when your dad calls you by your full government name
kinda based off this post
I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?
Don't become a housewife.
And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure youāre legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partnerās assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.
If your spouse fights you on any of this, then donāt quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.
also, many women/people experience controlling behaviour and domestic violence from their partner for the first time during pregnancy. donāt risk thinking āheās just stressed, itāll get better when the baby comesā because it wonāt. neither you and your child will ever be safe with that man. get out as early and safely as you can
I knowww I seem to remember a discussion about Peetaās āmuttā programming but I canāt find it now ⦠I want all the analysis about how it works and how Katniss is able to snap him out of it ⦠the effect she has ā¦
Ughhhh I spent a stupid amount of time looking for the old reblog chain and came up empty š©
So letās do it again!
"Katniss." I jump at the proximity of the sound. Look frantically for its source, bow loaded, seeking a target to hit. "Katniss." Peeta's lips are barely moving, but there's no doubt, the name came out of him. Just when I thought he seemed a little better, when I thought he might be inching his way back to me, here is proof of how deep Snow's poison went. "Katniss." Peeta's programmed to respond to the hissing chorus, to join in the hunt. He's beginning to stir. There's no choice. I position my arrow to penetrate his brain. He'll barely feel a thing.
Suddenly, he's sitting up, eyes wide in alarm, short of breath. "Katniss!" He whips his head toward me but doesn't seem to notice my bow, the waiting arrow. "Katniss! Get out of here!"
I hesitate. His voice is alarmed, but not insane. "Why? What's making that sound?"
"I don't know. Only that it has to kill you," says Peeta. "Run! Get out! Go!"
After my own moment of confusion, I conclude I do not have to shoot him. Relax my bowstring. Take in the anxious faces around me. "Whatever it is, it's after me. It might be a good time to split up."
The Peetaās programmed-to-respond idea comes from Katniss, but I donāt know that I agree (though now I have an image of smoke coming out of Peetaās ears as his chip malfunctions during the stay-with-me kiss)
Peeta jolts awake and his first instinct is to ensure her safety: He isnāt fighting to restrain himself like I image he would be if he was under some programming. Itās more like he was having a nightmare (ooo or premonition?) about the impending danger and heās trying to pull the information through from sleep to wakefulness.
Itās also interesting to compare this instance of sleep talking to the nightmares he described before:

Theory: Hijacked Peeta Wasn't Meant to Kill Katniss
I don't think Snow wanted Peeta to kill Katniss. I think he wanted it to get REALLY close. I do believe he wanted Katniss to survive the attempt long enough to see what had become of Peeta. It was an act of mental and emotional warfare against The Mockingjay more than it was an assassination attempt. Snow knew that Peeta was going to be delivered to 13, he has some idea of how District 13 operates and therefore would know that Katniss was unlikely to be alone with Peeta. Very likely there would have been personnel around for their reunification, maybe even some cameras to record it for posterity. At minimum medical personnel to take care of Peeta's injuries from his torture. There was almost zero change they were going to be alone in a room when Peeta saw Katniss for the first time. If Snow wanted Peeta to kill Katniss, Peeta would have been whole and hearty. Fed with no lasting injuries. Not starved. Not beaten. He would have taken great, great care to heal any and all injuries. They certainly had the technology to do so. I believe that what he wanted was to tell Katniss, in no uncertain terms, "you did convince me. and now you'll never get him to love you back. he's mine to control and yours to mourn." thoughts?
never really deeped it but i guess āreal or not realā is a lot more than just peeta trying to untangle his thoughts/ his mind after his hijacking, maybe it was a representation of everlarks whole relationship. how after the first games katniss revealed that she was āpretendingā for the games and she didnāt really know if her feelings were actually there. so this wouldāve probably meant that peeta viewed everything that happened in the first games as fake so therefore he was probably very wary about all of katnissās actions throughout the victory tour and quarter quell so in a way him asking if things are real or not real is their way of confirming what pieces of their relationship the capitol forced them to have and what pieces were genuinely real to both of them throughout.
āi see you as you see yourselfā¦ā except itās hijacked peeta seeing katniss as a monster
these two instances really stick out to me for their similarities and their differences.
In Sunrise on the Reaping, we see Haymitch struggle with his inaction and what it means about his acquiescence to the Capitol. He failed to act and fight alongside someone he loved and it inspired in him a deep shame.
"Plutarch's voice taunts me. "The question is, why didn't you?" I can't say I'm not a killer anymore. That leaves brainwashed or cowardly."
As a consequence of his inaction, Maysilee (and Maritte) have made themselves direct targets of the gamemakers an act that foolishly leaves Haymitch with only one true opponent, Silka. Maysilee's death and Haymith's compliance to Capitol authority haunt the choices he makes as he prepares to play the role the Capitol demands of him, in the hopes of of keeping his remaining loved ones safe. -----
However, in Mockingjay, we see a different kind of inaction. Here is Peeta, a boy he loves - against all effort and against his better judgement. A boy he failed and abandoned to the Capitol just as surely as he abandoned his Newcomers. As he abandoned Wellie. As he abandoned his friends in District 12. All for a purpose, but all with the same sense of failure and loss. But he gets him back. He gets his boy back. And he knows what this means for the girl, even if she's too out of sorts and ill-prepared to admit it herself. In bringing Peeta back, Haymitch will get Katniss back as well. He'll have his family in one place. Safe. Away from the Capitol. Away from Snow. Away from the fire and the poison and the snakes. And then he's faced with a Peeta that is filled with Capitol poison. He sees the one thing he can't even begin to comprehend. And he freezes. And, if Boggs hadn't been there, it would have cost him everything. ---- Two entirely different moments of inaction from Haymitch. For entirely different reasons. But I feel that these two moments likely haunt him just the same.
there is some kind of twisted irony in the knowledge that, in Karniss and Peetaās first games, Katniss was analyzing and scrutinizing Peetaās every move under the lense that he was nothing but an enemy- someone whoās job is to kill her. Even in moments where she cared for him, it was always combated with a firm āno, I canāt care for him. Only one comes out. His job will be to try and kill me, and mine will be to kill him.ā
and Peeta never, not once, thought that about her. His goal was always to protect her.
but after the quarter quell, after everything for Katniss became protecting Peeta, it is now Peeta who analyzes Katnissā every move under that lense of āitās her or me. Her job is to kill me, so I have to kill her firstā, even while having to fight with himself over moments where he cares for her- where she seems to care for him.

i think my favourite thing about THG series is the fact that never once is it implied that katniss is āthe chosen oneā in any way. thereās no prophecy forcing her to be the mockingjay. itās not something that was premeditated by the rebellion.
she never even chose to become this figure, it just happened. the pressure of saving an entire country fell upon her shoulders and she was just expected to take it as a scared sixteen year old who just wanted to keep her sister safe.
it doesnāt really hit you until you pass her age and realize āwhat the actual hell.ā
canāt catch a break in this fandom weāre constantly making each other sad
this makes me think, if that were to be true, it means that katniss would be his reminder of louella and hijacked peeta was his reminder of lou lou (in a way)
mockingjay
hijacked peeta being messy as hell was unfortunately the highlight of all three books for me (followed closely by katniss being a hater)
like omg.. āyouāre a real peice of workā to katniss⦠him joking about stealing annie right in front of finnick and katniss⦠johanna making fun of peeta for talking to himself in public⦠saying he remembered a lot of ānights on the trainā in front of actually everyone at lunch⦠randomly describing in detail the torture he watched happen when literally nobody asked and then being upset when no one responds⦠pouting on a chair because katniss refused to kill him⦠saying āare you seriousā to president coin⦠somehow getting along with gale and talking about katniss when sheās two feet away from themā¦
and thats just off the top of my head HEāS TOO FUNNY

Trevor Noah interviewing Judith āBadassā Heumann
x
Iām glad so many people have discovered Judith āJudyā Heumann through this silly little gif set. I am sorry to say she has died at the age of 75. She was known as the mother of disability rights. In 1970 she sued the Board of Education to become a licensed teacher and she won. In 1977 she was one of the organizers of the 504 Sit-in, a 24 day protest for disability rights. You can learn more about her story from her book Being Heumann, the picture book Fighting for YES! or the documentary Crip Camp.
Judy Heumann believed in the inherent value of each disabled individual and would never back down on what she thought was right. Her friends and fellow activists remember her as a strong leader.

May her memory be for a blessing.
