empathetic even if others have harmed him, apologetic-- again even if the person has harmed him, careful both in planning and with the handling of things/objects, calculating-- he won't take risks unless backed into a corner or pushed to do it, defensive of himself and can be loud and aggressive about it, however, is more likely to freeze when encountering something terrifying than respond with aggression first, intelligent even when he may not seem to be to others around him, emotional & open to how he feels and what he wants, could be a little silly but he's almost never comfortable enough for it. (his reaction to the eel was to tell it not to worry about him and pretend he wasn't there. he pats inanimate objects as if to comfort them or say good job)

The Eye in the Sky & Simon

Simon encounters The Eye. A God that has torn open the fabric of time, space, and reality to peer through. This is partially what causes the Quiet Rapture. In it’s home the Red Void, it has a short exchange with him. “I see you.” “I see you.” “Agreed.” and then Simon is suddenly back in the SM-13. He coughs up a lot of blood. 

For the purposes of this blogs lore, this is the pivotal sequence where the Eye has made a deal with him. It attaches a piece of itself to him. Allowing itself to experience more of the universe from a human’s perspective instead of just looking around from the tears is makes. In return his desire to live is granted. The following events of the movie play out as normal.

Except once the SM-13 is in the Eel’s jaws and the blood leaking in is attempting to assimilate Simon like it has done to others, the Eye takes over and heals all of the damage done to him. Regenerating his arm, fixing the majority of the mutations. It causes the left side of his mouth’s teeth to become sharp, strange lines to form on his neck and chest, and his left eye to change color. It sees out of this eye.

The eye is what keeps the oxygen from running out. And should Simon find himself outside of the SM-13, the lines would open up, revealing themselves to be mouths lined with sharp teeth. They allow him to survive in any liquid without air for however long he is submerged.

Once he is free of the blood ocean, Simon sometimes can’t control himself. The Eye will attempt to get a better look at some things, keeping him in once place or moving him around like a puppet. It has a good sense of when someone or something is being or intends to be hostile with Simon and so if attacked it will instantly & temporarily change Simon’s upper left body to protect it’s vessel. Simon’s entire left arm, half of his chest and half of his face will become reddish in color, the left eye’s color will become more intense, the false gill mouths with open, and the left side of his jaw will split open to reveal the sharp teeth.

It can change the shape and density of Simon’s arm at will, to attack with. The Eye will return Simon’s body to how it was beforehand after every incident. The eye rarely ever speaks to Simon, preferring to observe his surroundings. He may hear faint whispers near blood or large bodies of water.

The eye can feel anything that Simon feels as a consequence to inhabiting a portion of his body. This is the main reason it counters hostility. Otherwise it wouldn't care what happened to Simon as long as he was still able to be moved around by it.

The mutation of his body does make Simon think about consuming blood, but unless he's reduced to extreme starvation, he can resist that urge.

The flashbacks that show Simon as a child ( 12 according to my math and when the quiet rapture happened ), with blood on his hands and surrounded by bodies… I believe that implies that Eden forced him to kill all of the other cult children.

Probably had them all fight each other or something to that effect. I'm sure the adults would have started killing them if they didn't want to cooperate. Ensures that the strongest child survives to fight for their cause, that there are fewer mouths to feed, and the other children return to the soil for the tree preemptively.

It probably came down to which child wanted to live the most. Which happened to be Simon. I like to believe that his mother encouraged him to live, despite their beliefs after the quiet rapture.

/// Simon's hands are rough from many years of both manual labor and combat. Despite being calloused and rough, Simon is (almost) always soft and gentle with them in the act of handling objects and devices.

He is steady, firm, and careful with them as well whenever he needs to be hands on with something. Like marking things on paper or turning a dial, pushing a lever.

There is blood on his hands, however not blood he spilled willingly. Only for survival. As a result I believe he tries his best to handle everything with care. He wouldn't want to use his hands to hurt anyone else unless he really had to.
