In Star Wars Meg’s recent video “Original Star Wars Rebels Was Wild,” she states that “Sabine was going to be older. And not just this, Sabine and not Hera was supposed to be Kanan’s love interest.” (2:29)
(I’m really glad they changed that. Kanera is perfection.)
But anyway, doesn’t this mean that Sabine Wren was meant to be in a relationship with a male Jedi? That’s significant for so many reasons. First of all, the show’s creators were okay with a Jedi having a love interest, but secondly Sabine was designed to be a male character’s love interest.
Let that sink in for a moment.
They were trying to figure out what sort of character she would be. She was always a badass.
The bare midriff designs were meant to appeal to the male gaze, but are very impractical, so ultimately rejected. After all, Rebels is a family show.
Even younger Sabine’s cocked hip stance puts an emphasis on her curves and shows she’s a girl with attitude.
The younger version of Sabine that became the character that we know from Rebels is still a male Jedi’s love interest.
In Rebels canon, Sabine is an attractive teenage girl, and Ezra Bridger has definitely noticed that fact. She is his love interest.
Their story is still being told, Sabezra shippers.
Go and meditate on the Kanera and Sabezra parallels. I have spoken.
Okay because I picked up on this the second I looked through the Rebels art book (it’s painfully obvious at what point in development Hera became a love interest) but I’m rewatching season 1 rn and low key I can see how those scrapped plans effect the way Sabine is portrayed and it does bleed into Sabezra pretty obviously
(also, I kinda get the vibes that the writers just threw season 1 Sabezra together because of how development went, realized they didn’t like it, switched it for season 2, realized the two main characters were developing in way that would make a romance make sense, regretted both stages of decision, and did whatever the hell was going on between them in season 3 and 4)

Y’know, I love platonic Sabine&Ezra, and even prefer it to Sabezra, but…the appeal of Sabezra fics, for me, is that they are 100% dedicated to the idea that Sabine and Ezra are the most important people in each other’s lives, and that their trust and relationship is deep and profound and fundamentally shapes who they are as people. Which to me is the appeal of the ENTIRE dynamic in general
the thing that bothers me about this eternal and undying “they’re SIBLINGS why can’t a girl and a boy be FRIENDS you STUPID HETS” discourse is that you open up the gen tag for Sabine and Ezra and there are a good handful of really amazing fics about them, but the minute Ezra or Sabine are given a love interest, even in passing, their relationship becomes subordinate to that romantic pairing. I’m hardly going to complain about this when the fic is about the other romantic pairing because I’m not an asshole but, like, IDK, if y’all are going to actively complain everywhere about how cringy it is to ship Sabezra, put your money where your mouth is and write fics where they’re not in a romantic relationship and they still mean as much to each other as they do in the canon material. Where are the fics about Sabine and Ezra living together as platonic life partners? Do I seriously have to do everything myself???
And when it turns out that Thrawn returning to the galaxy is one of the things that causes the First Order to spring up and so Sabine inadvertently causes a galactic civil war and the death of billions because of her inability to let go of Ezra in the same way that Anakin inadvertently caused the Empire to rise because of his inability to let go of Padmè, what then?

I love how bunnies don't make any particular casual vocal sounds. Like they'll do extremely soft snuffling sounds, do that foot-drumming thing for reasons if they need to, and the only real vocalisation they ever do is a blood-curdling

I firmly believe what ever you’re obsessed with at 11/12 years old becomes a core part of who you are, regardless if you lose interest in it or not. Maybe some of you were lucky and were obsessed with warrior cats or smth, and if you’re real unlucky it was probably twilight.
