your WIPS are neat

I already posted this on my main blog, but I’m quitting tumblr. Nothing really happened to force me to quit, but as I’m sure many of you are aware, this site can be really toxic in a lot of different ways, and I don’t want to put myself through it daily. The only blog I’ll ever update is a cosplay sideblog for me and my boyfriend Tony, which won’t even be till later this year since our next con is Katsucon.

But anyway,

To anyone and everyone reading this, you will be great, so don’t give up if you feel defeated. If you’re stressed about how something looks while it’s in progress, remember that the final outcome will come out a lot better! Don’t beat yourself up over it. Even if you ran out of time and forgot a detail or two and you feel sad about it, please don’t fret because people will still be happy to see you and see your character cosplayed! Remember that there will always be people who think your stuff is really neat. Whether it’s your first costume, or you’re a 10 year cosplaying veteran, always be proud of the work and love you put into your cosplay.

How to make a Sailor Cosmos skirt:

1. Choose your fabric and threads. For this I used a poly satin and embroidery threads.

2. Pleat your fabric. Use a ruler and fashion tape to mark out the placement of the rays. 

3. I used masking tape to determine the width of each ray. 

4. I marked the rays on masking tape, placed it on top of tissue paper, and cut it out to make a pattern.

5. Interface satin ribbons with fusible interfacing and transfer pattern to each ray.

6. Cut each ribbon, then satin stitch down with corresponding embroidery thread. 

7. Sew up your skirt and you’re done! 

The Diablo Monk’s boots are almost done! I am very happy with how these turned out. They’re much more comfortable than Tyrael’s boots, partially because I knew what I was doing with the rigging this time around and partially because I knew not to put Apoxie Sculpt in areas that need to flex. I really love this new technique where I’m using fabric to “paint” the armor. Here, you can see what the boots look like “unpainted” and “painted.” It makes a huge difference.

No makeup or thigh highs, but I’m so happy that the skirt arrived in time! Ill be wearing this outfit on day 4 of Anime Expo! Gatchaman Crowds cosplayers, if you’re out there, come to me!

2 or 3 hours and a lot of bobby pins and hairspray later and I can confidently say it was at least better then my first attempt(done in 1 hour in a hotel room).

It’s not that great(in my opinion) but It has the added benefit that it can be taken down for Sabers more casual hairstyles if I really wanted to. 

Magnet connection is working out fairly well so far for the skirt armor. Easy to slip on and off. Going to need to add more.
