âItâs just one of manyâ Delphine replied raising a brow. She noted his tone but moved on for it. She liked it when people were surprised by her. â And I like the way you think when it comes to the money thing, but why not have it be a good drink for free when it seems like you need it.â
âThat obvious at the moment, am I? And here I thought I was wearing my mask well.â he scoffed at himself for the most part while willingly following the Davenport who he didnât really know but knew a lot about, as did anyone else with half a fucking brain. âAlright then, take me to the free drinks and weâll see what we can get ourselves into tonight.â
dcniellax:
âI have a feeling that your idea of decent beer and shitty music isnât the same as me. Although thereâs a bar not far from here that has that whole grumpy gills feel to it with busty women as waitresses and old-time rock playing,â she said before letting her smile radiate her lips.
âIs that the type of guy I look like?â a rhetorical question for the most part as he reached into his pocket and pulled out the flask he had been keeping on his person for most of the night. âDonât tell me youâre into that fruity ale and pop songs.â
jonahrhodes:
âThis place isnât satisfying enough for your highness?â Jonah questioned. Heâd be fine with leaving, but he wanted to be rude.Â
âAh, was wondering when your smart arsed self was going to say something just for the sake of saying something.â
risingblaze:
Blaze had to hold back a scoff listening to his reply. âSounds depressing.â He commented before finally leading the way. A normal person would have shown at least a little bit of concern. But then, Blaze had broken a long time ago, enough to shut out any kind of sign that he actually gave a shit about other peoples problems. Everyone had problems, sure, Blaze just didnât want to be the one to hear them.
His pain was his own and not something he talked about, sober or not, it just wasnât how he was and so with the otherâs words, Jackson just shrugged in response because it was neither here nor there; and he just wanted to drink. âYou any good at pool?â

âI havenât been really out drinking since an incident that happened a few months back.â She chuckled softly though what happened still followed her after everything. âDo you know if any new places opened recently? Maybe we could check them out.â
âGreat time to jump back into things then.â Jack added as they walked and usually, the old Jackson would have asked about this incident that was so flippantly brought up; but he couldnât bare the burdens of others anymore, even those he cared about. âUh, seeing as Iâve just gotten back --- nope. Might just have to be an old favorite then.â
the-arthur-vale:
âSo I am frequently told, but the artists I like are called classic for a reason,â Arthur replied with a light chuckle, purposefully not talking about what Arthur was sure was on both their minds. âI wasnât,â He joked. Despite his jovial manner there was clearly something missing from his usual cheerful self. âCome on, itâs just around the corner.â Â
âThatâs what you say.â Jackson jested without the tone sounding all that whimsical as it should have, but he was trying his best. It was difficult in this moment to not let the flood gates open, to not ask about Devon and how they were all doing --- they had always been connected but now they were connected in a whole new way that felt like a huge hole was ripping through each of them he was sure. âGreat. --- Saw Addison yesterday; she wasnât all too pleased to see me.â
addisonxvale:
Addison had been awake for about two hours now. And she was still processing her parentsâ words; the new reality theyâd ushered into her life within a matter of seconds. Sheâd just sat there, staring as they explained what had happened. What theyâd had to do. Replaced the bones. And as much as she could see it broke their hearts to have to tell her, to have to see her go through this, it devastated Addison in a way she couldnât explain. It felt like instead of cutting of her leg, theyâd cut off an entire part of herself. And she didnât have a say. The ache of the blow settled in her chest, ballooning to point of feeling too big for her rib cage and somehow crushing it at the same time in a way only Devonâs death had before. It hurt to the point of numbing her all over, even more than she already was. It didnât matter if she couldnât feel her legs, Kels would fix that, but the rest? She was stuck. And Addison couldnât take that. Not now. Trapped in a hospital with nowhere to go and her parentsâ words on loop. Replaced the bones. Replaced the bones. Replaced. The. Bones.Â
But maybe her lack of mobility was for the best because the moment she heard his voice, the Vale froze. It was almost immediate, the shift from a stunned silence to a quiet anger few every truly saw. One heâd never been on the receiving end of until now. Addison mightâve still been groggy from the anesthesia but not groggy enough to ignore thisâ her breathing slowing picking up as her heart rate did, chest rising and falling as she balled her hands into fists, finger monitor be damned. His quip fell flat and silence was the only thing between them for a solid minute as sharp eyes contained an ire that couldnât be expressed. It took her a moment to speak, voice rasping, actually shaking from anger. âGet the hell away from me.â Even though he was standing by the door, it was still too close for the Vale whoâd have flown across the room in a fury were she able to and not stuck in a hospital bed.Â
What had already felt like one of the longest nights was turning into even more of a struggle the second her tired eyes laid themselves upon his even warier face. This was always going to happen between the pair of them and he knew that before, well, she couldnât possibly understand why he had up and left without a word or without words over the following months -- hell, Snapchat streaks were a common theme with the two of them and yet he had gone completely radio silence since that night (or well before it if he were being honest with himself) and everything Jackson used to enjoy and participate in was quickly deleted and left behind; much like those he chose to leave. âIâm not technically in the room.â the shifter replied quickly with a slight shake of his head at her response to his being there because really, with everything else that was going on --- was this really the time? For Addison Vale, yes, yes it was. â
lccxnda:
It felt strange, the cemetery was almost crowded in contrast to how eerie and silent it usually might have been, a testament to those lost in what she could only describe as an attack on the city, because questioning it any further left her head spinning with the uncertainty of what she didnât know, which by the sounds of things, was a lot. The palms of her hands began to sweat the longer she stood feet away from Devonâs grave, side by side with Mattâs. She didnât understand the premise of how any of it had happened. How her best friend, as well as her fiance had..â No they hadnât, thatâs what Teddy said. They hadnât done this to themselves, Cinda and everyone else hadnât missed the signs, and yet she still couldnât swallow the thought that someone else had ripped them; both of them, and Dylan from their lives. Nothing was meant to be this complicated, it wasnât her life and it wasnât at all how sheâd ever imagined anything working, but there she stood; over two of the most important people in her lives buried six feet below, wrapped below the light fabric of her clothing so thick with bandaging it was almost stifling, Cinda was expected back at the hospital soon, only given the afternoon after one of the nurses agreed to come with her. Blank stares only turned to something more when she heard nearing footsteps and recognition flared in eyes that previously held nothing but a hollow confliction of grief, ââ Jack.â It hit her like a wave of relief, but it felt like anything but, Cinda wasting no time in ignoring her body protest against too much movement that blossomed in pain as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, heat becoming a deep discomfort she refused to care about. âI thought..â When⌠I missed you.âÂ
@jackscnkingâÂ
Before that fateful night where Jackson King had melted away into the night without so much as a word to anyone, there had been just one place he had stopped and it just so happened to be the first place he went when he had finally returned; the grave of his brother. Now, he hadnât exactly expected to find anything all too different with the grave since the last time his eyes laid upon it and since hearing of Devonâs death, he had wondered if they would be reunited in the only way they could be --- but it still was a little shocking to see them side by side, just as they were in life ---- though not quite as shocking as the woman he happened upon who while looking exactly the same as the last time he saw her had seemed to --- Lucinda looked as though the world had crumbled around her and her eyes told the story of not knowing how exactly she was still standing; and of course they obvious bandages that were difficult to miss. The hug was a strange creature, one he hadnât allowed himself to feel since Mattâs death, to really feel along with many other emotions that would be locked away for a long time to come, but what was more concerning to the doctor was the state she seemed to be in and why the hell she wasnât in the hospital where she belonged. âCinner.â he replied weakly with the nickname he had granted her many years before as strong arms carefully placed themselves around her tiny frame in a manner that would ensure he wouldnât cause her any more harm and only for a few moments before he pulled back and began to examine what was before him as the million questions began to pile up. âI know ---- I just, you know?â incoherent words that sheâd understand but right now, there wasnât any time for that. âWhat happened to you?â he found himself asking while his gaze flickered to the two gravestones behind them, each meaning something completely different to both Jack and Cinda but both causing considerable damage with their loss.Â
the-arthur-vale:
âI can guarantee the good beer, but most the places I know have shitty music,â Arthur responded with a slight shrug. âBut then I donât listen to almost anything thatâs considered modern so that might be why I donât like it.âÂ
âIts because you have shitty taste in music, Art, always have.â Jack teased while giving the eldest Vale his best attempt at a warm smile; something that didnât come all too easy these days. âEh, the good beer is enough to sell me at this point so donât worry yourself too much.â

âI always know the bet places in town to drink., itâs kind of my thing. Follow me, Iâll take you somewhere you donât have to pay for drinksâ Del replied throwing any sort of rivalries any species have for the added benefit of drinking. She started off in the direction and glanced back at him.
âYou must be very proud of yourself for having that as your thing.â the shifter found himself saying in what he thought sounded like a mocking tone of sorts, even though the Davenport in front of him was known for these sorts of things. âMoney isnât really an option but I like the way youâre thinking, blondie.â
risingblaze:
âYeah whatever, this way.â If Blaze had his way he wouldnât have even gone with anyone. Yet, here he is trying his best to not be the natural asshole that he was. âWhy? Got somewhere to be?â That lasted.
Jackson would have gladly followed anyone on the night he returned to the city that had driven him from its streets -- company loves misery, or something like that anyway. At the otherâs question, a nothing of a shrug was offered before words began to leave his already dry lips. âHavenât had anywhere to be in a long time, buddy. Tonight is no damn different.â
julianxrhodes:
âIf you really want to cop an attitude I can always go without you.â The other retorted in light jest.Â
âBut youâre the best wing man a guy can ask for --- one look at that ugly mug of yours and they just know Iâm the better option. You canât take that away from me, man.â
hxndrcx:
âYouâre not going to find any place like that here, the only thing youâre gonnaâ find down this way is dive bars youâll get stabbed in. Six blocks over. Iâm off duty in twenty so Iâll just meet you there.â He shrugged, âThink you can handle that all on your own, King?â
âThink Iâll have more luck staying out of trouble in those twenty minutes without you.â Jackson retorted at the other as a drunken hoard of women spewed out onto the street from whatever bar didnât hold their interest any longer. âIâll just follow this lot until your ass getâs there.â

âDonât think youâd like my kind of bar, mate.â Grinning, John skipped down the way and barely managed to pass pedestrians walking along rather than knock right into them. âNot really your kind of place,â based on the smell of his blood anyway, âyou should go to Sanctuary rather than the Red Cross.âÂ
Never one to shy away from danger, or perhaps it was just pure stubbornness and not liking when otherâs told him what to do (a King family trait they knew all too well) Jackson found himself scoffing at the advice from the other, eyes looking in the direction of the infamous Red Cross that he had in fact frequented more than he card to admit. âIf I was looking for a fight, Iâd go there but tonight, no, tonight I think the Cross is perfect.â
cj-rhodes:
CJ shot him a look because he shouldâve known he was asking the wrong person but with all the shit going on between half her siblings landing in the hospital, no leads at work or on their mother, she could use another drink. âOharaâs isnât shit. Thatâs two blocks down.â She and the King werenât exactly friends but they were amicable enough. She remembered his familyâs condolences when Oliver died and she knew while his parents were going through the motions as people did, his were actually sincere and for someone who saw through bullshit like a crystal glass, CJ appreciated that. Â
A familiar face in the sea of forgettable oneâs that offered no distraction in the slightest ---- Jack didnât know which was worse but the former was making that pain in his chest feel all too real again despite it never going away. âEh, you and I might differ on that.â the shifter replied while offering the eldest Rhodes what he thought was a polite smile; despite it being forced. âBut anywhere is better than standing out on the street talking about it.â
