◆ THE CAST ◆
(RO - Romantic Options. Only the reporter and superhero are fixed as women. Though that might change in the future.)
The Detective is the pebble in your shoe, the sound to your footsteps, the Sherlock to your Lupin. They have been chasing you for as long as you have been active. A do-gooder addicted to mysteries, and possibly you?
The Fence is your long time partner in crime. Kept at arm's length, as all criminal friends should be. They are extremely resourceful and well connected. You couldn't do your job without them, but maybe you could without all their blatant dishonest flirting.
The Rival is exactly as they sound like. A phantom thief much like yourself, donning a domino mask and something of a musketeer's outfit. You have squabbled over the same marks dozen upon dozens of times, but this time it's personal.
The Reporter has been making you front line news ever since your first high profile heist. With a slouched demeanor, a goofy writing style, and an ill-fitting appearance, you can't help but think they are closer than you realize.
The Super-Hero is exactly the type of do-gooder you have always desperately tried to avoid. Your biggest tool to do so? Speed and the element of surprise. You don't have powers to go toe to toe with someone like this. So why the hell are they even bothering with you instead of Kaijus or mad scientists?
The Barista serves at a cafe you have started to frequent. Friendly and calm, they couldn't be more different than you. Yet... maybe that is exactly what you need right now?
(Otherss)
The Brother was once close to you and the abused runt of the litter. Now they are a billionaire technocrat seemingly without scruples. You know where this ends. Will you do something or let them succumb to their bad decisions?
The Legend is last century's most notorious thief. Though they are locked behind bars, they prove instrumental for your first heist... which went all kinds of wrong.

Not in dire straits or anything, but could use some help making some ends meet. Due to currency conversion for me 5 bucks is already pretty big.
Anyone that does, feel free to drop an ask or something. It's not like you need to pay for me to consider suggestions, but might as well, eh?
Also if we reach the goal I could drop an early version of a steamy scene with the detective I mentioned previously. Just for funsies, haha.
Maybe I should consider making a patreon? But if I did it would be only per update, I don't think I can work regularly enough on the game for me to feel good about taking money monthly.
Omg the 4th wall break when i chose to send the donations to you caught me off guard😭😭😭😭
The donator's asking for socially awkward sexy fedora detective and punchable in the gut freaky fence steamy smoky smut, or they'd probably break into your house and steal all of your toilet papers. Oh the horror🥀🥀🥀 /j
Also I love the sibling angst so much, i just want to see my MC straight up crying throwing up and blow their nose on Jamie tailored suit out of spite. You don't talk like that to your supportive and kind older sibling!!!!!
I felt the muses touch me when I wrote that 4th wall break lol. It almost didn't exist, but I thought I should think about a couple more things to use the money for, then that came and I felt pretty smug not going to lie haha.
Here's the thing there's actually already an almost done smut scene with the detective in the game. It just isn't accessible because I decided to change my approach to how the detective's story would unfold. At first it was supposed to be flashbacks, but then I thought it would be way better paced if cooperating with them was something you were actively doing during the game.
I'm glad you liked the angst, and yeah Jaimie's not being very nice! I will put wiping your nose on brother's suit on my list of future choices.
hey, would you mind adding a more discreet variant for the "drinks booze" option? i headcanon my MC as a tenuously reformed party girl who relies on the thrill of thievery (among other things, probably) to stay clean but has so far failed to kick her drinking habit (not that she's tried very hard; getting weaned off the party drugs in the first place was rather involuntary, given the abject poverty and all). i don't think she would bat an eye at drinking in public normally but i feel like she would care enough about the barista's opinion to feel lowkey ashamed of being seen that way by them
Oooh, I like that! I will add a subsequent option to the booze option to cover more nuanced relationships with it.
i wish i'd know the rival was red-themed earlier. i called myself the Red Raven after grasping at straws for an original thief name and now i'm attached. how can we be proper rivals if we're both the same color. everyone will think we're a couple engaging in weird foreplay. doom, despair, devastation... on the bright side i chose Carmen as my fake name so now i headcanon that choice as my MC's private joke at f!Carmine's expense. what's the joke? idk but my MC thinks it's very funny
Yeah, you two meeting is like a power ranger reunion. Just far too much red. But hey, if you're chasing Carmine romantically that foreplay guess isn't that far off.
But seriously, now I have to implement some reactivity for using Carmine's names as your fake identity lol. I love that!

to clarify, being poly is only for flavor text and there will be no actual poly routes? i feel like there's potential for Du Marco/Go-Girl (and Remy/anyone), tho personally Carmine/Go-Girl is top of my wishlist; that said, 100% understand if you want to keep the routes simple esp for an IF that's already mechanically complex, tho i suggest saying so IG to avoid setting incorrect expectations. (also i clocked what you're doing with Anne-Marie on sight my gasts flabber at your audacity i love it)
My bad, the patch notes were worded confusingly. What I meant about it only being flavor text is about the reason why I placed that option in the prologue instead of waiting to place it when it came up organically in the story. The earlier I have that variable, the earlier I can place poly flavor text.
Does that make more sense?
It's not that there won't be options, of course there will, it's that for now this early in the game, it's just there for flavor.
I'm glad so many people are getting a kick out of Ann-Marie, it's exactly what I wanted!
The gala was so fun! Meeting the brother was as sad as I hoped it would be. Poor thing, but also quite scary because what the hell was is up with his new invention? And Carmine! Can't wait to see what is up with her.
Also! I love the writing and humour so much!
I just wanna give Go-Gal hug.
I'm doing a weird thing with Deux which I hope will land well. The dots for what Carmine's thing is are all there already, so I hope the connection will feel really satisfying.
Thank you so much for the compliments! Go-Gal hugs will be on the way.
Hey guys, so apparently the segment where you steal Remy's invitation was bugged. The game would skip the actual effect due to a faulty subroutine.
It's fixed now! But if you don't want to play everything again just to see a couple paragraphs, I'll put the text that should happen in that section down below.
BIG SPOILERS BELOW, so be careful everyone else.
Your hand goes to ${fhis}, holding it by the back. One step takes you closer, and with the distraction of your touch and eyes, your other hand then does the magic. Going to the fuller of ${fhis} pockets.
You might have a habit of scanning everyone like marks. It might not be healthy, but it sure is useful. It’s simple to fish out the invitation, and take it with a secret flourish as you step away. Remy is distracted, lost in the moment. A moment broken only when you finally avert your eyes.
“$!{fenceNickname}. We all play by two games. The one we all know, which you and I subvert, and the one behind it. That which binds and strangles our entire existence. Best to… stay away. Cheat where you can, stack your chips. But don’t forget that the house always wins.”
With that, Remy’s hand falls to the wayside, and ${pcHeVerb} gone. Disappearing into the crowd, leaving you to ponder ${fhis} words.
You peer down at Remy's invitation. The world of the gala darkens at your periphery. Suddenly, it's just you and that little dark and gold rectangle. Remy has been a long-time partner.
*if (CLOSE WITH REMY)
But more than that… @{(fGender = 3) they have|${fhe} has} somehow become a friend@{fenceInterest maybe even more that that.|}. And your life doesn't afford you many of those. Your heart feels ready to crawl out of you through your throat. Maybe… maybe you're overthinking this? Maybe all the signs you've caught on have been nothing but ghosts conjured by your weary mind. A mind weary of being beset by dangers. A mind constantly in alert.
*end if
You slowly open the card.
“To the esteemed Remy Dubois: a personal invitation to Gabrielle Rousseau’s Gala.”
Personal.
You pocket the invite. Can't do this right now. The implications are too big to consider. You'll get distracted from the heist. Make a mistake. Ruin the little you still have. Focus. Nothing's changed.
OMG, I just blew through the demo a little bit ago, and I was completely riveted the entire time. Seriously, during that Gala heist, I had my jaw drop multiple times. The pacing is really well done! I enjoyed the free rein nature of having activity options with our limited time (which, do the timers stack? For example, if you got like seven timers in this heist and only used a couple, would the extra transfer? Maybe not, from a narrative perspective, but thought I would ask). The story is so compelling, and I think I am most dying to know why my brother was treating my with such contempt when (at least in my playthrough) I was really loving and protective. Distance makes the heart grow bitter, I guess? Sibling angst just hits different. Who's know what I did that hurt my rival thief, and aww, Go-Gal, I feel so bad! Also...the catacombs. Spooky. Seriously, I was so sad when I saw that this updated a couple days ago since it would mean a long wait, but I'm so excited!
Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear the pacing felt good and the surprises were effective!
The timers do not stack between heists. That way there's an added layer of strategy on the part of the player where they have to figure out whether it's the appropriate moment to use their resources or not. This reminds me that I need to place a hint about that in the "Case the Joint" event for the gala many thanks!
As a little sibling, sibling angst hits me hard too, glad to see it worked! Here's hoping all the reveals for the characters will land too!
But I think the jealousy can be arranged! I can see it happening in a planned scene but it will depend how it pans out when I get there, since it's a ways off.

I really enjoyed the update! Reaaally wondering what the hell Carmine thinks my MC did, she was so confused the whole time. Also the meeting with Jaimie going like that was extra painful given my MC tried to be the best older sibling possible.
Also Remy??? Very curious what their deal is.
Also the detective has two hearts over their relationship meter. Does that mean anything specific or can any other character get those?
...also 'enbitch' is actually really funny
You can actually find out what Carmine's deal is in this update depending on how your heist goes! It's a reward for a difficult thing to pull off, but IMO the most common way to end the heist is by far more fun and has more content. Still, I'll tell you how to get it if you're interested.
Hearing Jaimie's scene was painful nourishes me I'm glad it felt that way! I think I want to still add a little bit more flavor text depending on some choices, but it should remain the same.
The hearts are counters for every time you flirted with an RO. Currently they don't do anything beside showing how thirsty you are lol. Two is not a lot! You gotta pump those numbers up!
I'm glad enbitch was funny. Coming up with that resulted in a weird mix of pride and embarrassment at the wordplay.
Spoilers below for how to learn Carmine's secret.
Here's how to learn Carmine's secret. First, you don't have to do this, but the context helps. Go investigate Lenoir and chose the "as expected?" choice.
During the gala you have to get the "Easy Breezy Ending" as I like to call it. It requires you to go completely undetected. Don't lie to get into the gala. Don't talk to anyone ever. Don't dance with the rival. Gain entrance to the meeting while avoiding the detective. And do not use the PA system. Instead of Go-Gal at the catacombs you will see Carmine, and therefore gain insight into their inner world.
See why I think the usual way is better? You can't have any fun to get this, but I had to put it in because it just made sense. But I want you all to do the daring kind of dumb things in this game. I want you to have that Disco Elysium mindset. Fail upwards!
Let me start by saying, I messed up on a previous post y'all and I'm so sorry. The update is something like 73k words, not 120 or whatever nonsense I said. Apparently, my dumbass accidentally used the character count for some of the documents pertaining to the update, which inflated the count massively. My bad!
Demo Link for your convenience
Still it's the biggest update yet! Here are the patch notes:
IMPORTANT CHANGES
Changed Delay system into Time system. It works the same, but you lose time points instead of gaining delays. This change was made to more easily implement bonuses for free roam activities. The tutorial has changed accordingly.
Added the gameplay effects of certain downtime activities, like those of the Sol & Lune. They, for example, net you an extra ⌛️ for the heist. The Free Roam stat screen will helpfully display your gained bonus instead of the Time like during heists.
Mandatory heist activities can now be done at any time and require no days to be spent and instead award you extra days depending on how you complete them. This will avoid certain problematic edge cases my previous idea of making you lose days depending on how you complete these.
Rewrote and changed the “case the joint” event for the first heist to better reflect what happens there.
Cleaned up the text of the event to steal the gala outfit. I sent an extremely messy draft last time. So sorry.
Added polyamory choice when first deciding MC’s orientation. Put it there for some flavor text I want to add.
Additions:
Added the entire first heist. A whopping near 60k words.
Added a new item to Remy's store.
During one of the Free Roam days you might get a newspaper with a new development.
Minor Changes
Adjusted values of decisions. Decisions are either liked or loved. They used to increase stats by 5 and 10, now it's 4 and 8. Might decrease futher, depending on how long the game ends up being.
The hourglass is now used in the new Time system, therefore clocks now indicate heist specific temporary items.
Added the bought items to the heist prep list.
Fixed a continuity error during the prologue when Go-Gal knocks your gas mask when you didn't put one on.
Fixed some formatting mistakes and typos on past content.
Fixed Remy's first greeting awkwardly having their free roam greeting at the end.
This is great and you're great and I'm excited for the rival thief.
I don't know a lot about coding, but with how you are gamifying this story like it's Persona, you make it look easy and I'm obssessed.
🙏😫
Aww, thank you so much!
Nothing too complex is being done in terms of coding. The most complicated thing that was done is just how the delay icons are displayed funnily enough. Also the way the dreams are chosen weirdly enough. That part is actually a bit messy, but don't tell anyone. It works it's just not well optimized.
The trick of making it more gamey is more just about how I'm approaching writing the story. I think.

Mc could steal a super expensive and valuable item (e.g. Stradivarius violin) as a challenge and then send it back to the poor worried owner xD Wonder what the headlines would say about it :D
Although this would mostly make sense for MCs only wants to have fun and doesn't give a shit about money.
Thanks for bringing this up! I think there's a perfect spot for something like this on the first heist!
Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi was sold for half a billion dollars in 2017. It is the most expensive painting ever sold. The Mona Lisa has far more prestige, so experts estimate it is worth about double that.
The first thing you do in my game where you play as a thief is to steal the Mona Lisa, or that world's equivalent cleverly named "Monet Lissandro". I know, how do I come up with this stuff?
Kind of hard to setup a game with monetary stakes when the first thing you do should set you up for life, right?
So what did I do? I dropped the price, made it worth less than the Mona Lisa. Then justified that because it's a hot item, half it's value is spent just trying to sell the damn thing.
There's a reason why the Louvre guys went for the jewels and instead of selling them as is, they just melted them.
The last thing I did, I feel was very clever. Because the full transaction would take a while to happen, I set it up so that the player would only receive a small advance, while the full amount would only be received later (hopefully once the game is over or maybe at a later point in the story).
With all that. The challenge of managing your money to buy tools and advantages is kept, and the prestige of the act and painting is also kept.
That said, there is another problem. The main antagonist of the game is a billionaire. Jeff Bezos, cursed be his name, donated 200 million to charities over the course of last year.
I bring this up to say this: I can't get the player to steal anything important from the ultra rich without coming up with a convoluted reason to keep the monetary challenge of the game, because the ultra rich are so unfathomably rich, stealing anything from them would guarantee you an eternal cushy life.
In short, money is bullshit, and so are billionaires.
The first heist is progressing nicely and might be out sooner than you think. Cheers!
