First of all, I´m going to say it straight: This is not a Satanic blog.

I´m not acknowledging this because of a missconception of Satanism (or Luciferism), I´ve done my investigation about it and, honestly, I think its a very interesting religion and life philosofy. I just don´t resonate with the idea of deities.

🦁 Marbas, President and Master of the Seal 🦁

Marbas (also know as Barbas) appears in the grimoire Ars Goeatia as the 5th demon, a president in Hell ruling over 36 legions of demons (”presindent” not as in country leader, but as social leader). He acts under the orders of his supperior Lucifuge Rofocale.  He shows himself either as a bat winged lion or as a human, with an imposing figure and pressence.

He is known for sharing the mechanic and handmade techniques, as is said to have the greatest knowledge in matter. He causes/ cures illnesses and transforms the shape of humans if asked, though only he decides when to return them back to normal. 

🕊 Cultural representation of demons: 🕊

The “Fallen Angel”, sculpted by Ricardo Bellver Ramón in 1885 and located in Madrid (Spain), became the first monument in Europe which portrayed a demon as the main figure.

Its is dedicated to the figure of Lucifer, representing the exact moment of his expulsion from Heaven, as he falls down to Hell. It also shows the spirit of evil (represented by the snake) and how it progressively takes power over him.

🔥 Amii, President of Fire: 🔥

Amii (also known as Amy or Avnas) holds the same position (58th) both with the Goetic Demons and the Spirits of Solomon, described in the Judeo-Christian mythology.

He was once a powerful angel, but is now a president of Hell, ruling over 36 legions of demons. He holds the intention of returning to Heaven after 1200 years, but according to Johann Weir (the demonologist who first described Amii in the writtings “Pseudomonarchia Daemonum”), that is not likely to happen.

He is a nocturnal demon, who gifts knowledge in astrology and the liberal arts. He is said to provide with excellent familiars, reveal treasures hidden by other entities, and iniciate positive reactions from rulers.

🦇 Cultural representation of Demons: 🦇

“Devilman” is an animated japanese show based on the collection of mangas written by Gō Nagai in 1972. Due to their inmense popularity and cultural impact, it managed to get a second adaptation in 2018, directed by Masaaki Yuasa.

It portrays a modern world in which demons are slowly and silently taking over the world. Akira Fudo, an average student, is convinced by his friend and investigator Ryo to form a union with one of the demons, as they believe it the only way to defeat them. 

Amon (Mammon), the demon who formes an alliance with Akira, is a well known demonic entity described in the Abrahamic Folklore. It represents wealth in its corrupted form, aswell as power and domination. The show represents these last characteristics perfectly, as he has no problem defeating the other demons, though there is no mention of his money related traits. 

Near the climax of the story (Spoiler Alert) his friend Ryo is revealed to be another folklorical demon, no other than Satan. He appears as a hermaphrodite humanoid, with porcelain features and 10 wings.

👹 Shuten- Dôji, the Demon King: 👹

Shuten- Dôji appears in many writtings of the Japanese Folklore, as one of the main demon kings. He was said to live near Kyoto, in mount Ibuki, though sometimes was placed in mount Oe. He is blamed for kidnapping and torture. 

His most famous representation was the ancient writting “Tails of mount Oe in images and words” (Oeyama Ekotoba), written in XIV A.C. It narrates the disappearances of many young woman in Kyoto, under the reign of Emperor Ichijo (986- 1011). Abe no Semei, a famous diviner, blamed the Oni King Shuten- Dôji on their misfortunes, so the Emperor ordered Minamoto no Raikô and Fujiwara no Hôshô to kill the demon.

Dressed as dark priests, they tricked the Oni in letting them stay in his house for a night. He gave them sake and started a lightful conversation, in which he showed a lot of pride and loftiness in his actions. Raikô offered the sake to which the demon fell unconcious, and used the opportunity to decapitate him. His chopped head managed to bite one of the soldiers, who was kept alive thanks to his heavy armor.

Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding in 1954, is a book about the losing of moral and sanity. It follows a group of kids who get stucked in a deserted island after a plain accident, and how they try to organize themselves as a community in order to stay alive and seek for help. However, as time passes, they progressively become more and more uncivilized, irrational and bloodthirsty.

As the title implies, it has a direct reference to Beelzebub “The lord of the flies”, tho its pressence remains ambiguous. It is never clear weather he actually exists in the book, making the kids commit horrible crimes, or is just a product of the hallucination of one of the characters. His physical body, a wild pig´s head impaled to the ground and surrounded by flies, represent this ambiguity in a perfect way. Its is built by the kids a symbol of victory, the head of their first hunted wild animal, but is also the cause of their insanity, as they acquire their need for violence with it. His physical decomposition accompanies the kids trip to madness.

  💬 Sitri, the Beautiful Prince: 💬

Sitri is said to be the 12th Goethic Demon, aswell as a high rank prince in Hell, ruling over 60/70 legions of demons. He has the ability of inducing love between men and women, specially in a sexual way, since he is a demon of lust. He can also drive people into showing their naked body or to reveal their deepest secret, in order to ridicule them.

He is theorized to be the ancient egyptian deity Seth (or Set), god of chaos and darkness. He was believed to be evil, causing the death of those who crossed his way. The most remarkable example was his beloved brother Osiris.

He is often represented with a leopard face and griffith wings, tho he can appear as a beautiful young man if desired by the summoner.

Because of his maliciousness and inmense power, it is not recomended to summon him.

🎬 Cultural representation of demons: 🎬

The film Gozu (made by Takahashi Miike in 2003) narrates the decline to madness of Minami, a young yakuza who is told by his superiors to drive his closest friend to their main location, where he will find his inminent death.

During this lunatic experience, he will be visited by the ancient japanese demon Gozu, who is said to cause destruction whenever his name or image is portrayed.

🍎 Lilith, the first woman, mother of demons: 🍎

Lilith appears as a character in the Old Testament. She was created as the first woman alongside with Adam, the first man, before the creation of Eve. She wasn´t formed by Adam´s rib, like Eve, but as an image and likeness of God, an equal to her male partner.

She decided to abandon the Garden of Eden because of a disagreement with both God and Adam: she didn´t want the submissive role that was forced to adopt, specially during sexual intercourse. She is theorized to be the snake who tempted Eve.

After that, she setted up in the Red Sea, where she started a romantic affair with Asmodeus (Samael), and progressively became a demon herself. She was punished by God to watch the death of her first hundred children, so as an act of revenge, began stealing the uncircumcised newborns and raising them into demons, known as “Lilims”.

She is often portrayed as a winged, beautiful woman, with pale skin and ginger hair.
