Hidden River Films and Mural Arts Philadelphia, in partnership with PAFA, present the premiere screening of the documentary film Art of Survival. The film captures the energy and spirit of the Kensington Storefront, an open arts studio that for three years offered a cup of coffee, a snack, and a chance to make art—in the heart of Philadelphia’s drug crisis. Art of Survival brings viewers into the unique community that flourished at the Storefront and provides a hopeful contrast to the bleak media portrayals of Kensington and its many challenges.

Flax:Cultivated for Linen from james wasserman on Vimeo.
Heidi Barr of Kitchen Garden Series is inspired to bring back linen production to one of the first regions in America where flax and the textile linen created from it were first brought over to the Americas. She enlisted the help of a local grower Emma Cunniff in Pottstown, PA to grow a test crop and explore the process of local linen production from the ground up. This video captures the planting and harvest during the summer of 2020.
