The lock made a click as you turned the old worn key. Twisting the handle and entering the apartment the smell of fresh rain fills the air. You mentally applauded yourself for managing to finish up your patrol before the ever so popular Gotham rain settled in.
Throwing your weapons on the coffee table, you threw yourself onto the plush couch that rested just underneath the large open window that was the only source of light in the apartment. You sigh as you lean your head against the arm rest, your eyes slowly fluttering shut.
“Don’t you have your own couch to sleep on?” Selina’s voice startled you awake. She made her way out of her room and over to the small kitchen and began making herself a late night sandwich. Two cats sauntered their way out of the bed room and over to you. Dangling your hand off the couch, you let the fluffy white cat sniff your fingers. He began to purr and rub his face against your hand, trying to encourage you to pet him. Your hand softly rubs the fluff ball’s chin and you watch the other less fluffy, lanky black cat sniff the mess of weapons lying on the coffee table in front of you.
“You mean the moldy old couch that sits in the basement of my insane step father’s place?” You rubbed your eyes and yawned, the exhaustion from tonights events making a home in the dark circles under your eyes.
“ Ew right, forgot about him.” A slight sour look forms on her face as she recalls the day she encountered your stepfather. you watched the white fluffy cat as he made his way onto the windowsill behind you, his soft purring mixed with the sounds of the rain.
“So how was patrol?” Selina asked as she made her way out of the kitchen with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
“It was okay i guess. Only got shot at twice, didn’t rain either so that’s a bonus.”
“Sounds like a pretty good night to me, not to mention you seem to have obtained a new jacket! Didn’t think brown leather was your style.” Her eye brow raises as she points a slice of her sandwich towards the jacket you were wearing. You rolled your eyes at her, she knew it was Jason’s jacket. Selina always teased you about your relationship with him and how it resembled her relationship with Bruce. You of corse always denied all accusations of having feelings for him. Even if the accusations were true.
“He let me borrow it because it was cold out.” You state firmly.
“Your suit is built with a thermal lining, you don’t need a jacket Y/n” Her voice oozed with curiosity and playfulness.
“It was extra cold tonight.” Your attempt at defending the worn jacket amused Selina. She chuckled to herself and began to make her way back into her room. Just before entering, she stops and faces you with a smirk.
“Y/n.” You switch your gaze from the fluffy cat back to Selina.
“Next time hun, instead of taking just the jacket. Take the whole package.” She winks at you and takes a bite of her sandwich.
“We are just friends! Not even friends- business partners! We. Are. Business. Partners!” You groan as the black haired woman chuckles and waves you off closing her door shortly after. You sigh and focus your attention back to the white fluffy cat and begin petting him again.
“Jason and I are just business partners, thats all.” You whisper to the blue eyed pompom. The cat lets out a small meow as it gets up and jumps down from the windowsill. You cant help but laugh at the feeling of judgement from the walking cotton ball and lay back onto the couch. Your eyes slowly fluttering shut once more.
