She walked to one of the cultivated pillars of flame, feeling that here would be the last of the wounded. People gathered around it, eating and warming against the coming night’s cold that already crept close. And it was here that she glimpsed yet again the other pillar of their faith in a better tomorrow, an angelic aspect among the injured. Marla had been wondering who she was, and now she could finally find out. She eyed Kayle as she approached, a silent smile showing her appreciation, then knelt and placed her hands on a man’s burns, slowly healing them with a soothing glow of blue. With all she had done today, even Marla began to tire.

Much to her own dismay, Kayle had arrived too late. She only saw the escaping monster disappear into the horizon and she was battling two options: follow the creature and make it regret bringing harm to the town, or remain and assist the mortals and heal who she could. Although her heart and the souls of the dead yearned for justice, the very same souls screamed and begged her to save those who remained under the rubble, and thus, Kayle remained.

Although she did not tire as fast as the other mortals, the aspect of Justice felt the exhaustion creep in on her after so many long hours of using her powers to lift the boulders, break through them and heal those unfortunate. Some she saved from the jaws of death, others were not so fortunate. But she gathered the souls of those who had not survived and guided them to the celestial realm where they’d find peace and continue existing knowing that their families and friends remained safe. What Kayle had learned over the ages was that she could not save everyone and as grim as it sounded, a large amount of the deceased was now a mere statistic of the horrifying attack. 

Finally, when it seemed that everyone was saved from beneath the rubble and those with enough strength gathered enough food to consume and share, Kayle blessed it with her divine essence and so, even after a small mouthful, the mortals would feel full. As she returned to healing those who still needed it, she took note of another powerful being among those in need of help. Feeling that the other one was on the brink of exhaustion, Kayle extended her arm and shared her celestial blessing with her to boost up her spirits.
