If you’re a shipper like me, then I know what you’re thinking: Where is the Naegiri Juice from Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp?!

At this point — after five days with the game — I’ve seen some obvious teases and hints, but nothing super concrete. It’s mostly just evidence that, even in this AU, they’re still very close to one another. There’s nothing as meaty as that Ultimate Talent Development scene just yet.

But let’s go over the hints and teases that illustrate how close they are.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I’m going to be trimming down the scenes to just provide enough context to comprehend what’s going on at AND also show any of the aforementioned hints/shippy bits. I’m not going to go shot-for-shot, because many of these scenes are LONG, and most of the dialogue doesn’t directly relate to the Makoto/Kyoko relationship.

Scene 1: Shuichi and Kyoko

The two detectives share a few scenes. This one, in which Shuichi invites her to come to Kaito’s barbecue-and-fireworks beach event, has Shuichi explicitly mentioning how close Kyoko is with Naegi and Asahina. It provokes an immediate smile out of Kirigiri. 

Scene 2: Kyoko, Mahiru, and Akane

In this one, Mahiru invites Kyoko to attend some of the “girls-only” hangouts that the ladies are planning. After Kiri agrees and the others leave, she smiles as ponders who in the world dragged her out of her shell enough that she’d agree to this kind of thing. (I’ll give you ONE guess.)

Also noteworthy: In this scene, Owari mentions that Kiri is skilled in akido. (The real kind, not the “Neo” kind)

Scene 3: Makoto and Kyoko 

One of the subplots that’s connected to multiple characters’ playthroughs is the mystery of some strange photos on Mahiru’s camera. Interestingly, she asks Naegi to investigate. (I guess Koizumi has noticed his capability as an amateur sleuth?) When Kirigiri comes across him in the middle of his work, she immediately offers to help out. 

Note the awkward “I… I finished already.” Is she lying just to spend time with Makoto and/or free him from any guilt he might have over taking her away from her work?

Even more importantly, note that sweet farewell at the end. Love it.
