Sunday Strip Watchmen
Itâs pretty much a very short parody of Watchmen with news paper comic characters instead of superheroes. Somewhat inspired by Bartkira, I made this sampling of pages both as a joke and to see what it would look like if newspaper characters got the same dark treatment superheroes did in the 80s. There was no copy/pasting in any of these pages, I redrew them by looking intimately at my copy of Watchmen and pictures of each character I was using.

me drowning in a lake while my friend, 11th century french rabbi and prolific scriptural commentator Schlomo "Rashi" Yitzchaki (zy"a) stands nearby: help im drowing help me rashi
Schlomo "Rashi" Yitzchaki (zy"a): "drowing" is likely a scribal error for "drowning." "im drow[n]ing" is to say: my lungs have become filled with water, and i am struggling to breathe. "help" once followed by "help me" a second time: the first [help] is directed to the Holy One, blessed be He, and means: "may He help us by swiftly delivering the World to Come;" the second (i.e., "help me") is to invoke direct assistance in this world, spoken as if to a personal friend. the meaning of "rashi" here is unclear.
me drowning in a lake while my friend, 8th century daoist scholar-physician and prolific medical classic commentator Wang Bing stands nearby: help im drowing help me wang bing
Wang Bing: "help" is "assist." "im drowing" is to say: the normal position of the Lung, belonging to metal, is above and before water (i.e., "metal is the mother of water."). for metal to be below water means "the child insults his mother." illness follows.
17th century scholar-physician and prolific medical classic commentator Zhang Zhicong, reading this post 900 years later: wang bing is incorrect. "drowing" here is an error for "dowsing," which means "to find hidden water by means of a [dowsing] branch."
Madame Helena Blavatsky: "It being so clear that the sages of east and west agree, how can we ignore the spiritual nature of this most exhalted drowning woman? The ignorant will say this image of the drowning woman is but a common metaphor for grace and wisdom. This may be so, but it ignores the whole of the truth. Through careful esoteric analysis we can discover a fragment, the hidden philosophy beneath the drowning woman: she was going to Atlantis."

Jack Kirby's collage work
An interesting demonstration of how the human brain works.
But also something of a lesson regarding perception, and the unreliability of subjective perspective versus objective reality.
You can be extremely certain about how you perceive the world, your "lived experience," that which you "feel it in my heart." But that doesn't mean it's actually true. And it doesn't mean we have to endorse it, or ignore or outright deny objective reality.
That's a "you" thing, not a "we" thing.
shout out to the sound designer who was like "I know exactly what kind of music to whip out for this one!"
I've never actually seen this before, and WOW is that cool!
Wha-
Promethea.
The sun is rising. Know yourself. Know that you are life, that you are mind. That you are the awareness of the universe. You are its dearest child.
Space and time exploded into being. Every atom, every moment, all at once. The explosionâs still going onâŠwe are all sparks of its ecstatic, blazing consciousness. And we are rare. And we are precious. And we are all one thing. And all conceivable places, are in truth, one thing.
And all of time is but a single, endless moment.

What if I did that
I'm just getting into Lancer now, and I love it. It's both overwhelming and simple. Like these memes.

Stuart Immonen 1998: Superman Villains | Secret Files & Origins (Inker: José Marzån, Jr.)
Much as in Action Comics #741, Immonen used his position as writer to give himself the opportunity to provide stylistic breaks from traditional superhero artwork. This time around, with the conceit of Luthor telling his child the story of Supermanâs adversaries, he gives us some gorgeous Winsor McCay-influenced pages. Ambitious and delicious!
Stuart Immonen is inside your skull, poking your brain with a well sharpened pencil.
