You know what is so boring to me? When the yanderes have no actual reason for being yanderes. Or the reason is so flimsy.
Like, no I don’t think it’s believable when Bruce Wayne suddenly spots the reader and poof, he’s already beginning to obsess over them.
I think people would have a lot more fun if they gave a basis of reasoning behind the yanderes obsession.
Maybe that’s the only way they learned how to love someone. Or maybe their darling resembles someone they loved but then died. Or maybe it’s not about the darling themselves but about what they represent.
Obsession is an irrational thing but the reasons behind it are less so— much like fear.
And it can be about the darling themselves but even then… there’s a reason behind the obsession. If it’s a stalker yandere who doesn’t actually interact their darling then it’s about what they mean.
When they’re obsessed with the darling rather than something outside of the object of their affections, there’s already some sort of relationship already there. Co-workers, casual friends, best friends, lovers, exes, parents, siblings, etc.
They find something in their darling that they believe is worth caging.
Something worth possessing.
Give me a Bruce who is obsessed with someone because they look like his dead parents. A Bruce obsessed with the idea of ‘redeeming’ a certain person who clearly shows capability to be ‘redeemed’ to his standards but maybe doesn’t want to be redeemed by him. A Bruce who is obsessed with the idea of having a younger sibling.
A Jason who is a little too attached to the nice older lady in Crime Alley who’s trying to raise a kid all by herself and the kid who reminds him so much of himself before he fucking died. A family of two that represents the life he could’ve lead who he can’t help but yearn to be a part of.
A Damian Wayne who doesn’t know how to love ‘normally’ so when he gets a crush on one of the people who volunteers at the same animal shelter as him, it’s bad. His parents already love hard by themselves. He’s their kid and he loves harder.
A Tim Drake who can’t help but constantly slip trackers every so often into the clothes of his younger sibling because they’re the last bit of his biological family that he has anymore. A Tim Drake who always watches and always dissects because he’s so terrified of what would happen to them if he didn’t.
A Dick Grayson who found out he has a kid out there and won’t let them go even if they were born from something horrible. A Dick Grayson who denies all of their kid’s resemblance to their bio mom and calls them a carbon copy of him or one of his parents even if they really aren’t. A Dick Grayson who is constantly trying to make up for something that was not his fault. (A Dick Grayson who is never letting his kid out of his sight after he finds out it happened to them too.)
A Cassandra Cain who, almost as though instinctively, snatches up the child with the sword as they fight less like a child and more like a weapon. (A tool to be used. A child soldier.) She can’t let anyone else go through what she did- she can’t let their hands go dirty.
