Elijah had just finished his shift at the cafe when he decided decided to browse the stacks for a while. It had been fairly fortuitous that heâd managed to get a job at the coffee shop inside the New York Public Libraryâs Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, and it was the kind of benefit he rarely let go to waste.Â
Technically speaking, he really should have returned home; he had a term paper to write and heâd left all his materials laid out neatly across his desk in his dorm room. And if he didnât get home before his drunken frat-boy roommate, Carl, it was likely to all go to shit like a tornado had blown through entirely unchecked.Â
But, he couldnât go home quite yet. Because: she was here. Issy. That was the name she always gave wth her order.  From the moment he saw her, he was pretty much hooked. Heâd find himself staying late, picking up extra shifts, just for the chance to get a glimpse of her. She was⌠gorgeous. And though heâd never gotten up the nerve to talk to her - not beyond stumbling over her order at the cafe - he could just tell that she was smart. And kind. And boy, was he screwedâŚÂ
He was hoping he might maybe come across her, work up the nerve to finally say something - hopefully intelligent; probably not⌠He was so distracted looking off, trying to come up with the right thing to say should he say it, that he wasnât even paying attention as he turned a corner, crashing right into⌠her.Â
âOh, crap! Sorry! I, uhâŚ. hiâŚâÂ
It was as if Issy hadn't just handed one paper in, as she was already at the public library attempting to research the next. The girl was incredibly excited about her next paper, as it was all to do with the legitimacy of prehistoric research findings, and how trustworthy they were. Throwing her coffee cup away, she thought briefly back to the guy who'd served her. He always seemed to be there, funnily enough. In the little coffee shop within her favourite place, second only to home.
Though her attention was quickly redirected towards the shelves where she found the perfect book - the one she'd been looking for. It had a majority of the information she'd researched online, but she much preferred to reference the book and author itself. Her father, in fact, had a large proportion of the books and research papers that she needed to complete her paper, but she didn't exactly want a visit home to his precious wife and her step sister.
Issy rolled her eyes at the thought of it, before turning towards the end of the aisle, opening the book to one of the random pages and.. running smack bang into someone who was turning the corner. Her book fell from her hands and as she reached down to get it she heard him utter the word hi. A smile covered her lips as she stood and readjusted her glasses. "Hi.. Elijah, isn't it?" Issy narrowed her eyes a little, glancing down to his name badge before meeting his own eyes. He was cuter, up close.
