PRECIIOUSLY.
@insurrectsâ.
Sheâs a vampire, not a DEMON â- not that most in Thedas will admit to the difference. Itâs reason enough that Caroline keeps to herself, && does not take kindly to a  ( stranger )  approaching in the half-dark. Still, sheâs not going to TEAR his throat out unless he tries anything nasty.
â Whatever youâre LOOKING for, you wonât find it here. â
ââHAVING BECOME THE BANE OF multiple groupsâ existence, it only made ââsense for the apostate to live as a vagrant, of sorts. constantly moving, never ââin one place for too long ---- constantly fighting the bloodthirsty templars that ââscoured every nook and cranny of the hinterlands in an attempt to find him. it ââis only by chance that he comes across her, having run from one such battle ââ--- heâs tired, heâs slightly injured, but, it seems, he cannot rest. not yet.
ââwarily ( read: staff in hand ), he approaches her, but he does not attack.  there ââis no threat; no point. he wouldnât have any more innocent blood shed.
âââ Â âââ iâd have to disagree. i was looking for shelter, after all, and that aban- ââ doned hut over there seems to be just that. â
you cannot treat a wound without knowing how deep it goes. you cannot heal pain by hiding it. you must accept. accept the blood to make things better.
HAWKE.
Of course it isnât, Hawke knows that, but he cannot deny the occasional doubt which stems from Andersâ words. Pushing where Hawke was always pulling, trying to create distance where there should be none. Or was it simply that the rogue was being selfish and unreasonable? Blind to the feelings of others. He stifles these notions quick enough, refusing to believe them until Andersâ chooses to shed any cowardice and speak honestly with him on these maters. Until there is a blatant âI do not want you around,â Hawke will persist, the greedy man that he was. Taking what he pleased, though in this case it was the company that he fancied and little more.
The smile is met with narrowed eyes, suspicion regarding the concern, but he knows itâs genuine. Anders wouldnât care to repeat it so often if it werenât, his voice caked with tired cracks from the strain of worry. Itâs endearing, albeit annoying, though it gives Hawke and excuse for more of the apostateâs attention and that is something he will very rarely turn away.
âYou make it easy too, Iâd be committing a crime if I didnât take advantage of it.â Hawke rocks back on his heels, posture loose and relaxed. He tries not to think of the words and their implications, opting for selective hearing that focuses on the latter bit ( something in his chests tightens and flutters and itâs things like that which wipe away doubt from his mind ).
âAnd risk putting myself in danger when youâre not around? For all your fretting Iâm surprise youâre not more insistent on spending everyone minute with me. What if I fall over and skin my knee, who will be there to kiss it better?â The corners of his eyes crinkle with his teasing. âBut â if thatâs really what you want, to be rid of me, then I suppose I have no choice but to take my leave. Fair warning I wonât be going home, Iâm certain someone else will find my company to par and not see fit to shoo me off.â Heâs only being honest, though sleep would be welcome Hawke doesnât foresee it in his future. No point in chasing something that will only allude ( an attitude not shared with his pursuit of the apostate ).
âââ  well, all my fretting aside, youâre a grown man, and iâm more than aware of ââ that. you donât need me to hold your hand crossing the streets ââ  or to kiss ââ your knee when you scrape it.  just to patch you up after itâs happened, and to ââ lecture you for it later. â ( he almost laughs. almost. )   â iâm hoping youâll le- ââ arn your lesson, one of these days. either that, or youâll grow so tired of hear- ââ ing me say âi told you soâ that youâll stop being reckless altogether. â
ââBUT DEEP DOWN, HE KNOWS that neither scenario is plausible; not really. âânot in this universe, and not concerning the man that stood before him. garrett ââhawke was a force all on his own â-   proud and strong, but terribly reckless, ââsometimes to the point of what would otherwise be death, were it not for ande- âârs, and his timely interventions.  in truth, he would like to see the man behave ââa bit more carefully, with more regard for his life,  and nothing more than that. ââbut, time and time again, hawke had proved that such was not in his nature â ââthus, he would continue to stumble through the door of the clinic,  battered and ââbruised and terribly bloody, and anders would continue to tend to him because ââit was his duty ( one that was not sworn aloud, but internally ) to keep the other ââalive and well. or as close to âwellâ as he could manage, circumstances consi- ââdered. in a sense, it allowed him the guarantee that he would see hawke on any ââgiven day, and would continue to see him for as long as they remained here.
ââperhaps that was why he didnât do as hawke so sarcastically suggested,   and ââ'ward off the dangerâ, in a sense. perhaps he refrains subconsciously,  to fulfill his ââown selfish needs. if that was the case, it made him sick.   but for the moment, ââit was neither here nor there.Â
ââhawke says heâll leave, as requested. Â Â a lump begins to form in andersâ throat.
âââ ⊠my intention wasnât to shoo you away, hawke ââ didnât i say that before? ââ you might not think so now, but i do enjoy your company; very much so. if i we- ââ re a more selfish man, i mightâve asked you to stay a while longer   ⊠or tried ââ to claim more of your attention. â ( would that he could. )   â iâm not, though â ââ and itâd be wrong of me to start acting that way now, just because âŠÂ â  ( becau- ââ se heâs brought it up, because itâs all he can think about, and so much more. he ââ trails off, shakes his head, perhaps in an attempt to shake away the thoughts fr- ââ om his mind. ) â ⊠never mind that. wherever you do end up going for the night ââ ââ at the very least, promise me youâll try to stay out of trouble. alright? â

roasting me is ineffective because you canât tell me worse things than i already think of my self already
HAWKE.
She knows she should be working harder at avoiding getting hurt; as a mage, itâs    certainly always going to be easier to stay further away from their enemy. That was    where the problem was, thoughâ Not everyone stayed further away from her. Getting    a broken rib or worse was expected, at this point, and coming away from a fight with    anything less than that was nothing short of a miracle. As Andersâ hands move away,    the woman gives a slow breath, tilting her head towards the other apostate.
âThank you, Anders. Iâll do my bestâ But you know how things       are, these days. Everyone wants to try their hands at taking me       down.â
She gives him a wry smile as she pulls her tunic down over the ugly bruise spreading    across her side. The aforementioned broken rib is no longer a problem, though, and the    ability to breathe without hurting too badly is certainly an improvement. Hawke looks    towards her companion and tips her chin up. Itâs later in the evening. More people will    be trickling towards Darktown to sleep, very soon.
âI should learn a little bit more healing magic, hm? You might        get more sleep that way.â
ââYES, HE KNOWS ALL TOO WELL the situation in kirkwall, and the sorts of ââenemies that marian had made since returning from ( what those who had not ââwitnessed its events firsthand thought to be ) a successful deep-roads expedi- ââtion. they envied her for her riches, the manner in which sheâd clawed her way ââout of lowtown and into an upper-class mansion,  the way she could now step ââout onto her balcony at whim and look down at those that would have endeavo- ââred to keep her down, had the situation been different. but it was more than just ââthat. setting aside the fact that she herself was a mage ( a fact that many, esp- ââecially those among the ranks of the templars, abhorred ),  the company sheâd ââelected to keep was thought to be questionable, at best. a ragtag group of fugiti- ââves, apostates, pirates, and everything in-between. anders knows that he must ââcontribute to some of the danger she faces on a daily basis, and he knows that ââhe does so in no small way. guilt gnaws at him as a result, but he forces it do- ââwn. the last time heâd voiced it, he was told he was being âsillyâ,  or something ââto that effect --- that hawke would be in perpetual peril regardless of whether or âânot theyâd met. ( and perhaps that was true, but anders figures it would be subs- ââtantially less. maybe it was just him that believed so. )
âââ -------- ... or you might finally be able to have your injuries tended to without ââ fear of being lectured. â ( he chuckles, reaching for a rag to wipe his hands on ) ââ â donât worry about me, hawke. this clinic is my life, after all; a bit of sleep lost ââ to caring for wounds like yours is hardly missed.   if i wasnât around when you ââ needed me most, then ----- well, what good would my âhealing prowessâ be? â
