I’m posting this because I’m in a tough spot and could really use some support.

For the past 10 years, I’ve been on welfare, doing my best to survive and slowly rebuild my life. I’m finally working and taking real steps toward stability, but I don’t have savings yet, given that I’m still rebuilding from the ground up.

Recently, I discovered mold in my apartment. It wasn’t something I could safely ignore particularly when I have asthma, and I was forced to move unexpectedly. Because of how tight the rental market is, the only place I could secure on short notice costs more than double what I was paying before.

To make things harder, I work from home, and the move caused me to miss work and lose income during a critical time. Between the sudden move, higher rent, and lost wages, I’ve fallen short on next month’s rent and I don’t have a financial cushion to fall back on.

I’m not asking lightly. I’m doing everything I can to stay afloat and keep moving forward, but right now I truly need help to get through this moment. Any contribution, no matter how small, would help me cover rent and stabilize my situation while I get back on track.

Emergency Move Due to Mold – I Need Help to Stay Safe I never imagined I’d be asking for help like this, but I’m facing an emergency move and I truly can’t do it alone.

For the past 7 months, my apartment ceiling has been leaking. Despite repeated attempts to address it, the problem continued, and I’ve now discovered mold.

I am asthmatic, and living in these conditions has become unsafe for my health. After seeing the mold, my landlord agreed to let me break my lease early, which I’m grateful for, but that also means I must move within the next two weeks.

Unfortunately, safe housing in my area is extremely expensive. My new rent is more than double what I was paying before. Every dollar I had went toward keeping a roof over my head, and I now have nothing left to cover moving costs. I’m asking for help so I can:

Move out of a mold-contaminated home Protect my health and breathing

Cover urgent moving expenses

To cut a long story very short, I've been dealing with an ongoing leak issue since mid-July. At the time of posting, it is now November 13th. Every time it rains, my ceiling fan leaks. I have not used my ceiling fan in months as a result, and over the last month ive started to see significant damage to the ceiling surrounding area of the ceiling fan, and I kept getting told it was "fine" even though it looks to me like it might cave in.

Yesterday, it started to leak, AGAIN, and I finally got fed up and threatened to call the rental board if it wasn't properly fixed. Landlord has now promised to come in and open up the ceiling and find the source of the leak.

It is beginning to look more and more like I may need to move for my own safety if this is not seen to. I have been back at work for less than a year after being on welfare for the past 8 years due to chronic illness and mental illness. I have asthma, so any mould damage will severely affect me. I am just barely back on my feet after years of poverty, and my current income is full-time minimum wage is barely enough to get by on my current rent, and the average rent for a studio in my area can vary from 900$CAD to over 2500$CAD.
