1. If you can buy a portable charger, then get one asap!
2.Incubate your eggs (which you get from pokestops). 2km is 1~.24 miles (for us Americans)
3. curveballs (done by shaking your phone until its shiny) give 10xp
4. The game uses the same portals from Ingress for pokestops and gyms. I’m not sure how they differentiate. But if you want to go exploring you can pull up ingress maps.
> Churches and landmarks are generally gyms and pokestops
> Historical areas are most likely the best area to find them both.
5. You can send pokemon you have multiples of back to the professor (select the pokemon in your menu and scroll all the way down). He will give you 1 candy for each, which means you can get 4 candies per extra pokemon caught (3 for catching it). If the game freezes and says there is an error, just back out of the menu one step, it should be gone anyway.
6. on the bottom right of your screen there is a small box. Open it and you will see pokemon (or their shadows if you haven’t caught them) with feet underneath. The higher and more to the top left they are the closer you are. 3 feet is the maximum that will show up. The less feet they have the closer you are. One pokefoot is about 1 radius of your circle (that we have found. I hope to do actual tests tomorrow) >Whatculture believes that 3 feet is around 100 meters (328 ft for my US buddies).
>Whenever you tap the nearby bar and tap on a pokemon you want to find, he/she/it will occupy the lower right ‘nearby bar’.
7. You don’t have to climb upstairs in a building, just go side to side. The pokemon are not based on altitude.
8. 20mph still registers you as walking. Please catch pokemon responsibly especially when in cars. We don’t need more accidents. Turn AR off for this. Highways are the least likely to spawn anything.
9. Apparently the blades of grass simply shows where the area is more likely to spawn things. This is according to whatculture
10. 'Battery Saver Mode’ actually refers to the screen turning itself off if you turn your phone upside down in your pocket -taken from whatculture article
>You can only use AR mode and Battery Saver mode if you have a gyroscope on your phone. (Same rules for using a virtual reality headset)
11. Nothing tracks when the app is closed.
12. There is no difference between powering you pokemon before or after evolution. Their bar doesn’t change positions between evolving. Their max cp is based on your level (the more you level the higher you can get your pokemon)
12. If you don’t want the starter pokemon (must be done when you first start) and walk away from them, you will be given the choice to catch a pikachu as your starter.
13. Lures and incense stack, so you can use them to get more pokemon.
