There had been a time when the boy in front of her had annoyed the hell out of her. Every word out of his mouth elicited a roll of the eyes and a pursing of the lips from her, but now. Now she looked at his whole face lighting up and couldn’t help when her expression mirrored his. Now she saw his whole body straighten- lean and lithe, muscles tighten under the skin on his forearm, and all she wanted to do was kiss him.
“I wanted to surprise you,” she said, putting her hands on his face. Mackenzie smiled brightly when he kissed her, biting her lip when he pulled away too quickly. “Did I see your eyes glowing? Did I scare you?”
Jake couldn't stop smiling. He was just so glad to see her after it has been so long since he saw her last. It sucked that she went to school so far away, but it made these little meet ups all worth the while. “That’s so mean. I actually thought you weren't coming.” Jake chuckled to himself.
“No!” his face scrunched up and a slight pink came to his cheeks. “I was just caught off guard is all.”
