A cat is a small creature in the middle of the food chain that is fully aware that you are a very large thing that could stomp its head in at any moment and yet it chooses to rest its tiny little head on your leg for a nap and spreads out on the floor near you exposing its belly and its most sensitive organs. It brings dead mice and bugs to you to share food.

Don’t you get it? This tiny thing trusts you. It wants to help you too. It licks your leg thinking that it’s helping. It kneads on you to find comfort. It shares its body warmth with you in the cold and gives you your space in the heat. It hisses at other mammals it sees outside including other cats in an effort to protect its family.

Voice notes from my 14 year old cousin in Sudan. She left her home in Khartoum in April and has been living in a crowded house in the desert with all her relatives. Every week or so she sends me a message with a broken heart. Her life has stopped. She can't go to school. She can't see her friends and family. She feels like she has no future. She was a writer. She barely writes anymore.

I've translated and transcribed it below

"I'm better than yesterday but the feeling of pain, loss, and void is still there. Everyone I love isn't next to me. And the ones who are are uncomfortable and in pain. There's nothing to contribute to any form of happiness or normality. I don't even need to be happy. Just no pain and sadness. To live normally. There's nothing to give any sense of comfort or hope. How am I supposed to stay patient? How? That one day we'll go back? In a month? There's nothing. Nothing. And this is aside from the stories we hear. Khartoum is already destroyed. Jazeera is being destroyed right now. So many stories of rape, people being slaughtered and beheaded, girls getting kidnapped, people burned alive, people getting robbed. Nothing to comfort or give me hope. Praise be to Allah. Praise be to Allah."

Today, Dr. Hani Al-Haitham, head of the Shifa Hospital's emergency department, was murdered, along with his wife, Dr. Sameera Ghifari, & their 5 children: Shireen, Tia, Sameer, Wafa & Sara.

After Israeli social media shared these videos and they got viral, they tried claiming these men were hamas members, THEY ARE NOT. They're civilians who were displaced with their families in shelters before Israeli soldiers abducted them.

Families are recognizing their brothers/fathers/grandfathers and sons by the videos shared here. They already executed a number of them.
