Late afternoon light revealed one of the Grand Canyon's most compelling qualities: its immense depth. From the Desert View Watchtower, the canyon unfolded in a succession of shadowed mesas and distant buttes, each receding into softer shades of blue. Atmospheric haze dissolved fine detail and emphasized form, turning the landscape into a layered tapestry of silhouettes. As the sun drifted lower, the contrast between light and shadow deepened, and the canyon seemed to stretch endlessly toward the western horizon.
