So, I finally got around to reading the controversy many fans and critics have of the New 52 Red Hood and the Outlaws. I refused to believe it at first, but I can say now that Scott Lobdell has a lot of explaining to do. Why it is that he decided to turn Starfire into the sex symbol of DC (although, Power Girl's tits could be argued), rather than a sexually liberated character, I've absolutely no idea. I didn't care much for her sex appeal at first when I started reading the comics last year, but now that I look back at them, I can't help but think, "This is the Starfire I grew up with? This is the clueless, innocent girl from Planet Tamaran that I adored on Cartoon Network's Teen Titans?" And the fact that she ASKS Roy Harper to have sex with her in the first issue, THE FIRST DAMN ISSUE, made me think that Koriand'r was a whore. Sure, Raven fucked shit up at her and Dick's wedding, but that doesn't give Lobdell the reason to write Starfire as a "she's got nothing left to lose after that" character. However, I think by issue #10, the fans of Red Hood and the Outlaws as well as the critics finally got through to Lobdell. If you look at the "sexual" difference between Starfire's and Isabel's space suits, it's very clear that the only skin showing on Starfire is her head and neck. The fact that Isabel's space suit has "fondle my tits, Jason" written all over it, pisses me off. It makes me think Jason wants nothing more than to sleep with every damn girl he comes by. So far every female introduced in Red Hood and the Outlaws Jason has been romantically tied to (besides Ducra and Talia, of course). Essence, Starfire, and Isabel. Essence is probably Lobdell's few redeeming factors for Red Hood. In my opinion, I believe she's a far better character than Raven, then again, she was specifically created for Red Hood and the Outlaws. Anywhore, I still enjoy the storyline for Red Hood. Lobdell is a decent writer, but I think he should just stick to the New 52 Teen Titans. Have Scott Snyder, Jeph Loeb, or Grant Morrison write Red Hood and the Outlaws.
