have you thought about how you'd like to style it? because that can go a long way in making your new color work for you," she pointed out, completely in her element in the salon. she'd always been one who believed the customer was always right, but she wasn't going to let them steer themselves wrong, either. “maybe a trim, or a big chop off the end would be fun!”
for: anyone ( 0 / 5 ) from: cezanne setting: coif couture salon
Oliver was in the salon today for just a simple haircut. He was sat in the chair as he awaited for his stylist to get things ready to go so that they could get this done he heard the woman working next to him and offering suggestions to the person that she was working on. Oliver then waited for her to finish her sentence before he spoke up. "Excuse me, but I'd love to talk to you about my hair whenever you get some time if you have a card or something or some free time." Clearly she knew what she was talking about and he wanted her advice.
"Hey," she replied distractedly as she looked at her phone, not answering the question immediately. Ishita had received a message on Instagram from a bigger influencer in LA, only to disappointingly find out it was a fake profile. She sighed and set her cell down on her lap before finally addressing the question. "Not really, just a jog." Turning her head to the man, she smiled. "Not a lot of fun you can have a park anyway. You don't look like you're running a marathon, though." Ish's eyes fell on the book and her brows raised slightly in surprise. "You're out here reading? What're you reading? Must be great if you didn't even get the audiobook."
"Oh yeah, no. I'm definitely not running a marathon at all. I don't know if I could do that at this point in my life." He said. "It's enough work just chasing after the children which is a while thing to begin with." He mentioned to her as he looked at her for a moment and then he chuckled at her next comment. "Well I don't do audiobooks really. I like to have the actual book in my hand and I don't like hard covers. I like just your traditional soft cover book where I can hold it in my hand."

Starter for: Matthew & Open Location: Park
Matthew had the children at the park for a birthday party. The parents of the part told him that they would keep an eye on all of the children so the parents could leave and do whatever they needed. However, Matthew was just a little bit worried about anything being able to happen so he was sitting on a bench and readina book while he listened to what was going on. He noticed someone sitting down next to him and he looked up and then looked to the person to his right. "Hi. What's brings you here? Anything fun?"
who: open ( assumed connections are fine! they could be shopping together, bump into each other, anything ) where: a clothing store in magnolia
THE BLONDE HELD A BUNDLE OF CLOTHES IN HER ARMS, maneuvering her way towards the fitting rooms to try on the items she selected. she approached one of the stalls, reaching a hand towards the handle when the door suddenly opened. fifi jumped, startled by the sudden movement, but couldn’t help look the person inside up and down. “wow! that looks gorgeous on you!”
"Thanks babes. I told you that I was going to be trying this on." He said to the blonde that he agreed to come shopping with. He didn't need to be spending more money, but he figured if he spent money on nicer and more revealing clothes then it would earn him more tips in the end. With using girl math, it just seemed to make the most sense to Oliver "Do you think I can get a guy to come home with me in it?"
