JASPER LOCKLEAR + HALLOWEEN 2026

“Well that’s good to know because I was getting a very judgemental look off that man over there.” Isabelle answered with a little laugh as she motioned with her head in the direction of the middle aged man. “Well there is this charity event going on and I said I would help out with the food. I didn’t have the time to make it myself so I thought that this would be the next best thing” She explained.

Jasper looked over to where the other was gesturing and caught the man in question staring at the two of them in the least subtle way possible which caused him to snort. “Hasn’t he got something better to do with his day, like I don’t know, yelling at some kids to get off his lawn.” Jasper looked at the other, eyes slightly wide, “You bought all of this because you couldn’t make anything? That’s-.. well you’re a better person than me, let’s just leave it at that.”

“So Nova really takes after her mother,” Lyra joked when he suggested that maybe the cats enjoyed having their fur filled with sparkles. “Maybe all that time studying in the muggle world has gotten to you,” she teased, although it was nice to be able to handle things without magic. It couldn’t be the answer to everything. “Oh stop it you,” the blonde giggled softly at the kiss. She took a moment to consider Jasper’s idea, her eyes lighting up when she realized it had the potential to work in their favor. “Let’s try it! They haven’t responded well to everything else and I think you might’ve just cracked it. I’ll get their favorite treats from the pantry.”

“I guess she does and Bowie has also picked up your habits. It’s like everyone in this family is a big fan of glitter apart from me.” He chuckled, though he made it out like he hated the stuff more then he actually did. But it did have a habit of getting everywhere. “Maybe it has. Maybe I need to find my wizard roots again.” Jasper nodded, pulling one of the cat toys he had tried to use earlier towards him as he moved to sit on the floor with his back against the wall, waiting for Lyra to return and eyeing up the two felines who seemed to be making sure they were keeping their distance from him.

“So I know it probably looks as though I can eat a lot of food– and whilst that is not untrue, I can assure you that this is not all for me.” Isabelle defended as she precariously managed to pick up the box and bags of hot food. 

“I wasn’t going to judge, I was more looking because you seem to be struggling a lot and I was going to ask if you wanted some help.” Jasper pointed out to the other, offering his hands to the other before she potentially dropped everything on the pavement. “But now I’m curious as to where you’re taking all of this?”

Caleb caught himself within a hair of bumping into someone, excusing himself before furrowing his brow slightly as he could swear he recognized the man. Once he’d placed where he recognized him from, he chuckled lightly, “Hey, long time no see.” Caleb patted him lightly in the shoulder in greeting. “Having luck avoiding awkward conversations in queues lately I hope?”

Jasper looked up when he felt someone pat him on the shoulder, letting out a small chuckle when he saw who it was. “Well if it it’s my lifelong best friend and brother.” He couldn’t help but tease. “Not going to lie to you, there was a instance when I walked up to the coffee shop, saw the same woman was in there and just turned around. Looks like I need to find a new regular haunt.”

“Two is much harder to wrestle than one,” she huffed, her hair tied back haphazardly with a ribbon as she got back up from diving after one of the sparkling cats. “Do you think we can try and scoop them up with magic? Levitate them into the bath or something? If only they’d stay still for long enough,” she thought out loud, trying to reach again for the other only to be bested by the feline.

“Something tells me this is how they want to live their life now and I would be all for it except for the fact they’d get glitter everywhere.” Jasper explained to the other, rolling the sleeve that had fallen down his arm again up. “I never thought of magic, why did I never think of magic.” He grumbled to himself, having been at this a lot longer than the other. “This is why you’re the smartest out of the two of us.” He complimented, pressing a small kiss to her cheek. “Maybe if we just sit on the ground with some toys, treats and catnip, lure them in with a false sense of security?”

“I can’t say I blame you. Some people just… they’re a lot. They talk a lot. Me included.” Though Mason didn’t sound embarrassed about that fact at all. “We play a lot but you know, tend to be influenced by some of the old rock bands. Here… I should have some on my phone, I mean if you want to listen to it that is anyway. We’ve played a quite a few of the events around here. And have people said that to you before?”

“People generally do tend to be a lot, I agree. It’s why I stuck to myself mostly at school, but I guess my girlfriend is making me that little bit more sociable.” Jasper admitted, it also helped when the people he talked to had things in common with him, like music. “Sure, I’ll take a listen. Is it okay if I hold the phone, I can hear the music better through the vibrations coming from the speakers.” He explained to the other. “Disgruntled people who don’t like to hear music in public places, despite there being instruments everywhere, yeah.”

LYRA: That /does/ sound like a /cat/astrophe omg 😱

LYRA: How do they keep getting into the glitter, I really swear I tried to seal it up to avoid a part two 😭

LYRA: Have you tried bribing them with food?

JASPER: I'm starting to think they're doing it on purpose and they like looking like moving mirrorballs. And I guess I can't blame them, they do look pretty magical right now, but it also means I too am covered in glitter.

JASPER: Are you enjoying yourself? Covered in sweat, beer and other liquids as jocks go wild over a ball sport?

JASPER: I'm so glad you didn't try and drag me along with you.

JASPER: We have a bit of a cat calamity over here tonight.

JASPER: A /cat/astrophe if you will.

JASPER: Seems both of our felines are lovers of arts and craft and I have been chasing their sparkle covered arses around the manor for 30 minutes now.

JASPER: Still haven't caught them, they have the upper hand.

Iris had to laugh at that, giving the male a gentle slap to the arm for that comment. “If you know anything about me by now Jasper, it is that I always rise to a challenge so if needs be I will spell it out to you with quidditch players in the sky. Anything to make sure I get my point across.” And she was sure he knew she could be plenty annoying if she wanted to be. “It’s a good job I like you..”

“And if you know anything about me is that I tend not to give a crap a lot of the time, so have it spelled out in the sky, have howlers mailed to me, you still won’t get your satisfaction.” He pointed out to the other, his smirk only growing. “Well I am a very likable person, be grateful that I willingly choose to spend my time with you, most aren’t so lucky.”

Alice furrowed her brow, “I didn’t r-realise studying mus-music required so much… paperwork. Is that m-mostly sheet music or am I really cl-clueless?” She asked, half-joking.

Jasper watched the others lips closely, picking up on what she was saying and taking a few moments before he could reply to her, “Oh-... well, yeah. I’m wanting to mostly go in to composition so a lot of it is paperwork. So, you’d be right in the fact that this is probably about ninety percent of sheet music.”

“Should I not be sitting here or something?” Maggie looked around the café, a slight confused look on her face. “The table was clear when I sat down with my coffee. I don’t think you can reserve tables here.”

Jasper looked up from his book, looking around at the patrons of the cafe and then back to the other with a shrug. “I believe not, maybe the people who are glaring got here before you and are cursing you out for taking one of the last free tables.” He told the other, “Or maybe they hold a grudge against you that you don’t know about.”

Mason’s eyebrows raised at that because he would have had no idea if it hadn’t been pointed out to him. “And I may be one of the few people you meet that will make you glad you have the ability to turn me down.” He laughed softly. “And I’m both I guess. I have a band with my best friend and I play the bass guitar generally.” He stated with a shrug of his shoulders as if it wasn’t really that big of a deal. “I can never resist coming over when I hear good music.”

Jasper couldn’t help but chuckle at the others words, “Trust me, I’ve met plenty of people who I’ve tuned out before you.” And it’s not like he was lying, sometimes he’d simply take his aid out knowing that the majority of people he came across wouldn’t know BSL and therefore he could runaway from a conversation that was unwanted by him. “A band, huh? That’s cool, what kind of things do you guy’s play?” He couldn’t help but ask, always having wanted to be in a band for himself but not believing it would have been possible with his hearing loss. “Well at least you thought it was good, better then coming over here to tell me to pack this shit up.”

“I’m always going to be worried about you. You’re an extension of me at this point,” she insisted with a soft laugh, squeezing his hand back. “His mindset is so medieval,” Lyra shook her head in disapproval when Jasper reminded her of the events at Scorpius’ wedding. “But yeah, he doesn’t need to know your blood status. It’s none of his business really,” she insisted, not ready to let a single thing pull her apart from Jasper. Although her father would surely find something ‘wrong’ with Jasper just because it would make him feel better about himself. “Yeah I uh– I think you hit the nail on the head with that one,” Lyra nodded briefly, sounding a bit defeated. “It’s silly, isn’t it? That I still care so much about what he thinks of me? That I still want to do things that’ll make him proud? Having to stomach a Malfoy being sorted into Hufflepuff was already hard enough for him,” she sighed, remembering how disappointed in her Draco had been back then. “We won’t let him,” Lyra replied with more determination than before, squeezing Jasper’s hand again. All of a sudden the massive doors in the front hall began to open, sunlight creeping in as a silhouette figure began to approach them. “Daddy– hi! I’m glad you could make it.”

“That makes sense, I feel the same way about you. I think I’d feel rather lost without you, given you have my heart and all.” He replied smoothly, taking advantage of the other squeezing his hand to bring her own to his mouth to press a kiss to the back of it. “It’s not silly, you’re valid to feel that way and you shouldn’t undermine your own emotions. He’s your father at the end of the day and I understand why you’d want him to be proud, even if you and him aren’t on the best of terms.” Jasper had thought many times about what it would be like to come face to face with Draco Malfoy and a big part of him told himself that he was simply thinking of the worst when he thought about how intimidating the man would be. But all those stories he heard, everything that he thought was true, the man stood there with piercing eyes and back straight and simply radiated a power he had only seen in very few people who had some very questionable values. In a lot of way he couldn’t believe that such a cold looking man could have raised the radiant sun that was Lyra. “Mr Malfoy, hello- it’s good to finally meet you.” He smiled, trying to look strong as he held out his hand in greeting, knowing that him looking weak would not look good in the others eyes.

“I mean, it depends on what you consider extremely stupid.” Iris answered, a slight smirk playing over her lips. “But I mean, if you don’t trust me by now then please, go ahead and continue on with your venture but be aware I will be saying I told you so very vocally and very cheerfully when you immediately regret it, Jas.”

“I value myself as being a rather intelligent person, despite what you might think.” Jasper told the other, eyeing her up for a moment before assessing the situation again in front of him and wondering what it was that the other was seeing that he wasn’t. “You say vocally as though that makes a difference to me.” He signed at her with a smirk, “You can tell me you told me so all you want, doesn’t mean I have to choose to hear it.”
