Bradley James’ Arthur is just such a perfect Arthur. There’s smth about him playing Arthur, in the sense that he has this tough-guy demeanor, but there’s also smth tragic about him, as if he can never truly realize himself, and he’s stuck in this liminal tough-guy masculine space, often or forever locked out of the access to his real emotions and expressing them and ability to connect with others. He connects to Merlin through a tough-love dynamic, because that’s the closest he can get to Merlin. And Merlin understands that. He meets Arthur where he’s at, even if at times it’s painful for him. 💔💔 That’s why their relationship is tragic but I still love it to death. At times they do break through. And they’d both sacrifice their lives for one another.
