Yeah so the Big Think is literally owned by big oil. They’re making shit up so people feel too exhausted to fight for any change. Ignore this kind of environmental nihilism, all it does it help the rich avoid change.
Apathy is used as a tool to extinguish initiative. Apathy is fomented by equivocation, fear, anxiety, and appeals to complexity (“Its really too complicated! We’ll take care of it.”) If you’re too tired, sad, or anxious to act, you will not challenge the paradigm dictated by previous generation. Conservatives fight to maintain the status quo because it serves them. ( I am not anti-conservatism, but against what hides behind the term–often self serving hypocrisy and sociopathology) Media is controlled by those who sign pay checks. We can change the way society consumes, but this will require those in power to alter their modus operandi. And that’s harder than flooding the media with messages that undercut rational and informed discussion of the issues. Be conservative (reduce, reuse, recycle, conserve resources)in the way you live. Be progressive in what you ask your government to do (fight exploitation and abuse of disenfranchised, rebuild the infrastructure that serves society, force the release of money hoarded billionaires).
