Structures
The structure for the house top glass and stand
The stand leg
Design Process & Draft
The first idea is to see what I can do with circle and round structure through referencing the culture of Chinese traditional art and Fantasy art.
Physical Model making
This is the attempt of making the physical model to see the result of this structure works or not. It is not very detailed.
Materials
The reason of why I select these materials is a attempt of applying modern architecture materials on the traditional (out of date) structures.
Biomimetic Architecture
Biomimetic structures is widely used in architecture for the few decades. According to Anzgeka Zakharchuk (Bionics in architecture), ' Architectural and bionic practice gave rise to the new and unusual architectural forms which are useful from functional and practical point of view and original in their aesthetic qualities'.

Ideate - Movable House
Movable House is the concept for the impossible and fantasy structure. In brief, it simulate the shape of jellyfish by stracking roundhouse structure and applies several cultural code from Chinese bronze art for the legs and protrude terraces. In the context of fantasy and surrealism, I imagine this house is a moving house with adjustable height and storey. The reason of designing this is not only about put the traditional architecture in the future context, it is also about meeting the future circumstances and aim to increase the awareness of protecting nature, which environment destroyed that people need to move from places to places to live. This is the future home and shelter that have legs to take people to different locations.
Structure - Umbrella
The skelecton of Chinese Umbrella is the reference of the structure of top glass on the house concept. It provides clear idea of how the support the glasses for housetop, which will be divided into 8 pieces and links to each other.
Inspirations- JacekYerka and Hayao Miyazaki
Reference Structures - Jellyfish
As mentioned in the previous section, the concept of movable house applies the idea of jellyfish on the shape, with the long legs support the major strcuture. The reason of using jellyfish is because the opportunities of combination of this structure to roundhouse in the context of modern aesthetic.
Chinese traditional Bronze
These bronze objects are from Chinese Bronze Age Culture (Ancient Chinese Bronzes 2017). As the movable house is simulating animal, the shape of 'eyes' and 'legs' are originally referencing from these bronze objects. Moreover, it is also a reference for the material of eave in the fantasy structure concept.

Round Structure
Case study- Hakka Round House
The word of Hakka represent a groups of people who migrate from the north to Chinese Southern provinces. Round house is their cultural code in architecture. However, from 90s, this mold of architecture is no longer be built as its out of date which is not able to satisfy people's needs. The reason I select roundhouse as the majority in my concept is to explore the possibilities and opportunities of applying this type of construction in modern and future architecture, and also for increasing people's awareness. In the concept, the major structure is referencing roundhouse by using modern materials and brings to fantasy context. This type of architecture will be simplified as an element for moving and stacking.
Unbound by gravity, the need for structural soundness or any sense of real-world aesthetics, architecture becomes like a life form of its own, multiplying and mutating in strange and unsettling way…
Surrealism, fantasy and futurism are originally from Dadaism, which is an art movement in early 20th. The core idea of dada is uncanny, revolt and subversiveness of reality.
Inspirations
Dadaism is an art movement from 1916 to 1924 at the period of World War I, which is the origin of Surrealism, Futurism and Fantasy Art. The core idea of this art is mocking society, materialistic, nationalistic and against the war (Dada Movement- Artists and Major Works 2017). Although Dada didn't last for a long period, the influence was wide and huge. At the year of 1924, Surrealism was inaugurated, which is about dream-world, imagination, mysteries and reject reality and logic (Dada and Surrealism 2007). Fantasy Architecture is one of the forms impacts by these art movement. The following architects are found from the collection of Fantasy Architecture 1500-2036 2004.
1. Gostischer Dom am Wasser -- K.F.Schinkel (German)
2 Carl Laubin
3 Tower of London ---- Emily Allchurch
Emily Allchurch is another artist impacts on my concept. The heap up of buildings around london to create another sense of 'tower' and meaning of 'city'. The idea of stacking constractions to create a new construction inspires me on the shape of my movable house, which is also a stacking house. In addition, the other artisits such as Carl Laubin and Neil Bingham brings the idea of reshaping the houses and the use of simple, pure shape.
4 Setting No.3 -- Emily Allchurch
(The idea that about global warming)
5 Krim house 1972 --- Leon Krier
6 etienne-louis boullee -- Neil Bingham
7 Gonzaler
8 Peter Cook and Colin Fournier
Peter Cook is a British architect, who is the chair of global architectural world at 20th centery. The image is his Art Gallery in Graz. From my point of view, this construction simulates the shape of a whale. It looks like a whale swimming in the city, which is highly impressive and offers the sense of mystery to the audiences. It breaks through the limitation of conventional constructions and drives on shaping the picture of architecture design. The combination of animal and construction inspires me at this stage. Similar example can be found from Jacek Yerka's work, who is a Fantasy art illustrator. The characteristic of his works is to bring more possibilities of objects - combine different things together, such as anmial with buildings and cars, boat with buildings, tree with houses and ect. This idea influences to my concept, which is a combination of jellyfish and house.
Brief Sketch for the idea
As I still need to learn about impossible structure, these graphics might not be used. This is just my very first version about the endless and twisty stairs.

The twisty and endless stairs is my idea of the impossible structure which hidden in the object. In regards to twisty and endless, the pattern of sea wave attract my interests. In particular the sea wave pattern in Japanese Art.

Case Study - Stairs Structure
These are the images of stairs design which can also be references for my project.
Stairs can be a incredible element to create impossible structure. These are some of the example of the use of stairs in architecture design to improve the appearance of building.
I love the idea of moving staircases. As in my project I also consider the impossible structure is moved by time changing in the idea of using clock.
