It wasn’t often that Nguyen was permitted out of Rome. This, however, was a special occasion; Talon had caught air of something brewing thick within Numbani. Resistance sparked by anguish and fear mingled, claws and teeth brandished amid the aftermath of Akande’s barrage. Eyes that were wet with grief now glittered with anger.

Now, this wasn’t alarming by itself. Talon was a terrorist organisation, after all, and they’d faced sundry resistances before. What was alarming was that there had been a digital footprint which suggested that OR-15 robots were being salvaged and utilised for some sort of purpose unbeknown to Talon.

And whose footprint led the pack? Efi Oladele. A name that shone brilliantly in the eyes of many; a prodigy among prodigies. Her work in the likes of robotics and artificial intelligence was without peer.

She was someone to be wary of. Their intel didn’t warrant assassination (yet), but they did warrant investigation. And Nguyen was the one proposed for the job.

So here he was.

Nguyen managed a smile, albeit small, as she laughed.

“All good,” he replied, tone calm and even. “I said: you’re Efi Oladele, correct? I recall your interview with Atlas News.”
