Aemon Targaryen was born in King's Landing in 86 AC. He was the third son of Prince Baelon Targaryen and his sister-wife, Alyssa, during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Aemon had two older brothers, Viserys and Daemon. His relationship with his brothers was good during childhood; the three felt like one and would kill for each other if necessary. With his arrival, there was a dragon waiting for him; unfortunately, after the death of his father, King Jaehaerys, his dragon named Vermithor remained without a rider for many years and stayed hidden in a cave on Dragonmount, waiting for Aemon to be old enough to become the rider. Vermithor is an imposing dragon, with bronze scales, orange eyes, and black horns. His presence symbolizes power and destruction, and his alliance is crucial for any side in the war. At the right age, Aemon became Vermithor's rider; for him, it was much more than just a dragon, it was like an elder son. Vermithor was one of the largest dragons of his time and, at the time of the Targaryen civil war, was nearly a hundred years old.

Aemon had a turbulent adult life. His eldest brother being the king made it hard to deal with favoritism and the duty to the crown, but that didn’t stop him from enjoying his nights out. He associated with some girls from pleasure houses and some who threw themselves at him, begging for his attention, but all this fun had one name in his thoughts, Saera. Saera Targaryen, his niece, daughter of Viserys. Aemon was always attached and obsessed with her since her birth; he held her as a newborn when he was twelve and said that no one in the world would ever harm her physically or mentally, and if anyone dared, he would slit their throat. At twenty-eight, he married Saera, continuing the Targaryen lineage by marrying his niece. The marriage was good; they loved each other and were loyal above all, despite Aemon's obsession with his niece, wanting to be by her side with every step she took, protecting her from the pressures of the realm. They also had children like Visenya Targaryen II, Aegon Targaryen IV, Aeron Targaryen, and Viserra Targaryen II, all raised wisely.

After the death of his brother Viserys, Aemon grew closer to Daemon, joining him in the army in support of Aegon, Saera's brother. Although he was a great soldier, Aemon was gravely wounded and became sterile after many battles, which left him exhausted and hungry but still capable of killing many men. While interrogating another by strangulation, he discovered that a group of soldiers had planned to kill all of Alicent's daughters in their hiding place. He immediately mounted Vermithor, burning all the soldiers wandering towards the hideout, but he still made sure to go there to check. However, one soldier was holding the daughters hostage. Aemon ran towards the man pointing a sword at Saera's heart. They rolled on the ground, exchanging punches and kicks while hearing Saera's cries. The soldier managed to reach his sword and plunged it into Aemon's stomach, making him spew blood from his mouth. But even wounded, Aemon gathered all his remaining strength and threw the soldier down a slope where he was burned alive. Aemon's thought was to ensure Saera and her sisters were safe, then he would return to fight in the war, but he had lost too much blood, and the sword wound was deep in his stomach, almost piercing through to the other side. He fell to the ground and leaned into Saera's lap, almost closing his eyes. He raised his hand to wipe away Saera's tears, then his eyes closed, and his breath was no more. This was the end, the end of Aemon Targaryen, in the arms of his beloved.
