tbh i don't think carol actually is that selfish, or at least not uniquely selfish among the cast of pluribus. like it's an especially bizarre opinion when koumba exists. koumba is aware that the trajectory the planet is currently on means that all of the beautiful women he's fucking are going to starve to death, but he doesn't really give a shit bc changing things would mean he wouldn't get to fuck them anymore. if the hive dissolves, he'd have to go back to being an ordinary person instead of living like a king, and he doesn't want to do that. which is the same reason he won't join the hive. he likes being in charge and having his every desire catered to. I don't hate koumba - i think he's a very honest depiction of what a lot of ppl would be tempted to do in his place. but he is incredibly selfish
