this is my last post on the subject, bc i apparently didn’t get my point across in my last one. there is something so inherently wrong about a relationship between a 32 year old man and a 19 year old girl, especially when you take into account korean society; a society in which seniority is so important. seniors are so much more powerful than juniors, especially juniors who are trying to make it big in an industry as cutthroat and brutal as the kpop industry. trainees are literally told they just have to deal with whatever their seniors do/say, otherwise their whole career is in jeopardy.
two female idols (jessica from snsd and sulli) both spoke publicly about heechul’s predatory behaviour around them when they were minors. here’s the link to a translation of this korean news article. jessica said “heechul was arrogant and cold, he kept reminding me he was older, he kept making me feel uncomfortable.” sulli said “he was weird, he bothered me countless times. i was 12 years old, he made me cry a lot.” not to mention it was literally proven he leaned into his gay rumours and continued to spread them so he could get closer to female idols and give them a false sense of security like that is so fucked up.
there’s a huge power imbalance in momo and heechul’s relationship and idk what to tell you if you can’t see that. she was a barely legal teenager, moving to a foreign country without her family. you can argue with me that she had friends in twice, but twice were also trainees with the “let seniors do whatever they want, you have to just deal with it” mindset. how could they have helped her?
for this man in his 30s to constantly insert himself in momo’s life when she was a teenager, for him to have done the same thing to other idols who were minors at the time, for him to flirt with her on television when he’s sixteen years older… that is not a behaviour you should be encouraging or supporting. he literally groomed her since they met and until he finally got what he wanted and got her to date him when she was 21. hell, even jyp talked about how uncomfortable he was about the “rumours” of them dating earlier this year, and we now find out it was true all along.
please just take a moment and think about how freaky and gross and predatory his actions are before you sprout your bullshit about age is just a number when 90% of yall never listened to a single suju song in your life and this man could literally be your father.
