I wish I can overcome laziness, weariness, procrastonatination and actually study and get some things done π
Blow out the candles and see what happensβ¦
Effortless effort is the best way to overcome laziness. It doesnβt always help with procrastination or study habits. It canβt even get you started on a mediation routine. What it does is turn your laziness against itself by recognizing how much effort it takes to not do those things you want to do. It also lets you be aware without even trying. Getting good at effortless effort takes some practice.
Meditation lets you take laziness to its extreme and to procrastinate everything. It is doing nothing when there is so much to do. It takes some effort to sit your body up and hold it still for 20 minutes. Then it takes some effort to focus your attention on your breath and bring it back when it wanders off. It takes no effort to have distracting thoughts. They come on their own, again and again. Bringing your attention back to your breath is effortless. It happens as soon as you notice the wandering thought.
After sitting in meditation for 20 minutes, studying suddenly becomes less work than doing nothing. You can ask yourself, would I rather study or sit another 20 minutes?Β If the answer is mediation, then sit some more.
Using mediation as your primary procrastination technique will help you build the focus skills you need to propel you toward your goals. Learning doesnβt take effort, it takes exposing yourself to the material and engaging with it. As you engage with studies, you find things interesting. As you find interest in things studying them becomes easier than not studying them.
Another effortless practice is being present. You are always present. It takes no effort to be where you are. It takes effort to be elsewhere. When you hold yourself to where you are and interact with the people who are there with you, you live your life as it happens. You study to study, not to perform on a test. However, when you know the material, tests become effortless and fun as you spew out your knowledge.
It takes some effort to change procrastination and laziness habits and to create productive study habits. But the initial effort you put into creating new habits makes all those things you donβt want to do now much easier to do later.
Procrastinate NOW! See, you canβt do it.
