a friend asked if my mother knew about my smoking. i said yes and he reminded me how i used to used to hate her. i said i dont anymore. he asked “youve changed?”

im turning 20 next year and im scared. ive not known a life where i hadnt been young. i was young in all the lives i lived before. i flew across the sky with a heart so boastful of its youth that it didnt see what the new ages would bring. my heart doesnt know how to function in a body so old and unfit for mimicking childlike joy.
