To the little boy from Madeira,
It was not a choice to fall for you. I was destined to. From watching you score nerve wracking goals back when I was 7 years old while having no idea about football, to watching you play your last match in your Portugal kit, you inspired me and millions of others. Yes, there were times when some of your verdicts, some of your actions, were not justifiable. There were times when people questioned me why I chose you as my idol, my favourite. And I always had one answer, "He is what I want to be". Yes. I want to be as confident as you, as dedicated as you, reach the peak of humanity you reached.
It broke me into pieces when I saw the matches, when I saw, even your own people didn't value you the way they should. And it must have hurt you too. I didn't cry because you didn't win the world cup ; I cried because you deserved a happier ending. But you know what they say ? It's not an ending if it's not happy. We might not see you again in this competition amongst countries, but I hope you'll reach even greater heights in your life, accomplishments so better you'll forget the pain of this trophy. And as for people hating you ? They are simply scared of the monster of football. The unpredictable one. The one who fought against death.
So yes, thank you for introducing me to football. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for teaching me that hard work definitely pays back. Thank you for making this sport so beautiful for so many people around the world. Thank you Cris.
From,
A girl with dreams as high as yours (Ayushi)
