I dont think is an obscure fact that yoka ni mitorete has lyrics from the song written on its jacket. Another ena comm also has a neat secret on its jacket: in sono e no namae wa, kanji for the word "painting" 絵 stands really close to the kanji of the word "name" 名. These kanji together form Ena's name – 絵名
I kinda want to cross post some bigger texts that I have and didnt become twitter threads (they are in google docs and been posted but i dont think lots of people saw them) but theres 1) not a lot of them 2) it will look like im e-begging to notice me here................desicions decisions
Good friends listen to what you have to say
A long long time ago (two years) I made a literary analysis analysis for Coral, looking into its lyricism and usage of literary devices. Twitter threads aren't a good place to archive long texts so I want to cross post it here because it's still one of those things I personally feel proud of (even though it probably needs some additions and edits. Maybe someday in future, when I'll become jobless).
In its untouched, unedited form — here it is. Tumblr audience usually way more meticulous so please be kind and gentle if you find any mistakes or silly things. Im just a little guinea pig car....
I will be referring to a «person singing» as a «lyrical hero» and not as «Nene» (the context of «canary» isn’t very important here, so I apologize profusely).
Coral is interesting because it sounds like a melancholic but also like a sweet summer song. Yet the lyrics are surprisingly bitter and upsetting: they are about deep disappointment in oneself and how it "sinks you deep down".
«kasuka ni obiete iru» is curiois line due to grammar structure, it uses te-iru verb form. It is comparable to the present continues in English or a «state of something». The hero isn’t just scared by uncertainty in this instance — they are constantly fearful of the unknown.
«amaeta» is a past form of the verb «amaeru». The sentence is translated as «I relied on the sound of the waves a bit». But «amaeru» is a curious choice as not only it translates as «to depend on something» but also as «to behave like a spoiled child».
So, the hero isn’t just looking for comfort in waves, they are childishly clinging to them, trying to hide from the scary and mean world around them.
There are a lot of things happening in the chorus. Assonance in vowels makes it sound more resonant [a - o - ZORA - no - o -wa - ri -to - yo - ZORA -to, a lot of [o] sound actually].
Using the word «dadai» to describe colour, but this orange doesn’t bring the warmth of a summer sun, it brings bitter memories of a past that is impossible to change. この歌を歌って 私 進んでいけるかな the usage of the grammar form «kana» here works as a Chekhov’s gun. It makes the sentence feel uncertain, as «kana» can be translated as «I wonder». The hero asks a question here, and they will answer it later.
«tadayotte» means to float, which fits the water motif of the song. But it also means to wander, to falter. The hero isn’t purposefully searching for meaning/purpose/dream/something. They are wandering not knowing why and where, and in the end, they let sea waves take them anywhere, floating on the water's surface. They are a captain of no ship, and they have no destination — the hero can do nothing but aimlessly float, waiting to hit *something*. 苦しくて辛くて悩んで. The progression is: “It’s painful, it’s difficult, it’s troubling. As a separate kanji and not a verb form, these words are connected to the notion of “pain”: 苦 means pain/suffering, 辛い can be read both as “karai” (spicy), or “tsurai” (painful). 悩 means “to be worried” but can also mean “to be in anguish”.
この歌を歌えないままで沈み続けるだけ. A callback or a response of sorts to この歌を歌って 私 進んでいけるかな
だけ means “only”, and it’s positioned at the end of the sentence, meaning that it is the only thing they can do is to “only sink and nothing else”. So the hero hits their low.
«Can I sing this song?»
«I can’t. I can only sink deeper and deeper, blaming everything on anyone else but myself»
And then there's a crescendo happening
It’s the same as the first chorus except for the last two lines.
この歌を歌って私
良いかな
“Will it be okay if I’ll continue singing this song?”
Despite the pain and anguish, the hero wants to get back to the surface, because singing this song is their whole life.
the last verse is a surprisingly bright one. The memories of the past makes the hero push forward. The fact that they happened led them to becoming who are they right now and despite anything, they will continue smiling and singing=>singing as a metaphor to living (MY CORN ERA)
This is where where I would have put screenshots of last chorus and also a pretty picture to make a nice ending. But I hit the limit of 10 pictures and I dont know how to delete old ones!!!!! I feel like a grandma!!!!! Im fallen!! And I cant get up!!!
Coral is a beautiful song

what's wild to me is that everyone, including people who dont really care about vbs much, seems to agree that an's character design is awesome. even though literally none of it makes ANY sense.
she has
blue hair, but it's periwinkle, not turquoise
multiple shades of green in her outfit (also not turquoise) (one of them is a cool green which is at least kinda close if substantially greener than her image color. but the lime green on the headphones? huh???)
amber eyes, and Yellow stars (not even remotely the same shade)
yellow hairclip which fits and also a light purple one. That goes with literally nothing she's wearing. Sure! Why not!
and yet everyone with eyes looks at her and goes yeah this is peak.
it could have been us but you are too scared to open yourself to a lesbian strife and lay your soul bare for my blade of yearning to pierce through you and bathe in your golden blood, blessing me with your everlasting essence
Get behind me trans ppl i will protect you!

What does a Church and a Rap Battle venue have in common?
If you ever attended a seminar dedicated to Victor Hugo’s ‘The Hunchback of Notre-Dame’ it is possible that you were asked this question:
‘Who is the main character of the novel?’
Most people, usually, answer: “the Hunchback!” or, a more meticulous answer, ‘Quazimodo’. It makes sense: his name is on the cover of the novel (that is, if you only read the English version), Disney made him a protagonist, the Broadway show also made him a protagonist. He is what people imagine first when they think about this novel.
But it’s not quite right, is it? Hunchback isn’t the only character whose point of view the reader can witness in the book. Even in adaptations, while an important figure and a character that moves the plot, his story isn’t the only one being focused on. There’s Esmeralda — a Romani woman, derided and hated by the public simply because of her origin, who, nevertheless, ends up being the purest character, almost saintly and closer to God. There’s Frollo, who is plagued by his sinful urges. Pierre Gringoire, a poet and another competitor for Esmeralda’s affections. They are all major characters, all drive the plot and none truly takes priority in the narrative. So who is the real main character of the novel?
It’s the Cathedral.
The original name did have the word “Hunchback”, it was just called “Notre-Dame de Pairs”. The word “hunchback” was added by translators, much to Hugo’s anger, who believed that this name muddled the meaning of his work. Because the novel wasn’t really intended to be about people of France and their tragedies, it was about the Cathedral — the imposing figure that is always at the centre of all important events. The building that towers above you and acts like a constant reminder of a divine judgement, the Sanctuary for the poor and battered and the last thing the prisoner sees before their exception, as they repent in front of Notre-Dame. Many characters die at the end of the novel or meet an undignified end and only Norte-Dame remains — untarnished and noble, timeless building that remembers the stories that happened long ago
So how does a French novel from the 19th century that was devoted to preserving the history and heritage of a cathedral have to do with Vivid Bad Squad from the lucrative game Project Sekai? On the surface, there’s nothing connecting the two. But if we dig into themes and such, we will see one common thing they share.
Vivid Street is also A Character. And a major one as well.
Vivid Street is quite literally a street inside a small town that has it’s own identity and rules. It can be intimidating, especially to people who come here without knowing how things work in this place. Just like Notre-Dame, Vivid Street isn’t 'just a place'. It’s a stage for many important events to happen. The birth of RADders. LIttle An started to sing and introduce herself to the community, becoming a part of the city. RAD WEEKEND happened, becoming Nagi’s swan song. Sekai formed after Akito and Toya became partners. Vivid Street gave a reason for many characters to find their dreams and follow them until the bitter end. Just like Notre-Dame, the place isn’t a silent witness — it inspires, it moves, it trains, it helps you find your talents and hone them. And what’s most important, it connects people.
What is important to note, from my perspective at least, is that Vivid Street doesn’t ‘act’ the same as Norte-Dame. Notre-Dame acts by itself, its greatness is enough to communicate both with other characters and with the reader. It doesn’t need an arbiter because it has enough might in itself to relay its message by just simply existing. Vivid Street is different, it communicates through the community. If Vivid Street is hostile and suspicious of newcomers, the people will act suspicious as well, mocking even. This is exactly what happened to Akito when he performed for the first time at Crawl Green. But the Street can also be kind and supportive, it never forgets a person and a good deed done so it also repays in kind.
The connections created here are quite important as well, because they tend to change people and, sometimes, their whole lives. Kohane managed to change herself and finally fight her shyness and fright after seeing An singing on the street. It was a fateful encounter for both of them. For Akito and Toya, Vivid Street gave them new reason to work for, a new dream they can strive for, bringing fire to their bleak lives. It’s an antipode to Norte-Dame, that doesn’t inspire but it makes one repent and reflect. One is a judgemental figure but it is truly just and impartial. Vivid Street can be harsh and unfair, it can lie and say hurtful things, but it is also compassionate and accepting.
There are other important places that function as some sort of symbolic anchor for some units. For Leo/need it’s a playground and a jungle gym — a symbol of their childhood and connection, a place where they will always come back no matter anything, it’s a symbol of their untreatable bond. For Wonderlands x Showtime it’s Wonder Stage — a drafty old stage on the outside that holds many memories, a place of acceptance, a place where a bunch of outcasts finally felt welcomed, a home for a family of weirdos that found each other by chance. Vivid Bad Squad story is unique because they have Vivid Street as their starting point, as a place of inspiration, and as a figure that haunts the narrative. The memories of Nagi remain here and people honour them by doing what Nagi loved the most — singing and connecting with people. Accepting and teaching new faces.
The screenshots are from next event stories in order of appearance: Vivid Old Tale, Kick it Up a Notch! and OVER RAD SQUAD!! First two translations are borrowed from the official localisation on Global Server, the over rad squad translation is done by lozy bug, crossposted on sekaipedia and YouTube.
not that I deliberately looked but I happened to notice that clpl modeled the slit on Rin's new costume model between her toe an the rest of her foot. so like, a traditional tabi socks made specifically to wear with geta. Its a really funny attention to detail like I guess japanese audience would have noticed that she doesn't wear proper socks and make a fuss about it but I can't help but giggle – where was such meticulous attention when they were modelling Toyas new lim

We should start doing this for all artists actually
New ny set is oni themed and in traditional art – oni is a fearsome monster that eats people and terrorises settlents. In folklore tales like Momotaro-monogatari oni are brute and stupid, making them also a figure of ridicule.
In more modern versions, oni turned into someone less frightening and more sympathetic and, what's important, quite loyal creatures. Its mostly thanks to the story "Red Oni Who Cried".
The tales didnt just establish a new media trope of "Red Oni, Blue Oni", it also reinvented their character, turning onis into michevious race who want to have fun and have lots of friends but they are ostracised by humans out of fear. Hence the crying – Red Oni is very sad and lonely and Blue Oni wants to help his friend. So he pretends to ve the evil monster to make the Red one "fight" and shoo him off, to become the hero.
