Zak stood silently before her, listening to every word she had to said. His posture flickered a bit as she came to the end, an apology falling from her lips. He shook his head, and with a step forward, he placed a hand down upon the surface of the counter that separated them. âI would like to believe that Iâm not an overly jealous person, Isobel. Iâd like to believe that I could trust whoever I am with to be upfront with me. And quite frankly, Iâm not a moron. Guys are going to stare, they are going to comment, they are going to try and touch you, and they are going to try and pick you up. I know this, and depending on the level of the situation, I canât promise that my fist wonât meet their jaw.â He began to explain to her, dark hues resting firmly upon her features. âBut whatâs most important to me, is knowing that the person Iâm with isnât going to go for it. That I can trust them not to make a complete and utter goddamn fool of me.â His words werenât particularly aimed at the girl, in fact, she hadnât done really anything wrong for them to be. He was simply voicing his stand in the matter, and after the disaster that was his relationship with Annabelle, heâd be damned if heâd put himself in a position where he could so easily be dropped. âIâm a very one woman kind of guy, nor would I have the time for it to be more than one. When Iâm for you, I am for you. There is no one else. And Iâll be the one if you want me to, but do you â want the same old thing? Because Iâm not quite sure that you do.â He told her, âIâm into more than just the pretty face, and the sex. Are you?â
Isobel couldnât deny that the idea of his fist meeting someone elseâs face wouldnât appease her, especially if said person had been bothering her. The idea of a strong man who could defend his woman had always been one she quite enjoyed, and it was for that reason that a smile crept on her face when he mention how he would probably hit anyone who came after her. Nevertheless, she knew to keep that curl of her lip fixated there for too long given the turn of their conversation. When he approached, the brunette listened and allowed him both the time and space to speak before her mouth opened. âIt was never that and you know it wasnât. We hadnât talked about where we were going and we were having just sex. I mean, we hadnât had some kind of intense talk about our future and where we were going. It wasnât me trying to go behind your back. But if you want what I want, than I only want you.â The last sentence escaped softly as it pained her, mostly because she hadnât ever been one to talk about sentiment and feelings. Much less when it came into relationships. Never had she found someone that made her intrigued about those kind of possibilities. Her gaze dropped for a moment when he told her that maybe she didnât want the same thing. The matter was that she couldnât be certain because she was afraid. What if she got so close to someone and they would just walk away. âIâm scared,â the brunette voiced in a panic. Unable to meet his gaze right now. âIâve never done this, and never even wanted to before you came along. But the reason was because I donât want to get hurt. And this, it scares the living shit out of me. Itâs not because I donât want it, Zak, itâs because Iâm scared. I want you, this, us.â She swallowed thickly, only managing to peer up at him. âBut what if this ends in a disaster?â Slowly, the brunette made her way around the island, standing in front of him. âBut I also donât want you to walk out of my life either. So what do I do?â
