riveting spine-chilling breathtaking incredible showstopping spectacular
On a scale of 1 to rip your heart out, how much did this goodbye hurt?
Because I’m still not over what this did to my heart 🥺🥺
hmmm im not seeing it talked about but Tian Xiwei is known to be small but a bit muscular. Just look up 田曦薇肌肉 and you'll get some pretty funny and impressive pics/videos of her picking up guys or doing tasks. There's even some of her carrying half a pig.
also not to be gay but holy her arms her back
I'm not too suprised she managed to carry him on her back and I think?? There were reuters of her carrying him that people talked about when it was filmed.
I mean 😹 she even got wang hedi in a princess carry. Multiple examples of this with various costars.
She makes a GREAT Fan Changyu. Small but strong butcher 🔪 her crying scenes are also so emotional and good. Glad more ppl recognize her. It's funny ppl are like I watch for the men and it's like against her? HER?
The main poster for The Prisoner of Beauty Viki was using is being added to the list of "Posters suggesting happy fun times in pastel when the drama is very much not that" In order, The Prisoner of Beauty, Love Like the Galaxy, and Story of Kunning Palace
I don't even think the male lead of LLTG ever made that particular expression in the entire 56 episode run time. Why is he being like, wistfully hopeful? Anyway, the more representative images:
I’m dying at Kunning Palace looking like a lighthearted romantic comedy with cooking shenanigans 😆

till the end of the moon as text posts (6/?)
TTEOTM becomes really funny when you consider it from the perspective of all the guards, servants, doctors, generals, and advisors watching Tantai Jin absolutely crash out over the woman who by all appearances tried to murder him THRICE
Aesthetically speaking, everything about this drama was flawless.
And I do mean everything
Because these two were serving in very single scene

How to befriend your brother: Lessons from an orchid fairy
DFQC costumes master post
Some of the costumes in this show are doing a lot more than the basic functions of reflecting the characters' tribal allegiance, social roles and status, or current activity. Especially Dongfang Qingcang's costumes are doing a lot more than this: they're suggesting or reinforcing ideas about the character's state of mind. I loved this about it, I noticed it a lot, and I want to talk about it.
Someone put a lot of work into imagining, designing, and making these clothes, and since I can't read Mandarin I don't know who those people are, but I want to point out some parts of their work I appreciated.
Assumptions: in this genre the clothes aren't supposed to behave like real clothing - the whole point of them is to be artistic drapery, to carry meaning and feeling and beauty. Any resemblance to real clothes of any location or period is purely an artistic reference. Their effects in telling the story rely on the viewer's own experience and whatever associations her mind draws from the visual elements provided. What I draw from them with my Western eye, informed by Western art history (including its relationship with Chinese arts and crafts made for export), is going to miss all the things that rely on Chinese art history and culture for specific meanings and associations. On the other hand, I'm going to see parallels, and maybe make accidental or wrong associations, that might be interesting and entertaining.
These are the costumes I want to write about. So this is my listing post, and then I'll edit these and make them links as I go along. The list might change.
The hunting dress
The badass look, and varations on black and gold
The boots! (I want them)
The honey-coloured gown (wow)
The déshabillé
Human Realm outfits: the Black Satin (with diversions to the National Gallery, the Rijksmuseum and the Prado) and the Moon Gowns.
The chrysalis gown
The fire gown
The mourning suit (OMG!)
The crowns
I might do some other characters as well, but maybe not yet. Feel free to get there first!
I'm on my fourth Woman Married a Loser and Tried Her Best but Died for It and Now She's Back drama (Marry My Husband, Blossom, The Double, Perfect Marriage Revenge) and I love it, I love it, I love it. Because you can feel the feminine rage radiating from the screen. These women swallowed the lie that they were the problem in their marriage. They forgave and excused and bent over backwards just like society told them to and it didn't work. It was never going to work. In the end, nothing they did mattered and their precious lives were still seen as disposable. And now they are back and they are furious and it's great.
I've been thinking about my taste in historical c-dramas and realized I always lean toward political/palace intrigue over xanxia or wuxia fantasy dramas. So, without further ado, my list of favorite historical c-dramas (with a happy ending) that ground the romance in political power struggles.
1. The Double
Cast: Wang Xing Yue, Wu Jin Yan
Synopsis: After being framed for adultery by her husband and his family, Xue Fang Fei takes on the identity of the deceased daughter of a high-ranking court official in order to clear her family's name and take revenge on the people who wronged her.
This drama is flawless. Both the FL and the ML are two of my favorite characters of all time. They're both smart, funny, and badass in their own way. Their relationship is one of mutual respect and admiration, and the way they fight for and support one another is beautiful and romantic. The villains are fleshed out and great at making you hate everything about them while also understanding their motivations. Wang Xingyue gives an INCREDIBLE performance as Duke Su, and while I think Wu Jin Yan is too old to believably play a teenager, she is a fantastic actress who does a complicated character justice. I really have nothing negative to say about this drama. It's perfect to me.
I’ve seen two of these; I’m so excited to add the rest to my “to watch” list!
Mr and Mrs Moon Supreme.
Pleased to meet you.
