Have you ever seen a tufted pygmy squirrel (Exilisciurus whiteheadi)? Found only in Borneoâs mountain forestsâat elevations of more than 3,280.8 ft (1,000 m)âthis tiny critter is one of the worldâs smallest squirrels. It grows up to 3.4 in (8.6 cm) long. And at about 0.8 oz (22.7 g), adults typically weigh less than half a stick of butter! Easily recognizable thanks to its ear tufts, this species feeds primarily on moss and lichens.

NASA just dropped some of the clearest images ever captured of the planets in our Solar System. From the massive storms on Jupiter to the iconic rings of Saturn, these high-resolution views reveal details that were impossible to see just a few decades ago. Modern space telescopes and planetary missions are now capturing planets with insane clarity.
You can spot swirling cloud bands, giant storms larger than Earth, icy rings made of countless particles, and atmospheric patterns moving across entire worlds. Every new image reminds us that these planets are not just distant dots in the sky but dynamic, evolving worlds.
The Solar System is far more detailed and complex than most people imagine, and with every new observation scientists continue uncovering structures, weather systems, and surface features that reshape what we know about our cosmic neighborhood.

okay so spock (the alien in blue) essentially goes into heat. like literal heat like an animal. Anyway, spockâs in bloodlust in this episode and must go back to vulcan to have sex with his finace (or someone. but its supposed to be his fiance) or heâll literally die. this is called pon farr and some backstory spock is half human and thought he wouldnt go through pon farr so he abandoned his HOT fiance to fuck around in space except oops pon farr happens so. he and kirk (in yellow getting his tits cut open, heâs also spocks captain and best friend) and their other friend mccoy go to vulcan so he can have sex with his fiance or get married or whatever so he doesnât die. but then spockâs fiance (tâpring) is like no i dont want to marry spock i want to have him fight someone to death (which she can do) and spock at this point is fully in the âblood lustâ and is basically not in his right mind and doesnt get whatâs happening. and tâpring picks kirk to be her âchampionâ in the fight (her logic is that if spock dies in the fight she doesnt have to marry him and if kirk dies, spock will be so upset with her he wonât marry her anymore anyway). anyway kirk doesnt know that its a fight to the death and so heâs like of course iâll do this fight if itâll help spock and then he gets told itâs a fight to the death and he goes WHAT and right afterwards spock slices his titties open like in the gif. also eventually spock and kirk roll around in the sand and kirk fakes his death and THIS somehow knocks spock out of his blood lust and he goes back to the ship super sad bc heâs killed his âbest friendâ only to discover kirkâs alive and we see one of his biggest smiles of the series (a big deal bc spock is vulcan and they dont show emotion). anyway this aired as the season opener in 1967. know your history and all that happy pride

It's waterproof. It's windproof. It's lightweight and durable. And it's made from the intestines of two bears, painstakingly cleaned and sew
I really wanted to know more about this, especially how the water proof stitching works. Here's more information on this project, and hopefully more in the future!
This is amazing! I need to make a note to play around with that water proof stitch technology soon.

Waves on Titan Video Credit: Una Schneck Text: Cecilia Chirenti (NASA GSFC, UMCP, CRESST II)
Explanation: Have you ever thought about surfing on an alien world? We can now expand the search for the perfect wave from Earth to the rest of the Solar System, and beyond. Scientists have developed a new model for simulating waves on other planets. Titan is one of the 274 confirmed moons of Saturn to date, and the only object in the solar system (besides Earth) known to have liquid lakes and seas on its surface. The featured video shows a simulation of waves on Earth (right) and on Titan (left), under the same conditions (the scale marker is in meters). A light breeze would create taller, slower-moving waves on Titan than on Earth, because the lakes there are filled with light liquid hydrocarbons, and because of Titanâs low gravity and higher atmospheric pressure. In a couple of years, NASA expects to launch the Dragonfly mission, which will travel for 6 years and send a rotorcraft to explore Titan and study its microbial habitability.

i like when people say that the universality of campbell's hero's journey only applies to western mythology/folklore. brother, i am going to hold your hand when i say this... it doesn't apply there too
The woman, aged about 50, was buried in a Siberian ice cave and discovered millennia later.
She was a 50 y.o. Siberian woman from 2500 years ago, living a nomadic lifestyle, and look at her tattoos...
Look...
I'm going to cry
Prev mentioned âdid you see the chicken tattoo thoughâ and i wanna make sure everyone else sees it too

Lee: bro i couldn't live in a world without babes Patricia Highsmith: yeah a world without dames, that's like a world without sunshine Lee: to think Lee: never again to see a booby Highsmith: Highsmith: yeah, exactly that Mary SanGiovanni: that would be the worst thing
Bram Stoker: i don't know what you guys are all upset about Stoker: it doesn't sound so bad to me Lee: bro! Lee: bro you take that back bro! Stoker: i'm just saying, it would be easier to get stuff done Lee: you take that back!!! Lee: all women are queens, bro!!!
Cranehill: but what if Cranehill: in this dude world Cranehill: this world of dudes Cranehill: some super smart scientists came up with a solution Lee: oh thank god bro Cranehill: what if they made new women Lee: new women, bro? Cranehill: out of mushrooms Lee: Lee: bro
Lee: bro i don't know bro Cranehill: they're exactly the same Cranehill: they talk, they think, they're just like people Cranehill: exactly like people Cranehill: mostly like people Cranehill: i mean maybe there's some little differences Cranehill: barely worth mentioning really

Overcome by my suspicion that even seemingly mundane things in the natural world still have important properties that we don't even know about, either because we don't know how to detect them yet or we haven't observed then yet under the right conditions or because they somehow don't lend themselves to the reductionist framework in which science operates.
A team of researchers affiliated with several institutions in Spain and the U.S. has announced that they have discovered a new property of l
Like how long have people been studying light? And then just a few years ago, they discover a whole new property of it that wasn't even suspected.

Imagine a fluffy unicorn thatâs bred for its wool like a sheep- once or twice a year it has to get shorn and the shearer just has to awkwardly flop and position the unicorn around without getting stabbed. Perhaps they cover the horn with a protective pool noodle
Do you see my vision???

the flightless cormorant, sometimes known as the galĂĄpagos cormorant, is a unique cormorant species endemic to the galapĂĄgos - they are found along the rocky coastlines of the isabela and fernandina islands. they are the only example of a cormorant that has lost the ability to fly through evolution. this evolution initially occurred due to the birds being found on an island free of predators - however, human introduction of cats, dogs, and pigs has made survival more challenging without flight. they are classified in genus nannopterum, alongside the neotropic cormorant & double crested cormorant. they are the largest living member of their family at 2.5â5.0Â kg (5.5â11.0Â lb), though their wings are approximately one-third of the size that would be necessary for a bird of this weight to take off. the sexes are similar in appearance, with blackish upperparts and a brown underside; however, males are larger and heavier than females. the flightless cormorantâs keel (an extension of the breastbone, where muscles needed for flight attach) is also significantly reduced compared to other cormorants. however, flightless cormorants are still adept hunters whose webbed feet and powerful legs help propel them underwater in pursuit of their prey. these birds feed near the sea floor, with their diet consisting of fish, octopi, and other small marine mammals. surprisingly, despite being birds who feed by diving underwater, the flightless cormorant shares a trait found across cormorants - their feathers are not waterproof. they spend time after each dive drying off in the sunlight in preparation for their next hunt. their hair-like, dense body feathers trap air, which prevents the birds from becoming waterlogged. the flightless cormorant is currently listed as âvulnerableâ by the IUCN due to their limited range and population size.
