For you @scribblescrabblesdabble! Thank you for the prompt, even though it took me a while to get this written for you!
They were leaning against the motorcycle at a pull off on the Pacific Coast Highway when Eddie asked, “Hey, what’s it like on your planet?”
Which one? Venom rumbled. There was the slight pressure at the back of Eddie’s eyes that meant that Venom was looking out over the crashing waves as well. We have many.
“Oh.” That was an intimidating thought. “Yours then. The one you came from.”
Venom was silent for a while, and Eddie wondered if he was going to get words or an overwhelming rush of Venom’s own memories as an answer.
I don’t have a planet, Venom finally said. I was spawned on a ship. The first planet I remember was…dying. Eddie got an image of a planet full of alien architecture and strange looking plants, but empty of animal life. Venom’s memory was colored by the desperation of racing for a host before the toxic atmosphere killed it, only for it’s host to quickly wither and die and for the race to start again.
“Fuck that,” Eddie said. “Sounds terrible.”
It was. A small head peeked out of Eddie’s collar, squinting with satisfaction at the ocean below and the green mountains above them. This is my planet now.
Eddie laughed at Venom’s smug sense of ownership. “You don’t miss, you know, having others like you around?”
Eddie felt Venom’s no at that so strongly that he instinctively shook his head. A stronger Klyntar will consume a weaker one, Venom said, and the memories that came with that made Venom so agitated that Eddie could feel him manifesting around his shoulders like a shawl. They take, and take, and take-
“Hey, hey, it’s ok bud,” Eddie said, sliding a hand inside the neck of his shirt to stroke Venom. He remembered the fight with Riot and Drake, the weird sickening sensation of losing himself when Riot had tried absorbed them. But remembering that only made it worse, and suddenly more memories came bubbling up from Venom, some about Riot and some about other symbiotes Eddie didn’t recognize. “Uh, Vee, are you-”
We killed Riot, Venom growled savagely, and Eddie felt a spiral of possessive rage and terror that was starting to make his heart race, a strange feeling since he knew it wasn’t his fear or anger. We killed Riot. “This is my planet now!” The last bit was snarled out loud as Venom erupted from Eddie’s skin. It dug talons into the metal guard rail and with a sound of tortured metal, ripped it out and threw it over the cliff.
Whoa whoa “Stop!” Eddie managed to stop Venom with the motorcycle lifted over their head, ready to go down the cliff as well.
Sorry, Venom said contritely, starting to retreat.
Eddie staggered as the weight of motorcycle started to make itself apparent to his puny human muscles. “Bike first!” he said, words coming out a bit strangled.
Sorry, Venom said again, coming back out to put the motorcycle down gently before it melted back into Eddie’s skin.
“So, uh, those Klyntar are some bad guys, huh?” Eddie said, throwing a leg over his bike and putting on his helmet, more to keep the police from giving him a hard time than concern for his safety. “Well I’m glad you’re on my side, Vee. Welcome to Earth.”
