Djurdjevic the Serbian volleyball player is suspended for two matches. After making racial gestures during the match aganst Thailand. Which was pulling her eyelids down to act like an asian. Athletes continue to speak out about violence towards Asian people, highlighting the role that social media plays in illuminating these incidents. Which made what Djurdjevic actions more terrible than it already is. The player apologized  to the whole Thailand team and said she meant no respect. As screenshots of the incident were widely shared on social media, thousands signed a petition calling for greater accountability. In addition to the suspension, the independent body, which is responsible for imposing disciplinary sanctions within FIVB competitions, fined Serbia's volleyball federation the equivalent of $22,000.

I found this article significant because there have been a lot of anti-Asian racist things going on. Leading to Asians getting killed, raped , made fun of, etc. It stood out to make because it was the headline of CNN. Also it was a Serbia who made the gesture. Which lets me know nay kind of race can be racist toward the other. According to the panel, the FIVB will donate the money to a cause dedicated to tackling discriminatory behavior and/or to fund educational programs on cultural sensitivity. Like I mentioned in the previous paragraph the Serbia’s volleyball federation was fined 22,000 for the actions of the team player Djurdjevic. Which I think is fair because even though she apologized the Thailand have to live with that. Which can make them inecure or feel beneath others. 

What made her do the gesture without thinking she’ll  be disciplined?

  Comerica Park is opening back up again. Instead of 8,000 fan dotting the arena. There will be 40,000 plus people filling it up. Not only will the Detroit Tigers Stadium be openong back up. If your currently not vaccinated. For this week's games, anyone unvaccinated can get a shot and score two free tickets to the game. Along with a $10 Meijer gift card which can help with anything. The pop-up vaccine clinic, which will be held at the Fox Theatre, will be administering shots three hours before the start of each game this week.

I chose this article and thought it was very significant. Since the city have been mostly closed since March last year. The beauty if going from 8,000 people back to 40,000 is amazing. Also being able to get protected and receive two free game tickets. Sounds like a good deal since not everybody is vaccinated. But I’m pretty sure everybody want too get free tickets. 

I wonder will be fill everyone of the 40,000 seats their first game abck without restrictions?

This article talks about how José Escobedo had a rough high school experience. Sophmore year his team made it to the second round of their athletic conference’s in Los Angeles soccer playoffs in 2019. Jose experienced a bad headache during the playoffs and couldn’t participate. His team end up going 2-0 without him but end up making a comeback. Jose felt bad and took the blame for the loss. He thought his next season of soccer was going to be epic. Instead of playing his Junior year he focused on school and his AP classes. SO he expected to be back on the field for senior year. So he can dominate the field and be a team player. Which didn’t go so well due to COVID. He went from going to school and playing sports to joining school off an computer screen. He still made the best out of it by spendng family time with hsi dad. By staying out of trouble and getting into construction. Instead of going to the park and joining gangs like his friends.

I chose this article because the title caught my eye. Many seniors not only Jose but all over the world didn’t have a traditional senior year. Due to COVID which made it harder on them and other grades. Sports is the way out for many hispanics/blacks which also made it hard. Since sports were cancelled so we can stay safe. I also wanted to hear from other people’s point of view. Everybody story is different, some people had a great senior year. While others had an rough senior year. It’s significant because it talks about how most Seniors feel. When looking back on their high school experience it’a go be a sad memory. Since they couldn’t experience the lunch table talks, drama, fights, etc.

This article is mainly about how Asians are treated badly in today’s society. Sherry Cola who is actually an actress, stand up comedian, and actor explained her side. When she came to America she felt like an outcast. She thought Hollywood wasn’t for her but only for Americans. Since she saw  little to no Asian representation. It brainwashed her into believing that her name could never be in lights. She explained the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes is in many ways a direct result of the scarce and inaccurate portrayals of us in television and film. For decades, Asians been the punchline and the stereotype. She thinks they simply weren't taken seriously outside of playing a nail technician or a mathlete.

I chose this article because it’s been the trending topic. Also I wanted to know her story about the first hand experiences she witnessed. Asians were the blame for Covid-19 and they are very different. Like their looks from Americans so the would get treated badly. As she said “truth is, when I was younger, I was laughing along without even realizing how harmful the long-term effect was going to be. It's why the mean Caucasian boy in the playground would slant his eyes to belittle me. Cut to 2021, and my people are still hearing "You don't belong here," and "Go back to your country." Which in my opinion is very sad and they don’t deserve this.

The man who was seen putting his feet up on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s desk during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot had an outburst in federal court Thursday over his continued detainment. He believed things were unfair because he was serving more time. Others who were released earlier than him did more worst in his opinion. McBride added that the lack of in-person communication due to coronavirus restrictions placed on the hearing prevented his ability to explain to Barnett the court proceedings. I chose this article because it was a recap of what happened. Also, it gives us more details on what happened after the fact they destroyed the Capital. This story is significant because it’s a history moment. Also he deserve the time because he chose to not act like an adult. If  the capitol got raged by colored people. Than the man or woman probably wont be alive. Since the meeting was virtual and he had an out burst. I wonder if the court meeting was in person would there be commotion?    This article inspired me just off the title. Which made me want to read more and even watch the video. A black woman named, Gretta owns an Outback Steakhouse in Roseville. It all started off with just working part-time, so she can provide. Gretta was nineteen when she first started working there and had a newborn daughter. She was also in college at the time and had doubts she couldn’t do it. The amazing news she shares on Facebook went viral. She started receiving gifts, edible arrangements, cards, etc. about her success. I feel like this article is important to society because it’s Black History Month. Most people don’t believe in black people because of their color. Gretta showed and told us anything is possible. "You don’t have to make it in the history books in order to make Black history," she said. That really touched me because it’s black people out here making history every day. In the books, it’s all about our struggles and rarely wins. This is why this article is very significant because she the first black woman to own the title. February is Black History month, also when Gretta gained her title.

I chose this article, because it relates to things that’s going on in today’s society. Trump labeled covid the “China Virus” which made people hate Asians. This events affect race and how Asian Americans feel. There have been attacks even murder against Asian. Just because of who they are and their the “cause” of Covid. Which was technically not the case. Elderly, adults, and children are being attacked. The increase in hate incidents is a particular concern in urban areas. In my opinion this need to be heard all over the world. Asians/American Asians are scared to even come outside. I wonder if Whites were to be the cause of Covid would they get hate as well?

The vaccine has been out for a short amount of time.

Students at Renaissance High School are hesitant about taking the Covid-19 Vaccine. Freshman, sophmores, junior, and seniors all have different perspectives. Face-to-face learning seems to be better for students. Nevertheless, the vaccine doesn’t feel safe to take. 

“I personally am not comfortable with taking the vaccine”, said sophmore McKenzie Hawkins. 

There should been more tests on the vaccine. Before they start giving it to people. The vaccine is still new and it shouldn’t be given out because of that, said Hawkins. There are plenty of mixed emotions about the vaccine. 

“It hasn’t really been studied in depth”, said junior, Teara Britt. 

Seniors feel like they’re running out of time. Soon they’re going to graduate and the vaccine isn’t their main concern. Which aligns with face-to-face learning. But with freshman they feel like it’s a must. 

“If i have to take the vaccine to go back to face-to-face learning then I will”, said freshman, Tyler Wright.

Most of the students want to go back to face-to-face learning. But doesn’t want to take the vaccine. Which makes them feel like, just to go back to face-to-face learning they have to get the vaccine. 

“I don’t want to take the vaccine because I don’t know a lot about it and I’m about to graduate”, said senior, Janiya Frank-Cain.

All the students have similar answers. Which explains why face-to-face learning don’t seem to be going on any time soon.

I chose this article because it talks about poverty. Poverty in America is an all time high. Biden is pushing for the minimum wage to be to be raised to at least $15. He thinks this will lift millions of Americans out of poverty. If the plan moves he says Our plan will reduce poverty in the Black community by one third, reduce poverty in the Hispanic community by almost 40%. This article is important to society because there are a lot of unemployed and underpaid Americans. There is also a huge gap in between the rich and poor. Including with Biden plan he also wants to get stimilus checks out. Biden stressed that no person working 40 plus hours should be in poverty. I agree with this statement because your exchanging your time for low pay. Also interest rates are low which makes debt more manageable. If the minimum rage goes up to $ 15 will prices at fast food, doctor visits, and dental go up?
