as the door creaked open, she swiveled her head and caught sight of a young woman striding in. adriana's lips curled into a welcoming smile as she greeted the blonde. "well, hello there," she chimed. "just to be clear, i'm not here for that. i'm on a mission to wrap up a project. and lucky me, with the place deserted, it's the perfect time to focus," she gestured towards the unoccupied tables surrounding them, underscoring her point. with a steaming cup of coffee in hand, she relished the opportunity to get some work done in peace. "gotta do what you gotta do. how about you? burning the midnight oil as well?"

As Jasmine noticed Adriana, she glanced over the study materials that surrounded her on the table. It was quite the setup for getting serious work done, and Jasmine found it rather impressive. "Ah, looks like you are very prepared for said mission. It's even inspirational." She smiled, running a hand through her hair. "Something like that." Jasmine simply shrugged so as not to give it too much thought. "I guess I've just had one of those restless nights." She furrowed her brows slightly, wandering just how much to expand. "Maybe a slight case of insomnia, but nothing I haven't dealt with before."

"No, I just got off work.” He said with a smile, “I came for a snack actually. Which sandwich do you think I should get?" He asked as he contemplated the options displayed behind the glass counter. The turkey and avocado sandwich had always been his favorite, but maybe it was time to try something new.

Jasmine perked up, feeling glad to see somebody she knew in the otherwise empty café. At his question, she eyed the different choices that the place had to offer. "Personally, I love the croissant sandwich. It's not the healthiest, but it's so worth it." She reached for a pastry to accompany the coffee she was ordering, opting for one of their large chocolate chip cookies. The Early Gull was certainly a comfort food spot for her frequented on many occasions. Already she felt slightly better being somewhere other than home for a bit. For some reason, she'd had a somewhat overactive mind tonight, and she knew that getting away would help provide her some relief. Jasmine was glad to have run into Kai, but she also wondered if he might be pretty exhausted by this time of night. "I'm guessing it was quite a long day for you, then?"

lottie had never kept regular hours. she used to stay up until sunlight streamed through her blinds, poring over textbooks and sat prep materials with a manic desire to be the smartest person in the room. and now. now, she was usually up all night making bad decisions with questionable people. getting coffee after five was hardly the worst thing she'd done all week. "sleep is for the dead," lottie hummed as she dropped a few wrinkly dollars into the tip jar, "and while i've been accused of being a witch more than once, zombie is not my bag."

"You’re right…" Jasmine shrugged casually, grateful for the change in perspective. “Zombie life is not appealing at all.” After placing her order with the barista, Jasmine sighed contently, growing excited for her beverage. She certainly felt like she could combat lack of sleep with strong caffeination, or perhaps it was just the distraction that helped. Either way, it wasn’t realistically a habit she could quit anytime soon, but that didn’t bother her. “Fortunately, we have caffeine at our fingertips, which is such a life saver.”
