Digivices in Cyber Sleuth take up a different role entirely from the series. They were created and popularized by Kamishiro Enterprises to act as a supplement digital device (literally “digivice”) to their new version of ‘web surfing’ in the sense it has become virtual reality, immersing the senses into another state of reality.
Here, they take up various appearances: cellphone (Nokia), goggles (MC & Yuuko), glasses, and, if you’re really good at tech, it can be integrated into your clothing (looking at you, Arata). They act like smart glasses and are wearable computers (with the exception of their cellphone versions), but the ‘computer’ portion is/can be projected before them. It’s difficult for others to look at unless they’re directly behind the user. They appear as blank blue screens with text dripping down the screen–somewhat like the matrix–to others.
It is equipped with the basic apps for example:
Basic Phone App — equipped with video messaging.
DigiLine — a popular messaging service based on Line.
Digibank — Hackers are able to store a number of digimon. The space is equal to the ability of the hacker and digimon combination as well as memory chips.
Digimon Farm — Unique to only Aiba.
Considering EDEN is a relatively new feature, many companies (mainly traditionalists) still use the old style of internet and business management. However, it has become increasingly popular for malls and other businesses (especially those with ties to the government) to use EDEN as their main method of conducting businesses. As such, many government officials use EDEN for work. Companies who are able to move their company to EDEN are seen as prestigious.
Analog controls is what people refer to the old style of hacking (read: using a keyboard without relying on their digimon to activate particular stacks, etc.). A keyboard does ‘pop out’ when using a digivice, but it tends to be little used. The full immersion given by a digivice tends to overtake the user into tricking their senses to the point there have been some consumers unable to tell the difference. Of these users, there have been black market companies tricking users into trapping themselves in EDEN while taking their bodies to be shipped elsewhere. Users who are trapped in EDEN fall under what is known as “EDEN Syndrome.”
Accessing EDEN is not without limitations. A user cannot access EDEN without utilizing a station. In their world, EDEN is pretty much akin to today’s Wi-Fi. There’s some that you need to pay for as well, and those that allow users to use their wifi as long as they have their info from their internet company. They have personal apps that can be used without WiFi, such as the DigiLine (their messaging service) and usual phone option. It does have a display to show the other’s face on the other side–sorta like skype or facetime. I have no idea where the camera would be though …. what if it was from security …
