𝕄𝕚𝕜𝕣𝕠𝕜𝕠𝕤𝕞𝕠𝕤

     free of rhys and free of his ex, remi was finally letting himself relax. jaehyun tended to have that effect on him, though, allowing remi to be his truest self. especially since the conversation wasn’t veering back towards either of the aforementioned boys, remi’s smile grew more natural and his demeanor brightened. his eyes linger on the encounter between jaehyun and the stall worker, wondering why the two seemed so familiar (and why it caused his friend’s cheeks to pink). he files it away to ask about later, preferably when out of earshot of the man in question. it was bizarre to say the least – jae definitely had a boyfriend and, at least to remi, seemed very much in love. “i know where to aim,” the smaller boy pouts, accepting a ring of his own and poking his tongue out to try his best. “but i’m rubbish at these things, even when i actually try. that’s why you have to win me the teddy! you’re my only hope!” remi gives his ring a throw and, sure enough, manages to miss every bottle. he lets out a pathetic little whine and points dramatically. “i told you so!”

Jaehyun was glad as Remi seemed to understand and didn’t ask any questions. Having known each other and being best friends for as long as they had, it was common for the pair to communicate without needing to exchange words. They were pretty good at telling each other’s mood just by the look on their eyes. Jae watched closely as Remi tried throwing the ring, silently hoping it’d work but then laughing a bit as it didn’t and his friend seemed frustated by it. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed.” The model apologized quickly,  smiling as he saw the pout on his best friend’s face. “I’ll help you, hold on.” Grabbing another ring, Jae placed it on Remi’s hand and adjusted his arm to an ideal height and angle, hoping that would make it finally work. “Try now, babe. If it doesn’t work then I’ll just play and win the prize for you. But as your best friend I can’t let you give up so easily! C’mon, you can do it!”

     remi spends a little too long fixing up his hair even after jae has stepped in to sort it out, tousling fingers through it and flicking his chin to arrange his bangs. he’s meticulous about his appearance to a fault, even when he’s just in the company of his best friend. with a pout, he keeps at it until they’re walking away from the ride. “i’m a little queasy myself – rhys abandoned me by the food stands sorta near where you found me. i was tempted but i resisted!” he links their arms together, leaning against his friend’s taller frame for a bit of support. “hmmm, games? i haven’t gotten the chance to waste money and embarrass myself failing at carnival games yet. you’re probably going to have all the luck but that’s okay because we both know you’ll give me the prize at the end, right?” he flutters his lashes deliberately, fixing a smile over at jaehyun. the games also have the added bonus of giving them something to focus on as opposed to talking about recent happenings.

Jaehyun knew that he wouldn’t be able to convince his best friend that his hair looked fine until Remi was done trying to fix it on his own so he didn’t even try. “I’m proud of you for resisting, now we can stuff our faces on cotton candy and get a sugar high together!” He chuckled softly,  smiling warmly as Remi linked their arms together and leaned against him.  “Sounds good!  But we’ll pick an easy one so we can both win.” Remi’s attempt to act cute to get him to give him the prizes made Jae laugh softly.  “Sure, I’ll get you a cute teddy bear but you’ll have to name him after me. Let’s try the ring toss first!” Jae guided them towards the game, smiling at the worker that greeted them and asking if they could take a few practice shots first. The guy nodded, passing them the rings but holding on to Jaehyun’s hand for longer than necessary. That made him blush a bit before he retrieving his hand and stepping with Remi to the side so they could practice. With his eyes, the model was asking his not to mention what had just happened. The worker was still looking at them and would probably be able to hear their conversation. “The key here is to know where to aim.” He explained, before throwing one of the rings and getting it on. “See? Told you it was easy! Now, you try it.” 

       “ guess  that  means  we’re  pajama  buddies , ”  he  replied ,  a  smile  immediately  spreading  across  his  face  once  his  best  friend  opened  the  door .  he  didn’t  know  if  he  was  completely  done  giving  jae  a  hard  time  since  he  was  still  slightly  upset  that  he  and  remi  had  somehow  gotten  hitched  right  under  his  nose ,  but  it  was  hard  to  be  mad  when  he  was  in  front  of  him .  still ,  he  didn’t  give  him  his  usual  bear  hug  to  greet  him  as  a  way  to  show  he  was  still  ticked  off . stepping  into  the  house ,  rhys  sat  down  on  the  chair  that  was  out  for  him  before  turning  to  look  at  his  friend .  “ i  do  think  they  believed  it  because  that’s  what  they  want  to  believe . ”  he  sighed  .  “ i  didn’t  tell  remi  the  real  reason  why  i  told  them ,  so  please  don’t  tell  him ,”  he  added ,  giving  the  other  a  serious  look  before  continuing . “ my  parents  decided  i  was  being  too  reckless  living  on  my  own  here  in  nevada .  they  thought  i  would  do  something  to  shame  the  family ,  so  they  really  wanted  me  to  be  in  a  relationship  because  it  would  somehow  tie  me  down  or  whatever .  they  even  had  some  people  lined  up  that  they  wanted  to  arrange  a  marriage  with . ”  despite  the  fact  that  he  originally  planned  to  give  jae  a  hard  time ,  the  explanation  came  out  of  him  all  at  once .  “ if  remi  and  i  were  to  get  a  divorce  right  away ,  they  would  be  angry  at  me  because  that’s  the  exact  stupid  thing  they  expected  would  happen .  if  we  wait  a  while ,  they’ll  be  pissed  at  him  still ,  but  it’ll  seem  less  suspicious .  so  do  you  see  why  i  was  mad  that  all  of  this  happened ? ”

Part of him still had expected Rhys to prove him wrong and pull him into a hug, Jaehyun’s  lips pursed in a small pout as that didn’t happen. Looking up at his best friend, he listened intently as he talked. “Of course, if you don’t want me to tell Remi then I won’t.” He promised. Admittedly, Jae had wondered why Rhys had told his parents about the wedding. But the model wasn’t expecting the answer he got, his eyes widened a bit in surprise and suddendly he felt guilty as he realized that he had been too selfish worrying only about his problems when his best friend was going through all of that on his own. He had no idea  Rhy’s parents were trying to push him into an arranged marriage. “Oh, I didn’t know things were this bad. You’re still so young, Rhys! They shouldn’t be pushing you into a marriage like that!  Do you think they believed that if you got married you’d be more willing to take over  your family’s company?” Reaching over, Jae took a hold of his best friend’s left hand on his and squeezed softly to show support. “I’m sorry. I shoul’ve notice something was wrong. Should’ve been here for you when all of this was happening.” He said in a soft tone. “Did you have to go on blind dates with those people they wanted you to meet?” Jae wondered, hoping that wasn’t the case. “Yes, I understand now. And you’re right, it’ll probably be better to wait a bit before filling  for divorce.  The whole situation is just so messed up.” He sighed. “I’m sorry again that I couldn’t stop it from happening.”

     for reasons he doesn’t want to unpack – neither to himself nor to jaehyun – talking about his impending divorce has bile rising in his stomach in much the same way as talking about his ex had done. it feels like every aspect of remi’s life is spiraling out of control. the easily accessible metaphor comparing it to the coaster they’ve just boarded is not at all lost on him. jae’s grip on his hand is tightening by the second, bordering on painful by the time they near the top of the climb. “jae!” remi accuses in a squeaky voice. “why are we on this ride if we’re both scared?” anything else he has left to say gets swallowed by a high pitched scream, returning the death hold on his friend’s hand as they head down the first real drop of the coaster. his other hand locks around the lap bar as his body jolts around within the coaster cart. hills and dips, curves and climbs, the ride would almost be impressively thrilling if remi weren’t so worried about being thrown out of it. his job may prepare him for heights and some level of risk-taking but it doesn’t include the awful mechanical clatter of a train leaning practically off the tracks. somewhere after a jolting turn, remi’s fear turns to fun or, at least, a healthy balance of both. his screams are half-laughs though he still clutches to jae for dear life, only loosening his fingers when the coaster train starts to slow.

 “Because it’s also fun! And thrilling!” Jaehyun let out the last part as a shout as they descended, eyes closing shut. Sure, it was scary for a moment but the surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins made him feel alive. Was nice to let himself go and just enjoy the ride with his best friend. Up there on the roller coaster he could forget about his problems, at least for a while. Jae could hear Remi screaming next to him, and he sure did the same a couple times, until the model was finally able to open his eyes and have fun. “See? I told you it’d be great!” He said, giggling a bit as he looked over at Remi and saw the state his best friend’s hair was at. “Oh God, you hair got all messed up, Rem.” Jae laughed again, reaching over with his free hand to fix it as the ride was coming to a stop. “Anyways, was a good thing we didn’t eat that cotton candy before coming up here. I feel kinda dizzy.” Waiting for the fair’s employee to come help and lift the security bar for them, Jaehyun got up after he did, waiting for Remi to follow and then guiding them away. “Are you okay? Where should we go next?”

          it  didn’t  take  that  long  for  rhys  to  get  ready  to  head  to  jae’s  home .  he  was  clad  in  his  pajamas ,  but  it  didn’t  matter  if  jae  saw  him  like  that  because  he  was  comfortable  in  front  of  him .  and  so  within  moments ,  he  was  jumping  into  his  car  and  driving  down  the  roads  that  he  knew  very  well  from  the  numerous  times  he  had  visited  his  best  friend .  soon  enough  ,  he  had  arrived  and  was  racing  to  the  front  door ,  bringing  a  hand  up  to  knock  on  it .   he  was  happy  to  finally  be  able  to  spend  time  with  jae .  there  was  a  lot  he  had  to  tell  him  and  also  a  lot  that  he  had  to  complain  about ,  most ,  if  not  all ,  about  remi .  jae  was  definitely  the  only  person  that  would  hear  him  out   and  let  him  rant  about  stuff  like  that  and  it  was  something  that  he  really  appreciated  about  him .  he  also  had  a  bit  of  apologizing  to  do  for  the  way  he  had  been  cold  towards  him  recently  because  he  realized  just  how  childish  he  had  been  and  how  jae  didn’t  deserve  that .

As soon as their text conversation was over, Jaehyun went to his kitchen to heat up the jangjjamyeon. Rhys didn't live too far apart from him so he knew his best friend would be there soon. The model didn't even think about changing out of his navvy blue pajamas as he was really comfortable and knew for a fact that Rhys would't mind it. When the food was properly heated up, Jae set the table for them. After that, he only had time to check his reflection on the microwave door before the knock on his door was heard and he rushed to the living room to open it and greet his friend. “Hey! Looks like we're matching.” He said in an amused tone, referring to the fact that they were both wearing pj's. The smile on his lips was warm and genuine as he had truly missed Ryhs a lot. In fact, Jaehyun resisted the urge to hug him in that moment, as he didn't know if the younger male would want that, and just stepped back instead so his best friend could come inside. They seemed to have worked out their issues through their text messages but Jaehyun was still unsure if Rhys had completely forgiven him. “I'd ask how you've been but we just went over that via text. Tell me how things went with your parents! Weren't they surprised that you got married so suddenly? Do you think they really believed the whole story?” He asked after guiding his friend towards the table and pulling out a chair for him before doing the same for himself and sitting next to Rhys.

RHYS: you know me, always giving the best cuddles

RHYS: i can tell. he's also very stubborn on top of that

RHYS: it's not scary at all to me because he's short

RHYS: but i can try to be around most of the time. and i make a pretty good knight in shining armor, don't i?

RHYS: i can't deal with jealous boyfriends so maybe it's for the best

RHYS: i don't think he has anything to worry about so he can relax

RHYS: i'm glad you don't talk about that stuff though. i can talk to you about everything and they're just thinking about that so don't worry about it!!

RHYS: he hasn't told me anything and he just acts that way so i don't know what to think. i'm also not agreeing on a truce if he doesn't do it first and i doubt it

RHYS: i'll be there soon !!

JAE: Always

JAE: Well that's probably because you haven't seen him when he's really really angry yet

JAE: The fire on his eyes makes up for the height difference, trust me

JAE: I really appreciate that, babe. Thanks

JAE: Definitely for the best, trust me

JAE: I know, right?? Best friends are supposed to be close

JAE: I mean, I could've told them that I get free designer clothes after a job but I don't wanna be that guy...

JAE: Yeah, I like that you're not like them and we can talk about everything

JAE: Well, have you ever had a civil coversation with him when it was only the two of you? Remi's not the type of person to just randomly talk about his problems

JAE: But wait!! Are you saying that you'd agree to a truce as long as Remi does it first?

“i know, i know – i guess some part of me was hoping he’d text me someday with an apology and tell me he’d missed me or something. i’m not all that great at picking boyfriends, you know,” remi sighs dramatically, his phone feeling heavy in his pocket. he keeps it to himself that he decided to meet up with said ex for coffee. he feels like his best friend would yell at him if he knew and he isn’t ready to be scolded on top of his lying. “am i really better off without him? i mean, we were only broken up for a few months before i’m off marrying my mortal enemy. i’d hardly say i’m doing any better!” he feigns a laugh, leaning into jaehyun’s embrace and the gentle touch to his hair. “i think rhys and i are improving at our pretending. in fact, i’d even say he’s a good fake husband if he weren’t so intolerable every other waking minute of the day.” remi shrugs dramatically but then his cheeks are tinting in a blush. “i – er, i mean… yeah. it’s pretty much just what it sounds like.” he shuffles his feet awkwardly as they shift ahead in line. “we were in bed. together. it just sorta happened.” luckily, they were spared getting into details by their turn approaching for the ride and he followed along after jaehyun as he picked out their seat. remi places his smaller hand into jae’s, using the support to lower himself down into the seat and then securing the seatbelts on both of their laps. a bar comes down to secure them even more into place and he keeps his grip on his friend, for reassurance. “don’t get your hopes up, jaehyun,” he murmurs as the coaster train starts its depart from the station. “you can take my word on it – rhys and i are never going to be friends. not like you and i.”

Jaehyun’s expression softened as he heard his best friend’s reply, a sigh leaving his lips. “Aw, baby. I can understand that but you gotta move on at some point, you know?” The model said softly, resting his head on Remi’s shoulder for a moment.  “Oh yeah, I definitely know that. But I think you’re supposed to go through bad relationships in life so they’d teach you to really appreaciate it when you finally get into a nice one.” Jae frowned at hearing what Remi said next,  in his opinion anyone else would be better than his best friend’s ex. “Of course you are! Do I need to remind you of what he did to you? I know that you’re in a complicated situation right now and you and Rhys can’t stand each other but I can guarantee that he’d never hurt you.” He said sincerely, Jaehyun was sure of that.  “Well, that’s good! You never know when you’ll need to pretend to be a happy couple again. Have you guys decided on a reason to ask for divorce yet? I think you’ll need to have one.” Laughing softly at hearing his best friend’s next comment, Jae shook his head. “That sounded like a compliment.” He teased. As they were momentarily separated and Remi didn’t give him many details, Jae just sent him a look to let his best friend know he’d let it go for now but they’d talk about it again later. “Alright, alright. Way to crush my hopes and dreams.” Jae sighed dramatically. As the roller coaster train started moving, the model got a bit nervous, they had a long climb to the top before it dropped and he was already dreading it. “If I close my eyes you can’t make fun of me, okay?” Jae asked, gripping tightly on Remi’s hand as the roller coaster finally descended and then went on a really fast curve. 

     remi smiles back, his little nose crinkling. “i’m sure your boyf would love sharing you with me. i’m hot, young and spry – i don’t know that he’d be able to compare!” he’s only teasing, of course. he doesn’t even have the self confidence to back his claim but it’ll hopefully make jaehyun’s smile a bit more genuine. his best friend deserves better, of that remi is certain, but he can only tell him as much. getting jae to actually believe him is a choice the other is going to have to make for himself. “my ex? no, i didn’t,” he frowns, sagging into the offered half hug. “he did text me the other day. he was asking about me and rhys – isn’t that ridiculous?” he scoffs. his own arm winds around jae’s middle to keep him close, stepping side-by-side as the line shuffles forward. “i may have… lied to him. told him that my marriage was a happy one, no matter how sudden. i couldn’t help it! he just seemed so… sure that there was no way it was real. like i couldn’t have moved on from him that quickly.” in reality, he couldn’t – remi was still hung up on his ex but it was just another factor playing into all his struggles of late. one of many. he nuzzles his head against jaehyun’s sweetly, eyes fluttering closed for a moment. “it wasn’t romantic for real, jae! i was kidding.” he pouts, elbowing his friend’s side in their hug. “a couple rotations on a big mechanical wheel and a stroll around afterwards doesn’t exactly compare to being forced to cuddle in his king bed. i still hate him.” he says it so matter-of-factly, like it would never ever change. “i’m sure he still hates me too – we’re barely not killing each other. he’s so infuriating.”

An amused giggle left his lips as Jaehyun heard his best friend’s words.“Of course he would!  It’d probably take a while to convince him, but I got my ways.” He smiled, sending Remi a playful wink. The model was actually relieved he wouldn’t have to talk more about his relationship,  his best friend could see right trough him, would be easy to tell if he was lying. “What? I can’t believe him!” Jaehyun scoffed, getting angry now. “He has absolutely no right to try and meddle in your life again. You should’ve blocked him ages ago, Rem.” His arm wrapped protectively around his best friend’s back as they moved on  the line. “I don’t blame you, the only problem now is that you may have to keep pretending with Rhys for his sake. What an entitled little shit. Serously babe, you’re so much better without him.” Jaehyun said in a reassuring way, threading his fingers lightly through Remi’s hair. Dogding as his friend sent his elbow towards him, Jae chuckled softly. “I know, was just messing with you.” His eyes widened as he heard what Remi said next, eyebrows raising in question.“Forced to cuddle? You didn’t tell me that part!” The model exclaimed as they moved along again and it was finally their turn on the ride. Stepping inside, he picked a middle seat for them, where it had less chances of being so scary. Sitting down, he waited for his friend to follow before continuing talking “I’ll still consider it progress.” Jae teased, before offering his hand up for Remi to grab before the ride started.

RHYS: i do move around a lot in my sleep but i'm also a big cuddler and so you have to deal with that :((

RHYS: yeah he most definitely would've killed me he seems like the type that would never get over it

RHYS: okay good because i would've had to find him and beat him up. honestly i'm surprised we didn't somehow end up in a polyamorous marriage from how gone we all were

RHYS: but you're nice and my friends are nice. remi is a lot to deal with and wants to fight about everything

RHYS: i would :( i'll try but you know me.. i'm dramatic

RHYS: i'll be there as fast as i can !!

JAE: You're lucky your cuddles are worth it ❤️

JAE: Exactly, you think you hold grudges?? Remi never lets go. He's even more stubborn than I am

JAE: And it's actually scary when he's mad

JAE: Aw, my knight in shining armour. ❤️ Thanks, babe but I can fight some battles on my own, can't always expect you to be around to save me.

JAE: Oh God, can you imagine the mess we'd be in if that had happened? We'd all be dead by now. My boyfriend would kill me first and then the two of you, R.I.P

JAE: He already thinks I'm too close w/ you both as it is, so yeah

JAE: True but sometimes I feel left out when they're talking about the expensive vacations they just came back from, or how much they spent on Gucci in a day

JAE: He's just benn through some rough patches lately, but that's not my story so I shouldn't be the one disclosuring it. All I know is that It'd be much easier if you two decided on temporary truce when you have to be on the same place, at least

JAE: Thank you, that's all I'm asking for, babe

“oh my god – your neck is sensitive – don’t pull your hair. honestly, jae! is there any part of you that is safe to touch? what has that beau of yours been up to!” his scolding is playful but there’s a glimmer of genuine curiosity in remi’s look at his friend. jaehyun’s relationship was somewhat of a mystery to remi – he had yet to meet the boyfriend which, as one of jae’s best friends, struck him as odd. jae seems happy though which is enough for remi. for now. “you can say that again,” remi purrs contently, drinking in the praise. “i’ve run into my ex boyfriend and my husband on the same day – i’m just really unlucky when i’m left to my own devices. i don’t even have to make decisions for things to go badly!” he half laughs, giving their intertwined hands a swing. standing in line, he feels like he can give his story the proper dramatics it deserves. he starts with a heavy sigh and a very drawn out shrug. “i mean… it could’ve gone worse. obviously, we both made it out in one piece but he definitely didn’t appreciate the company. he said he wanted a me-day or something. that’s probably why he didn’t tell you he’d come, actually. i accidentally crashed his alone time when we ended up on the ferris wheel together. trés romantique.”

“You don't need to get jealous, babe! There's enough of me for the both of you.” Jaehyun said in a playful tone, chuckling softly. “He's busy as always, working. We went on a date last night, though. It was nice.” The model replied, still smiling but this time it didn't quite reach his eyes. As Remi said he encountered his ex, Jaehyun's posture changed, his protective side taking over. “Oh no! Tell me you didn't talk to him, Rem. That jerk doesn't deserve a minute of your time.” There's not many people Jaehyun dislikes but Remi's ex certainly made that list. If the model was a violent person he'd certainly have punched him by now for all of the suffering he had caused his best friend. “Well, it's decided then. I'm never leaving your side again.” Jaehyun said, giving his best friend a side hug and resting his chin on the shorter guy's shoulder as he listed to the story. “That makes sense, I think he really needed a day to himself. And if you stop to think about it... that does seem pretty romantic! Everyone knows the ferris wheel is a couple's ride!” The model teased. “But seriously, it seems like you're making progress on not hating each other so much? You seemed a lot more annoyed when you had to sleep over at his place?”

spotting jaehyun, it takes everything in his power not to break into a run. he’s had a day already and his best friend is clearly the only remedy. once he’s in front of him, remi sinks into the hug and squeezes in extra close, nuzzling into his neck playfully. “i’ll buy you all the cotton candy you can eat if you just don’t leave me alone for the rest of the day. i can’t be trusted on my own!” he only takes half a step back and clutches at jae’s hand, linking their fingers. “to the roller coaster! though, if i get scared you can’t make fun of me for it, okay?” he starts leading his friend towards the attraction, smile softening at the edges. “i saw rhys.”

Seeing Remi would always brighten his day,  Jaehyun couldn’t help the grin that spread on his lips as they hugged. He giggled as his neck was nuzzled, playfully pushing his best friend away. “Don’t do that, you know it’s a sensitive spot.” It was clear by his tone that he didn’t mind it a bit. “You have a deal! But I wouldn’t leave you alone, babe.  It wouldn’t be half as fun without you.” The model said sincerely, looking down at their hands as his best friend grabbed his, Jae always thought it was cute how they fit together nicely. “Why can’t you be trusted on your own, though? Afraid you’ll make bad decisions if I’m not here to give you advice?”  He teased. “I don’t think it’ll be too scary, but alright. I won’t make fun of you.” Jaehyun promised, still smiling as they made their way towards the roller coaster and stood in line. “Oh, really? He didn’t tell me he’d come! How did that go?” Was asked carefully, as he watched Remi for a moment. His best friend didn’t seem mad or stressed so Jae assumed it couldn’t have been so bad. 

what skylar was expecting was an answer, nothing too extravagant, and for the two to part ways. simple. what she wasn’t expecting was to be offered a jacket. she’d never met this guy before, but the offer seemed genuine and with good intentions. it was sweet. “oh, I mean, are you sure? I don’t want to take your jacket if you need it or want it, you know?” still, she takes the material in her hand and ties it around her waist, perfectly covering up the issue at hand. “just let me know if you want it back.” skylar pauses for a moment, looking around at everything happening in the two’s general surroundings, then turns back to the stranger. “it’s nice to meet you by the way. I’m skylar murphy.” she nods in greeting. “what brings you to the fair?”

Jaehyun didn’t think much before he offered the girl his jacket, it seemed like the right thing to do at the moment.  “I am sure, yeah. Don’t worry about it.” The model replied, sending her a soft smile. “What happened to your shirt? If you don’t mind me asking?” He questioned, looking up at her. “It’s nice to meet you as well, I’m Jaehyun.” He replied, stil smiling as they started walking again. “Oh, I thought it’d be fun to check it out. I’m currently waiting for a friend but he’s running late. What about you?” 

RHYS: well i'm a gentleman so it's not like i'm gonna strangle him. if anything i'm surprised he didn't strangle me in my sleep

RHYS: wait really? i don't remember someone else there. but hopefully that creep didn't have anything to do with this or did anything to you

RHYS: i don't think we were ever going to get along though. it's what i've been trying to tell you before all of this

RHYS: i wasn't going to go forever without talking to you. i just .. i don't even know what or who i'm supposed to be mad at at this point.

RHYS: ooh that's my favorite !! you always make the best food

JAE: Yeah but you move a lot in your sleep. Remember that time you almost kicked me off? It's a struggle to cuddle with you :((

JAE: If you had kicked Remi off the bed, even if it wasn't intentional, then I don't think you'd have survived...
